Bloggiesta Day 2 – It’s Pinata Time

Bloggiesta: PedroIt’s Day 2 of Bloggiesta (you can still join – check in at the starting line)!  I have been having a fantastic time reading everybody’s posts, checking in on Twitter and been pleased with everybody’s enthusiasm.

It’s not a Bloggiesta with a pinata! And it’s not a pinata without candy – but in this case we’re replacing candy with virtual books! Come take a whack and you may win a book of your choice (or gift certificate for international players) from our awesome sponsors.  How do you take a virtual whack on the virtual pinata?  Just leave me a comment telling me what your favorite part of Bloggiesta is so far or something that you’ve gotten accomplished.  I’ll announce the winner in tomorrow’s post.

Good luck!

Hey you! Yes. You! I've noticed that you've stopped by to visit a few times! But I don't know who you are. Why don't you take a moment and introduce yourself. Don't be scared. I try not to bite. I know you're a lurker but I'd love to hear your thoughts about what's been bringing you here. And if you haven't done so already, don't forget to never miss a post by subscribing to my feed or receiving updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

  1. I love that I set aside a specific length of time to get organized so I don’t stress about not being organized and not doing other things.

I have accomplished a lot. Organizing my upcoming releases page I think I was most happy with so far.

  2. Yay! A pinata! I hope no one gets hurt a la Funniest Home Videos. ;)

I’ve got so much done. The biggest thing for me was setting up my own domain name.

  3. My favorite part by far has been chatting with everyone on Twitter and reading all the great posts. It’s a tad bit distracting, but way fun!

  4. My favorite part has been getting motivation to do some of the side projects that I have been thinking about doing for a while now. So far I have gotten most of my goals done! Ole!!

  5. My best part is devoting so much time on my blog, I come to love it more and more, and the making plans for structured blogging. I like getting organized. Tomorrow will be my mini-challenges day and a bit more “tweeking”

  6. I love using #bloggiesta because seeing everyones progress motivates me to make some progress.

So far, I’m proudest of making my future contests lists, because my favorites was STUFFED. =)

  7. I’m in the process of going through all of my many subscriptions on google reader, purging the ones that haven’t been updated/I don’t read, organizing the rest into more appropriate folders, and trying to start commenting on all the ones I’ve been lurking around for months (including yours)! Definitely would not have gotten taken this one without Bloggiesta to motivate me!

  8. I have to say I think the community of this is great. I love checking out the bloggiesta hasttag on twitter and chatting up other people who are participating.

Also, Kate from The Neverending Shelf has been my chat buddy during this so far which has been great. We keep each other focused (as much as possible at least) and give suggestions and are able to check out each others progress.

  9. My favourite part has been learning all the tips and trick. And I’ve gotten loads done! I’ve organized my feed reader, I’ve written templates, some posts that have been lying around in drafts, organized my tags, taken down my Christmas decorations. It’s great! Thank you so much for hosting this!

  10. I had much fun yesterday — and before that, in compiling my todo list. Today I got a bit frustrated unfortunately, because I couldn’t get to the computer as much as I had hoped. But there’s still some time left today ;)

I especially like the community part of it — all working together on our blogs is so much more fun than doing it on your own — especially with the tips & tricks of the mini-challenges, like how to make backups or gravatars. Cool!

  11. A pinata! So fun! For me, as a newer blogger, I have so loved the mini-challenges, both current and from the previous blogiesta because the wealth of information that is in there is amazing! It’s like a bootcamp for bloggers! Thank you so much for hosting this!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:14 am
  12. I’m liking all the motivation to get stuff done… stuff I’ve been dreading and avoiding. I also like learning how to do new stuff. Oh, and the fun that is Twitter chatting really adds to the whole experirence. And as always, meeting new bloggers is exciting.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:19 am
  13. By the end of the day yesterday I was exhausted but it was a good tired. I felt so good about all the things I accomplished that have been sitting on the back burner for a long time. I’m most proud of my sidebars which are now cleaned up and organized.

Thanks for hosting this productive weekend. I may not have done this without the push. Spending so much time focusing on my blog has given me a new enthusiasm for blogging.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:28 am
  14. I love that over the Christmas break I got to ignore all the things I was going to do, because I knew Bloggiesta would help me accomplish them. And I love all the fun graphics you have :)

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:29 am
  15. My favorite part thus far is the feeling of accomplishment! I actually haven’t gotten a huge amount done, but the few things I have been able to strike off my list have me feeling a lot better.

