Book Blogger Appreciation Week will be held September 13th-17th.  In the words of the site itself, “Book Blogger Appreciation was started by Amy Riley of My Friend Amy in an effort to recognize the hard work and contribution of book bloggers to the promotion and preservation of a literate culture actively engaged in discussing books, authors, and a lifestyle of reading. The first Book Blogger Appreciation was observed in the fall of 2008 and occurs every September. The week spotlights and celebrates the work of active book bloggers through guest posts, awards, giveaways, and community activities.”

In addition to the posting topics, guest posts, giveaways during the week, awards are also one aspect of the week and this year they are modeled after other award systems (like the Oscars for example).  This year, bloggers submit their blog into the category that they feel best describes their blog and provide five links to posts that best represent that category.

Eclectic book blog seemed the most natural fit.  As far as submitting five links, I found this to be really difficult.  My reading is so varied that submitting just five links completely cuts out a complete genre or age range.  Do I cut out my representation of middle grade fiction, young adult fiction, memoirs or what?  But in the end, I remembered I’m still 60 book reviews behind.  Sheesh. Talk about lots of reading this year but not so much blogging.

I have enjoyed each Book Blogger Appreciation Week simply for the opportunity to see just how many book bloggers there are. The week is one is one big party.  And the party just gets bigger and bigger every year.  If you are not a book blogger but enjoy discovering new books, then you should tune in as well to discover potentially new favorites.
