An elevator pitch for book blogs, huh? For me it is almost a safe haven--a place where I can talk about books without any restraint and know that someone out there is interested. I don't talk about books a lot in real life because the look of disinterest breaks my heart. So glad I've found a group of people who are as passionate about the written word as I am (and can give GREAT suggestions!).

As you mentioned, bloggers are often like neighbors or friends, providing recommendations about good books. After reading a week's worth of posts, you get a sense of shared values (or not). It's great that blogs have proliferated, because the number of book critics in newspapers and magazines is dwindling, and someone needs to keep folks interested in reading.

I admit to having a hard time deciding just which blogs to read. There are almost too many to even bother digging through. (Which is why my own blog is languishing in a forgotten corner.) But, I like the personal and even ranting and raving nature of a blog book review. While I like to know what books receive starred reviews, a professional reviewer isn't usually going to rave about how awesome a book is or cry about the lameness of something they were hoping would be awesome. We definitely have more emotional range available.

I heart the community of book bloggers. I've been trying to get my mom into some book blogs a little bit, but I think I have to find a blogger who likes the same books she does first.

Thanks for the vlog. I think you ladies hit the nail on the head. I agree with every point you brought up. You know, I have a Bachelor's degree in English, and for 4 years pretty much hated every blasted piece of literature they made me read. I like reading, but I like reading books that are enjoyable. That's why I like book blogs, I can get an honest opinion on if a book is good or not.

Are book bloggers really becoming more influential? I'm going to have to conduct some research...

There was what sounded like a gigantic crow screeching in the background at the end of your video. He wanted to express his opinion too!

thanks for this vlog. I read book blogs because I love how every blogger has a take on the book. Like Amy says, it makes the book a shared experience. You don't find too many adults in every day life who are willing to form a children's picture book - book club. But I love sharing ideas about them and reading what other bloggers have to say. I'm so glad you guys are out there. I'll tweet this vlog to help you get the word out too!

Great vlog! And the word of mouth thing is so important, because blogs magnify its effect so much. You all did a great job!