Whenever I hear of pinatas, I always think of those funny and painful looking videos that are almost always on America’s Funniest Home Videos. =D

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:35 am
  16. I think that my favorite part has been discovering new blogs and getting so many good ideas that I want to incorporate on my blog. So many things that I’ve never even considered, but now wonder how I lived without! *L*

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:38 am
  17. My favorite part – learning about meta tags and all the other stuff. I’ve changed my header and color coordinated the blog to match. I updated the posts in my linkbar and now working on feed reader and side bar.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:40 am
  18. I have gotten so much accomplished already!

Probably the most important thing I did during Bloggiesta was back up my work. When I have tech trouble, I will be thanking you!!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:42 am
  19. The thing I’m most excited about is finding and reading new blogs. Thank you so much for holding the 2nd annual Bloggiesta.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:53 am
  20. My favorite part so far has been being able to sit down for an extended period of time and get a bunch of things crossed off my blog to do list. It’s nice to be able to give myself permission to spend a lot of time on this project.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 12:07 pm
  21. After linking the suggestions on a few of my older posts to either amazon or my reviews, I know that that’s 3 (or was it 4?) fewer that I eventually have to do. It takes a really long time! :)

    on January 9th, 2010 at 12:23 pm
  22. A few favorite things:

    1. I’ve added a ton of books to my TBR pile after (slowly) catching up on my Google Reader. I need to follow less interesting people so I can get through these posts more quickly!

    2. I posted that I was updating my blogging spreadsheets and people want to know about them! Usually, people just mock this point of extreme nerdness on my part…

    on January 9th, 2010 at 1:01 pm
  23. I’m getting done ridiculous amounts of things that I always put off! But I think my favorite part is knowing that there are other people doing exactly what I’m doing with me. Makes blog up-keeping much more pleasurable.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 1:26 pm
  24. Being a new blogger the Bloggiesta has really helped me learn a lot. Words I had no idea what they meant made their way into a conversation with a friend a futire book blogger today! Thanks for all the help and support you give to us new kids on the block.

  25. The best part of Bloggiesta is the community spirit. Hanging out on Twitter where everyone is helping everyone else. It’s fabulous!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 1:41 pm
  26. I love how I come up with a list of things to do, but as I’m going I find more things to do. Normally this would be annoying but since I have the whole weekend to work on things it’s actually quite nice. I am also finding a lot of great book blogs out there that I’m adding to my reader!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 1:42 pm
  27. I love the new-to-me blogs that I’m finding the best! I am also enjoying the challenges as it’s helping me to develop into a better blogger. Those that I don’t finish this weekend, I’ll continue to work on! I’m getting more organized in terms of creating forms to use and cleaning up my google reader. I’m also getting some reading in (finished 2 books yesterday). I am on dial-up so I’m not getting to post as often as I’d like but I’d like everyone to know that I am participating!

  28. Finding out what a nutjob I am when it comes to organization–my organization scheme is as whack-a-doodle as when things weren’t organized!

though more seriously, I like the community spirit involved.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 1:57 pm
  29. My favorite part has been buckling down and doing some of the things I didn’t want to do.

I’ve written 7 reviews, made some badges, and cleaned up about half of my labels so far! yay!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 2:11 pm
  30. My favorite is discovering new blogs I never knew existed. I have also learned some things about blogging that I did not know-eg Grading your blog (Bookish Ruth) and learning new tricks for little improvements that make a difference.

    Thank you for hosting.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 2:19 pm
  31. My favorite part is taking time out of my day to catch up on items that I start to feel overwhelmed about because I didn’t take time before.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 2:23 pm
  32. I’ve loved “meeting” new people and getting tips from other bloggers on how best to organize my blog! So far I’ve been doing a lot of back end work, organizing links in sidebars and adding SEO tools, which isn’t very glamorous work, but it’s important! And I never would have sat down and gotten started without the encouragement of the bloggiesta!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 2:28 pm
  33. Bloggiesta, which I don’t think I’ve even officially signed up for, inspired me to make Reviews by Author and Reviews by Title pages for easy access to reviews.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 2:53 pm
  34. Hi Natasha….

Bloggiesta actually inspired me to get off my bum and start improving my blog. Not too big, but, one huge thing I’ve gotten accomplished…

I just submitted my first book review to bookreview.com, and am hoping to become an amateur reviewer.

Going on Twitter right now and following you. :)

    on January 9th, 2010 at 3:08 pm
  35. My favorite parts of Bloggeista so far is that the mini challenges have helped me make a few small changes to my blog that I love.

