Book Bloggers/Online Reviewers on Write On! Roundtable Blog Talk Radio Archived Recording
Thank you to those who listened to the Blog Talk Radio, hosted by Write On! about book bloggers and online reviewers with myself, Ron Hogan and Yen Cheong as guests. For those who were unable to listen live, here is the archive of that show:
I do ask that you ignore the one part where I rambled incoherently and couldn’t think what my line of thought was. I kept giving my two-year-old sucker after sucker in an attempt to keep him quiet during the show. After four suckers, I think he died and went to heaven.
Many of the topics discussed included:
- What constitutes a quality book review
- Should book reviews be paid for? (and thoughts on FTC ruling about product reviews and it’s affect on the reviewing industry
- How important are reviews?
- What is the impact on book sales and credibility of interviews by Oprah, NPR, NY Times, Publisher’s Weekly etc.
- Thoughts on Kirkus and the future of book review sites/magazines/outlets
- What effect has blogging had on book reviews and their value?
- What about social media and it’s influence?
- Thoughts on e-formatted books as review copies?
- How can authors and publisher’s best spend their marketing dollars?
- Has anybody reviewed a vook.
- How important is the interviewer when interviewing an author?
- What does a publisher look for in book blogs?
- Effectiveness of book blog tours.
- How should authors and publishers approach bloggers?
- Do you consider the mass pitch approach for a book spam?
- How do authors balance their time on social media, writing, & life?
- How do you increase your “review footprint” and boost your credibility as a reviewer and media outlet for books?

“Remember like stilettos, reading never goes out of style.”
Seems to me that you didn’t get a lot of questions. It’s almost like they preferred talking to the publisher rep. and the book reviewer who gets paid. Interesting discussion otherwise.
