Where’s My Mummy by Carolyn Crimi, Illustrated by John Manders
I am SO buying Where’s My Mummy by Carolyn Crimi and illustrated by John Manders. I’m going to be really sad to see it returned to the library because my boys and I have been reading this one every day for two weeks. My little two-year-old has some of the lines memorized and he’s so ADORABLE when he reads it. It’s one of the books that they will automatically pick out first to read out of the stack of Halloween picture books we have at the moment.
Little Baby Mummy doesn’t want to go to sleep, so he plays a game of hide-and-shriek with his Big Mamma Mummy. But Little Baby Mummy gets scared and can’t find Big Mamma Mummy. There are a lot of scary noises in the night and Little Baby Mummy is apprehensive about what he may discover. But when he realizes it just your run of the mill (scary to us but not scary to him) Halloween characters, he’s not scared until it’s a little thing that makes him wish he was back home with his Big Mamma Mummy and being tucked in bed.
The illustrations are wonderful! They are cute and they are funny. They make my boys laugh. And with it’s fun, lyrical text and page turning adventure, it’s as much fun to read for the parent as it is for the child listening to it. This one is going down as a classic Halloween picture book that I HAVE to own. Definitely seek this one out and share it with the children in your life this Halloween week.

on October 26th, 2009 at 4:39 pmWe have this one at home and love it! We purchased ours through Scholastic’s school program in paperback, and it’s already showing signs of extreme wear.
Great for little ones and also good for slightly older siblings who are just starting to read by themselves.
