Frank McCourt, Pulitzer Prize Winning Author of Angela’s Ashes, Dies at Age 78
Frank McCourt has passed away at the age of 78 after recently falling ill. Angela’s Ashes was one of the very fist memoirs that I ever read (in fact, I’ve given it away more than once here on my blog), and it was because of it that I now count memoirs among one of my most favorite genres to read. I think now would be a good time to read both Angela’s Ashes and ‘Tis and dive into Teacher Man which I’ve had sitting on my shelf for much too long. He will be missed.
Read this great piece from the LA Times.

I’m so sad to say goodbye to Mr. McCourt, too. It’s hard not to feel like you knew him, after reading his memoirs, isn’t it?
on July 19th, 2009 at 9:48 pmI have Angela’s Ashes in my TBR and I think I would definitely have to read it now…soon. Thanks for the tribute post Natasha, I wouldn’t have known otherwise.
on July 20th, 2009 at 12:45 amI won those copies of Angela’s Ashes and Tis. Angela’s Ashes is in my summer box (the small box of books I’m toting around from house to house this summer to read).
on July 20th, 2009 at 8:21 amI loved Angela’s Ashes. Thanks for the thoughtful tribute post.
on July 20th, 2009 at 11:44 amMy coworker just informed me of this and I can’t believe it. I agree with Ali that it’s hard feel like you didn’t know McCourt after reading his works. I’m sure he’ll be remembered for a long time to come.

I’ve been meaning to read McCourt’s books and I think that I have every single one of them on my TBR shelf. I was so sad to hear of his passing. I think that I may need to honor him by picking up one of his books and actually reading it.
on July 20th, 2009 at 9:08 pmI found Angela’s Ashes incredibly inspiring and touching. It’s the type of book that just pops into my head a few times a year, years after reading it.
