Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-a-Thon Update #3

readathoon

I’m reading today in Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-Thon!

I finished Born on a Blue Day which has been on my shelf FOREVER.  I wanted to read it as April is Autism Awareness Month.  Glad I read this one earlier in the day as it wasn’t one that tends to be a fast read.  The Surrender Tree is a free verse novel and it was excellent.  Frankie Pickle was a breather book and I was able to read it in mere minutes.  I enjoyed going back into my childhood with Ramona Quimby, Age 8 by Beverly Clearly.  While I enjoyed the book, I also realized that I have been tainted by my love for Clementine and as I kept comparing the two, Clementine won out.  I’m just a chapter into Mare’s War by Tanita Davis.  I’ll likely read a breather book while reading that one as well.

We planned to take the kids to the park so they could play while we kept our eyes on them and read at the same time.  Yeah . . . that didn’t work out.  It was so cold and windy that I didn’t last long at all.

Lunch was the best sandwich I have ever made.  Seriously.  And veggies with homemade spinach dip.

My little boy insisted that I take a picture of his veggies when he saw me snapping pictures of my plate.

Taylor’s feeding the kids right now.  Nothing exciting.  Just leftovers.  But when the kids go to bed in a couple of hours, we plan on getting the good stuff out!

  5. It looks like you’re having fun! I love Ramona Quimby. But I love Clementine too. I do. I don’t know that I could choose between the two!

Have you read any other Margarita Engle books? I have really enjoyed some of hers! And since it sounds like you love verse novels, are you familiar with Sonya Sones?

  7. In a Story Book

At night when sunshine goes away,
And it’s too dark for me to play,
I like to come inside, and look
For new friends in a story book.

  8. Wow, you are doing great and have read a lot of books! I know how it is having kids around. I have a 23 month old and an 8 year old and of course the 8 year old had dance today and I promised to take her to the mall, and the 23 month old has a runny nose and is crabby, so I am happy to be on my 3rd book. Just here to cheer you on!

  9. Man that sandwich looks good! I’m feeling like some tater tots, but I’m too lazy to get up at this point. I wish you hours of pep after the kids go to bed!

  10. A story is a special thing
The ones that I have read
They do not stay inside the books
    They stay inside my head.

Enjoy the rest of the read-a-thon. You’re doing great!

    head out on the stoop

  18. I love all the pictures you always share! I had fun looking through your updates, because you gave me “illustrations” of a sort. :) It looked so fun.

  19. Thank you Taylor for the quick synopsis of “Unwind.” I would never have looked into it by the title alone. I have it on hold at the library. I think it will be be very interesting. A dystopian society like “The Hunger Games,” but with a tie to abortion…so interesting!