I’ve also met some really great bloggers.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 3:38 pm
  36. I love making time to focus on my blog and meeting new bloggers! I’ve really liked the blogging buddy mini challenge.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 3:45 pm
  37. I’ll have to admit, I’ve been a little overwhelmed at the stuff I don’t have on my blog, but I’m slowly but surely getting things organized and caught up. Think I’ll do some of the mini-challenges tomorrow. This has been a lot of fun!!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 3:59 pm
  38. My favorite part so far is finding out about all of the things I don’t have but also being given the tools to add them. I always feel so clever when I’m able to do something new on the computer.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 4:11 pm
  39. I think my favorite part is the enthusiasm of everyone involved. The important thing though has been how much I’ve learned and how much I’ve gotten done BECAUSE of everyone involved:) Wow, I seriously have gotten a lot done!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 4:18 pm
  40. My favourite part so far is seeing what everyone else has accomplished and how excited they are. I also love sharing Bloggiesta with others to get other people to be excited and participate as well. It’s so fun!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 4:22 pm
  41. I’m having a great time. I’ve done all kinds of clean-up on my site. My favorite part has been the motivation from knowing that so many other folks are fixing up their blogs too. Thanks for the inspiration, Bloggiesters! :)

    on January 9th, 2010 at 4:41 pm
  42. I have finally pulled all my interviews together and will post them to one page. As far as I can tell that is the best way to do it with blogger. Now I’m working on doing the same for book reviews. Onward!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 4:41 pm
  43. My fav part so far is the community – I have checked out some new blogs and also got some comments from some bloggers new to me! Its a great way for a new blogger to feel connected. I also finished two minichallenges:

    Comments hosted by Mother Reader
Blog Resolutions hosted by Book Ladys Blog

  44. I haven’t been able to actually do as much blog stuff as I would have liked today, but what I’m enjoying, even when I’m not at the computer but just thinking about it, is the sense of community.

    Thanks Natasha!

  45. I’ve loved having a focus. I feel motivated to get some reviews done. WOO HOO!

  46. I love the whole “Spring Cleaning” feel of it all. I also like when a mini challenge gives me a tutorial on trying code or a technique that I didn’t know anything about before.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 6:04 pm
  47. I’ve been excited with all the work I’ve accomplished and how much better my blog feels. But even more wonderful is all the cheerleaders who leave encouraging comments :-) I’m definitely feeling the love!

Oh, and all the great help everyone’s being with ideas and directions, like Trish wit the gravatar stuff and Meghan on the Google subscription widget. And everyone who helped me set up the twitterfeed.

    Ole! :-D

    on January 9th, 2010 at 6:25 pm
  48. I have been having SO much fun! I had a blast yesterday just playing and formatting. My biggest accomplishment so far has definitely been adding my navigation tabs. I have been so afraid of doing it, but I finally just went for it. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them and feel so proud that I added them through manipulation of the code.

Today, I’ve enjoyed cheering on everyone else. It is so cool to see how excited everyone is about this event and their accomplishments. And I’ve gotten some great ideas from fellow participants!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 6:33 pm
  49. I feel so much more oraganized! I spent most of yesterday behind the scenes and more time today working on what everyone can see, pages, blogroll, categories.
I did one mini-challenge, backing up by blog. I’ll take a look at one more tonight. Thanks for giving me an excuse to spent countless hours on my blog. When I tell my husband it’s bloggiesta time he doesn’t roll his eyes like he would if I had just said I was going to go work on my blog :)

    on January 9th, 2010 at 6:42 pm
  50. I think my favorite part of Bloggiesta is every part but the writing-posts part. I love going to different blogs and getting ideas for my own review policy or finding inspiration on new blogs and old favorites.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 7:15 pm
  51. I love learning something new! So far, I have learned how to back up my blog and I just figured out how to edit a bunch of posts at once! Hooray for Bloggiesta!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 7:22 pm
  52. I love having the motivation to set aside time to work on improving my blogs. I haven’t made that a priority, so it’s nice to get the push I needed to make some improvements and do some of the things I’ve been meaning to do.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 7:33 pm
  53. My favorite part is the mini-challenges. I end up spending more time on those than doing my blog posts. lol

