In Which I Finally Blog About the Whole Blogging Thing

The purpose of my book blog isn’t to talk about blogging.  It’s to talk about books.  So while I participate in a lot of online conversations about blogging via Twitter, Ning, or other people’s blog posts, you’ll very rarely see me using this space to talk about the actual process of blogging.

Except for today.

I couldn’t help myself.  A lot of people have asked me how in the world do I blog with two small children (my oldest turns four today and my other is two).  I use a small notebook to keep track of all of my notes.  I’ve pasted in a yearly calender to keep track of important dates.  Let me show you what September and October currently look like:

September

October

That folks is what blogging is like in this house.

P.S.  Maybe not the post you were expecting, but highly amusing to this mama.

Hey you! Yes. You! I've noticed that you've stopped by to visit a few times! But I don't know who you are. Why don't you take a moment and introduce yourself. Don't be scared. I try not to bite. I know you're a lurker but I'd love to hear your thoughts about what's been bringing you here. And if you haven't done so already, don't forget to never miss a post by subscribing to my feed or receiving updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

  5. This is hilarious! I have a very similar calendar at my house…and then some of that writing was transferred to the walls…and then one little girl got into trouble :)

  10. Ah – life with boys. Isn’t it grand and such an adventure.

  11. I so need a blog calendar. I do have a (short) list of essay ideas. Blogging and working full-time and exercising so as to avoid taking up more physical space equals major challenge.

  12. That looks about right. :)

  16. Hilarious, Natasha. Since I have no idea when/how I do my blogging, I definitely have no idea when you do yours. But somehow we do. And it’s worth it. :)

  17. Oh that is priceless. I love it. You are quite coordinated you know. :)

  19. I have no kids and still have a hard time with time management. My calendar is a little bit neater though. ;-P

    on September 23rd, 2009 at 11:33 am
  20. My calendar’s lost… again. But that’s almost exactly what the letter from the author that came in my latest review copy looks like! (Except Mister had a red pencil rather than a pen… mostly anyway.)

My notebook where I keep track of what I read has lots of pages like that from when Boo was younger too!

Happy birthday to your oldest! I thought he was older than that, though… He’s a cutie.

    on September 23rd, 2009 at 11:33 am
  21. Thanks for the laugh. And thanks for your taking time to blog..this one and all others.

  22. I’m waiting for the punchline as that calendar looks exactly like mine! Heehee.

  23. Very amusing. :-D Somehow, we make it all fit into 24 hours… or not.

    on September 23rd, 2009 at 12:32 pm
  24. You know I can really relate. I have a few pages in my notebook I keep with me while reading that look like that. My 4-year-old likes it when he finds a pen and some paper.

  25. Love the “short” hand!!!!

  28. Fantastic! :)

    on September 23rd, 2009 at 2:04 pm
  29. You make me smile, Natasha! If I had a calendar I’ll bet it would look similar because my 5-yr-old granddaughter loves to draw, write and doodle. I have a few spreadsheets to help me keep on track – they don’t do their job very well!

    on September 23rd, 2009 at 2:06 pm
  30. Made me smile! I hang my calendar out of reach above the kitchen counter, or it would probably look the same.

    on September 23rd, 2009 at 2:07 pm
  31. So nice of them to help momma with her planning!

    on September 23rd, 2009 at 2:59 pm
  32. lol!! At least the drawings were on paper….not the walls. It looks like one of them was actually trying to write something on each day :D

Happy birthday to your four-year-old. My baby turns 6 next week! My oldest has instructed me to “grow a new brother or sister” for her because “Lauren is too old now” Hrm….not happening. Mommy doesnt feel like “growing” another baby!

    on September 23rd, 2009 at 3:04 pm
  33. Awesome! Can I borrow your boys to decorate my calendar? They made my day!

    on September 23rd, 2009 at 3:32 pm
  34. It’s gorgeous :-)

  35. This is fantastic. I think it’s also probably what my brain looks like (on a good day).

  36. I think your kids are budding writers!

    on September 23rd, 2009 at 5:15 pm
  37. Awesome! So glad my kids have outgrown that. They confine their scribbling to the covers of their notebooks now. Thanks for sharing.

  40. I love the calendar! and how you squeezed in some words of your own! lol

    on September 23rd, 2009 at 8:39 pm
  41. LOL – those pictures cracked me up!

    on September 23rd, 2009 at 8:47 pm
  42. Thats funny. My boy wouldn’t have bothered coloring the calendar, he might have ripped it up instead. Speaking of the boy, I’m late for bath and bed time. Oops.

    on September 23rd, 2009 at 8:58 pm
  43. Natasha, I almost choked on the train when I read this I laughed so hard. It reminded me of the time I was giving a speech about 25 years ago and it was a relatively serious one. I moved one page over to start another page and there were crude smiley faces drawn all over the page! Certainly loosened up this Mother! Again, thanks for sharing the posting with the actual calendars here for us to see!

    on September 23rd, 2009 at 9:17 pm
  44. This made me smile and miss those days when my son was little…he’s 15 now!

  48. HAHAHAHA!! I loved that! My son (22 months) carries around a pad of paper and a pencil and all the pages look like that =)

    on September 24th, 2009 at 9:35 am
  49. Yep. that’s just about right!

    on September 24th, 2009 at 11:20 am
  50. ROTFLMAO!! I love it! Been there, done that. Now, my calendar stays nice and tidy, thank goodness.

  52. That’s so adorable, Natasha! LOL I love it. Thanks for sharing. :-)

    on September 24th, 2009 at 12:37 pm
  53. That is hilarious. And it looks like you’re pretty busy for the next two months too. Not a day left unaccounted for. ;-)

    on September 24th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
  54. Hysterical! I have three young boys – and EVERYTHING in my house has been scribbled on. Once they played tic-tac-toe on the couch!

    on September 24th, 2009 at 6:53 pm
  55. I completely understand.

    on September 25th, 2009 at 2:47 am
  56. so incredibly funny. Every thing’s on my computer. Son cannot touch it.

    on September 25th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
  57. Seems about right to me!

    on September 25th, 2009 at 3:28 pm
  58. Well, at least you tried to be organized with a blogging calendar. I scribble my ideas on the back of grocery receipts that I eventually end up accidentally throwing away so I’d say you are one step ahead of me. :)

    on September 25th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
  59. Thank you for the comments everybody! I should mention that my walls are not immune to this type of behavior either!

    on September 26th, 2009 at 2:32 am
  60. Oh, you’ve got to post more of your blogging secrets and strategies – this is priceless!

    on September 27th, 2009 at 10:09 am
  61. Oh my gosh. This is the most funny/precious thing ever!
My walls can also relate. Thanks for sharing the pics. SO classic.
