The Nobel Prize judges are really choosing writers who are scarcely known outside their countries. Even in Italian her books are not translated, apart from one which is available on the internet and a collection of short stories which is unfortunately out of print. I'll bet if they picked an author from the US we'd have heard of him/her. :D If my German weren't quickly fading into nonexistent, I'd pick up some of her German stuff.