    on January 9th, 2010 at 7:41 pm
  54. So far, I’ve liked the motivation I’ve gotten from people on Twitter. It’s why I joined in the first place. And I’ve managed to get a few tweaks done to make things go more smoothly. Still got a few things to do on my list tomorrow, tho.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 8:33 pm
  55. I feel like I haven’t been able to do much but I have been enjoying getting these reviews done that have been overdue for a long time. Also while it’s incredibly daunting since i have so many older reviews, it’s good to know that there are plenty of things I can do to fix up my blog whenever i’m bored and on the computer!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 10:50 pm
  56. Oh pinata! Let’s see. I am currently going through my bloglines account and clearing out feeds – time consuming but long overdue. I also got to play with Google Docs a bit, and feel more confident with them, and I had lots of fun on Twitter!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 10:54 pm
  57. Thanks for the tweet – I didn’t see this. My day two of bloggiesta has been more scattered than day 1, but my favorite part of the day was when Jason helped me fix my favicon so that it worked on Safari and Chrome as well as Firefox. Yay for the little things!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:05 pm
  58. Like the others, I love learning new stuff. I discovered how to do image maps on an image, so that I can put links on portions of the image. I have yet to make it work on my blog, though, but it was fun learning how. I also love checking out the challenges hosted by the different wonderful blogs. Thanks for a great time, everyone!:)

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:06 pm
  59. I’ll take a swing! I really loved reading the hashtags at twitter, and during my breaks from tweaking my own site, I popped into other folks sites I found through twitter updates. Fun times! Site wise, I am finally happy with my navigation for the site, after playing with the wordpress Blog-in-Blog plugin, and just going OCD in general on things that were bugging me about my site

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:06 pm
  60. Whack! Smack! I made an alphabetical list of Books by Title and Books by Authors page. I feel so professional now. lol I actually accomplished a few things so I’m very happy with my progress so far. Thank you for asking.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:53 pm
  61. I love having the designated time period and the mini challenges. They really get me focused on doing things that have been on my to-do list for ages.

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:54 pm
  62. I’m joining in a little late because of my son’s birthday party, but I am loving the honest feedback I am receiving so far via Twitter. I cannot tell you how much that is appreciated!!

I’m reserving tomorrow for my main participation, so here’s hoping I get a lot more done!! Thanks for hosting a much needed event!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:55 pm
  63. I am LOVING the tabs on my blog! So glad Bloggiesta allowed me the chance to finally get around to putting them in, instead of procrastinating :-)

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:58 pm
  64. What I really love about Bloggiesta are all the posts that explain how to do things and giving advice on how to make a better blog. I have bookmarked several of them so I can look back on them later. I have a feeling I won’t be finishing my goals, but I feel like I am accomplishing a theme for my blog and gaining better skills with my reviews!

    Thanks for hosting this!

    on January 9th, 2010 at 11:58 pm
  65. I’m not sure if I’m too late for this, but I am just so relieved to have gotten my labels and indexes in shape. It’s an awesome feeling. And I’ve liked being to help others in my own little way.

    on January 10th, 2010 at 7:35 am
  66. Its wonderful about the explanations and how one does things especially to those who are technologically illiterate like me! Thanks a lot.

    on January 10th, 2010 at 8:11 am
  67. I’m loving Bloggiesta! I love using twitter with it because it really boosts morale and if you have a question or anything, you know there are other bloggers out there who might be working on the same thing. It’s a real motivator.

    on January 10th, 2010 at 8:20 am
  68. Swing! oh darn I missed the pinata.

A little late for my comment.

Yesterday I decided not to use twitter..it was very boring. Twitter is a wonderful tool for the Bloggiesta – so I am thinking that is my favorite bit.

I was also thinking… is it possible to save all the tweets for referencing interesting info and links?…it may be totally overwhelming but potentially useful for everyone who cannot be on twitter all the time or at all.

Thanks Natasha this has been an enlightening, fun, and useful feature!

    on January 10th, 2010 at 9:45 am
  69. I love the encouragement from the other participants, but also how flexible it is regarding how much time to spend and what things to work on. A great nudge to get some things done that have been on the To Do List for far too long. Thanks, Natasha.

My main accomplishment so far this weekend has been cleaning up my Google Reader. It was a chaotic mess before, the folders not helpful etc. etc. It took FOREVER but it’s so organized now, yay!

    on January 10th, 2010 at 9:49 am
  70. I really take the Bloggiesta as a time to finally sit down and do all things that I want to do on my blog but never get too. Both times now (this Bloggiesta and the first one as well) I have come through with a better looking and functioning blog. This event has really made my blogging improve and I am always thrilled to learn something new.

(One exciting Bloggiesta moment I just had is as I scrolled down these comments I see a person from my book club has joined in on the Bloggiesta and I did not know that! Comment #24. Wait until Tuesdays Book Club meeting! I am excited to see what she has done!
