Racking Up the Library Fines
What we told ourselves we would spend on library fines for 2010: $0
What we I have already spent on library fines for 2010: $8
Hey you! Yes. You! I've noticed that you've stopped by to visit a few times! But I don't know who you are. Why don't you take a moment and introduce yourself. Don't be scared. I try not to bite. I know you're a lurker but I'd love to hear your thoughts about what's been bringing you here. And if you haven't done so already, don't forget to never miss a post by subscribing to my feed or receiving updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

LOL. You sound like me. I don’t even have an excuse – my library lets you renew books on their website. You get books for 3 weeks at the outset, then you can renew up to 5 times. See what I mean? No excuse!
on January 22nd, 2010 at 7:40 amI was thinking the $8 was not so bad for the year, and then I remembered that we aren’t even a month in yet! SO bad.
on January 22nd, 2010 at 7:56 amHey, it’s just your way of supporting the library!
on January 22nd, 2010 at 8:08 amLOL! only $8? I went and cleared up everyone’s late fees as one of their Happy New Year presents and spent close to $80 for the four of us. Gwen was the best-behaved with only 68 cents. I was, of course, the worst, and have blocked the total out (probably in the $40 range) and Sam was second worse with $32. Mags had about $8 on hers.
And right after I paid, they started work on remodeling. Coincidence?
on January 22nd, 2010 at 8:47 am$8 isn’t too bad. Keep the pace slow…besides, I’m sure the library appreciates your monetary contributions.
on January 22nd, 2010 at 10:37 amOops?
on January 22nd, 2010 at 10:56 amSusan – I’d love to renew 5 times! We can renew three. I don’t have any excuses either.
Nicole – That’s why it’s bad!! Three weeks in!
Kathy – I gave them well over $100 last year. Was hoping to not have the same trend.
The Kool-Aid Mom – Ha, ha! I’ve definitly had fines in the same range as yours, thus the goal to start off the new year with no fines!
Serena – Oh, they do love me!
Gnoe – I’m not going to make my goal am I?
on January 22nd, 2010 at 11:04 amOh boy. I’m only at 4.50 and that includes me, my two boys and my husband.
I just figured out how to reserve books online – my whole world is new and exciting! I look forward to getting e-mails from the library as much as I look forward to getting e-mails from Random House (almost)!
on January 22nd, 2010 at 3:21 pmI had better get reading! The whole Library fine thing would be new to me since I am that crazy book girl that just got a library card a couple weeks ago. Its true. I have always had so much to read of my own that I didnt use the library.
Now I had better go check when those books are due back…..
on January 22nd, 2010 at 4:58 pmI paid a fortune in fines last year but am determined not to do the same this year (well I say that now LOL). I have no excuse either as we can renew online, I just never remember to do it! Must be more organised will be my new 2010 motto
)
on January 22nd, 2010 at 5:42 pmOh, I feel so much better! My last trip to the library was when I was returning books that were several weeks overdue and did not have the cash with me to pay for the fines immediately. I haven’t been back since, and now I’m almost embarrassed to go back and pay those fines from several years ago! Yikes!
on January 22nd, 2010 at 8:29 pmI’ve done really well with my books since I started with the new library system, just one fine for one book that was one day late, and that was mostly because my husband insisted we’d be back in time to return it – I blame him.
on January 22nd, 2010 at 9:48 pmHaha – I also already have more than a dollar in finces racked up. It’s hard when all the books you request come in at once, especially when some of them are new releases and can only be checked out for a week!
on January 23rd, 2010 at 10:43 amI agree with Kathy. Way to support the library.

on January 24th, 2010 at 8:48 amI am forever getting fines. My new library sports an email program that tells you 3 days before to renew online or bring them back. Hopefully..
on January 24th, 2010 at 12:53 pmI first read this as $8 in fines for 2009 … then I saw you meant this year. 2010. January.
Yikes, and the month’s not yet over!
