First Book Charity Auction – Bid on Incredible Prize Packages (And For My Stephenie Meyer Fan Readers – A SIGNED Copy of The Host)

Book Blogger Con 2010I am on the organizing committee for the upcoming Book Blogger Convention which will be held in New York City on May 28th.  We wanted to do something more than just hold a conference, we also wanted to give back.  As a result, we have gathered donations from many generous bloggers, authors, and publishers for an auction which will benefit First Book, an organization that puts books into the hands of children.

To blatantly re-post what Trish from Hey Lady! Whatcha Readin’? previously posted about First Book:

Mission: First Book provides new books to children in need addressing one of the most important factors affecting literacy – access to books.

Inspiration: Kyle Zimmer, a corporate lawyer by day, tutored children at an inner-city soup kitchen by night. She discovered that the children she tutored had no books to read. That year, Kyle left her day job, and she and two friends founded First Book to provide new books and resources to the children who needed them the most. They delivered 12,000 books to local communities in the Washington DC area the first year.

Motivation: Kyle discovered that fully 80% of preschool and after-school programs serving low-income populations have no age-appropriate books for the children they serve. Millions of children spend thousands of hours every week in programs and schools that are starving for resources necessary to improve educational quality.

Empowerment: By providing new books to children in preschools and after-school programs, mentoring and tutoring programs, shelters and day care centers and beyond, First Book provides resources to empower teachers and administrators. With access to high-quality books, educational materials and more, these caring leaders can better teach, plan curriculum and impart a love of learning, elevating the quality of the programs and opportunities available to children in need.

Achievement: Now, nearly 20 years later, First Book has delivered more than 65 million books to programs serving children in need across the United States and Canada. Learn more about the honors and awards received by First Book.

There are some incredible prize packages put together for this auction including author lunches, signed books, gift cards, and even a Kindle.

the_host.jpgI’m particularly eager to see the item that I donated do well in the auction.  I know many of my blog readers are HUGE Stephenie Meyer fans.  You will be excited to see that you can bid on a SIGNED hardcover copy of The Host (my book review and post about when I got the book signed).  I’ve been saving this copy of the book for a good cause ever since I met Stephenie Meyer and had her sign the book when it was released.  Last time I checked, bids were up to $100.  Remember it’s all for charity.  You do NOT need to be a book blogger or even attending the Book Blogger Convention to bid (with a few exceptions to some items).

PLEASE, let’s show just how generous we can be for a good cause.

Check out all the items and bid now!
