48 Hour Book Challenge – 24 Hours In, 24 Hours to Go
I’m halfway there! For the past 24 hours, I’ve been participating in the 48 Hour Book Challenge hosted by Pam at MotherReader. Oh, how I needed this. I haven’t read anything for such a long time that it was fantastic to read some great books. So far, I have concentrated all my efforts on actually reading. In 24 hours, I read for 11 hours and did a bit of blog hopping for 30 minutes (I know pathetic – the blog hopping, not the reading). I used a timer for the first time to see what my actually reading time was only to discover that I’m a MUCH slower reader than I always assumed I was.
So far I have finished four books. Two of them middle grade fiction, the other two young adult. My favorites are easily Split by Swati Avasthi and Three Rivers Rising by Jame Richards. Split is about what happens after leaving domestic abuse, in this case a sixteen-year-old boy who’s is kicked out by his abusive father. Three Rivers Rising is a free verse, historical fiction novel about the 1889 Johnstown flood. I really liked this one. I bought both of these books at Books of Wonder when I was in New York last week and got them both signed by the authors.
I also read Boom by Mark Haddon. Wow, boys will love this book. Can’t wait to read this with my boys when they get older. Aliens, space-travel and talking spiders! I finished Trackers by Patrick Carman. After really liking his Skeleton Creek, I really wanted to love this book as well. Unfortunately, it wasn’t my cup of tea. But I think that teens will like it. Especially, computer savvy boys.
I also read another hundred pages in Day for Night but ultimately I think I may be abandoning it. Not enjoying it at all but I may (or may not) try to finish it. It’s a book club book so I’d like to at least know the book all ties together.
My next update here will be at the end of the 48 hours which for me will by 6:00 pm MST tomorrow. I’m also updating in real time on my Twitter timeline using the #48hbc hashtag. All the details for the challenge can be found on the 48 Hour Book Challenge rules post. I still hope to write at least 10 book reviews. I can see you laughing now!
Hey you! Yes. You! I've noticed that you've stopped by to visit a few times! But I don't know who you are. Why don't you take a moment and introduce yourself. Don't be scared. I try not to bite. I know you're a lurker but I'd love to hear your thoughts about what's been bringing you here. And if you haven't done so already, don't forget to never miss a post by subscribing to my feed or receiving updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

11 hours in the first 24 is great. I barely made it to 9.
on June 5th, 2010 at 7:07 pmYou are doing fantastic! I’m struggling this second day, but still holding on.
on June 5th, 2010 at 7:41 pmI think I have you beat on the slower reader. I’m adding Three Rivers Rising to my list. I want to say I saw a movie on it, but I could be wrong. I’m getting a bit into historical fiction.
on June 5th, 2010 at 10:01 pmI heard about the readathon very late on Friday – not enough notice for me to change my weekend plans. Count me in next time!
When I do – I don’t think I’ll do as well as you — I am a voracious reader but cannot imagine reading for half the day!
on June 6th, 2010 at 4:34 amNatasha you will be my hero if you can write ten book reviews, since I have to write twice as many to catch up.
on June 6th, 2010 at 5:20 amI’m only halfway done with Day for Night. I’m enjoying it but not loving it.
