Video Chat: The BookExpo America Box Arrival (aka: lot’s of fun books!)

bookexpoamericaYou wouldn’t believe it from my lack of posts (I swear I’m planning on it!) but I did in fact go to BookExpo America in New York City last weekend. It was my first visit to both BEA and the big city (squeezed in a bus tour on Sunday afternoon – I’d love to go back to experience it more hands on).

It was really great to meet a lot of bloggers, publishers, publicists and authors whom I’ve communicated with for the last year. I was thrilled to be on a book blogging panel and having the audience mob us afterwards made me feel almost like a superstar (what can I say, most of the time, I’m wiping snot off of my clothes – I’ve got to live it up while I can).  Even the conversations that resulted from the panel were almost worth the trip!

The #BEAtweetup and the Kidlit Drink night were great (despite the fact that one agent was all sweet in my face until he found out I didn’t have a story to sell and did the rudest “drop the conversation and get away from me” I’ve ever experienced and then Betsy Bird aka Fuse #8 told me she mentions my blog not once but twice in a book she just wrote – so yay!)   The networking alone was worth the trip and the big ‘ol box of galleys I brought home was a really nice perk.

My box (which was $75 bucks to mail home!) arrived today and I thought it would be fun to open it up with you, so to speak:

I’ve got a lot of great books to look forward to reading!  There were so many authors that I would have LOVED to meet but missed.

giveawaysAnd now that my books are home I can announce the winners of the #BEAtwittyparty giveaway!  I LOVED seeing which authors you would party with.  It was so much fun.   The three winners are:

#29 Susan at Reading Upside Down with The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon.

#35 Clarice at Island Girl in Utah with Everyone is Beautiful by Katherine Center.

#5 Jen at Devourer of Books walks away with the grand prize of  three ARC’s from BEA: Strength in What Remains, A Journey of Remembrance and Forgiveness by Tracy Kidder, American on Purpose by Craig Ferguson, and Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls.

Congratulations girls!  I haven’t drawn my winner yet for The Chosen One giveaway.  Watch the comment thread (probably tonight) where I’ll announce the winner.

Hey you! Yes. You! I've noticed that you've stopped by to visit a few times! But I don't know who you are. Why don't you take a moment and introduce yourself. Don't be scared. I try not to bite. I know you're a lurker but I'd love to hear your thoughts about what's been bringing you here. And if you haven't done so already, don't forget to never miss a post by subscribing to my feed or receiving updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

  1. Man, I really rocked the BEA TwittyParty winnings. I won three people’s giveaways, 12 books! I’m very excited about the ARCs, though. I’ve been dying to read the new Tracy Kidder and Jeanette Wall books and am interested to check out American on Purpose.

  4. Wow! What an amazing selection of books you got, my BEA jealousy definitely just went up! ^_^

I can not wait for your giveaway of the Sara Zarr book, I have been trying to get my hands on one of her books for a while now. :)

  5. Love the Sara Zarr book – her other two books are terrific!

I’m hoping to go to BEA next year when I’m in Boston and live so close! Just a bus ride away.

  6. I’ve been amazed at all the different books people came home with – we got several in common, but a lot of our galleys are different.

  7. I can’t believe you paid to mail home the catalogs, BEA books and PW newsletters! :) But then again, how many more books did you need? ;)

We got a lot the same, and some different.

  8. OMG. That was the box of books that just kept on giving! It must really be satisfying to be mentioned in books and recognized by authors on sight! Amazing!

  9. Congratulations to all the winners. And thanks so much for the BEA book parade. I loved watching it. I can’t wait until next year.

  10. Jen – WOW! That is a lot of books!

Melody – I’ll likely have another post about the panel. So watch for it!

Alea – I thought it was fun! Glad I didn’t have anything embarrassing in there!

Jessica Marie – I’ll post the giveaway sometime this month I’m sure.

Kathy – Funny how that works out doesn’t it?

Amy – What can I say? I love catalogs. And as I was doing the bus tour and walking around NYC, anything to get a load off of my shoulders. I only left one book behind which I got after realizing I was in the wrong line. Didn’t sound good at all.

  12. Natasha, I had no idea you lived in Utah! That’s so awesome! I live in Utah as well. (Utah County) We should get together sometime and talk books. Looks like you had a great time at BEA, I’m super jealous. :)

  13. Natasha, that was so much fun opening your box-o-books with you!!! You had my husband laughing (about half way through he said “My God, how many books does she have in there!?!?”). You guys had so much fun – I so want to do this next year!!!

  14. How fun! Thanks for sharing with us. It almost felt like a Christmas morning scene. :) I also opened three boxes of books today, but they were ones in Mt. TBR that I had to box and send to myself for the summer. Do you ever feel an overwhelming sense of pressure too? I know I am right now! At least it’s a good pressure.

  16. Natasha, this was so fun to watch. What an awesome box of books!

You’re so awesome for giving the signed Gaiman book away. I wouldn’t be surprised if that rivals your Stephenie Meyer giveaway traffic!

  17. Ha, I know! But I’m so excited about all of them, it is ALMOST (but not at all) like going to BEA! Between those and the 28 books I brought home for “No BEA? Books Anyway!” I’ve probably accumulated nearly as many as those who went, actually.

I loved watching your video, it was like living the experience vicariously through you. I’m so there next year.

  22. Okay, the moment you said, “I don’t even remember getting that book” was the moment I could DIE of jealousy. Honestly? I’m sooo deprived.

Sounds like you had a great time. I love the trading card, it’d be cool to be able to get them made and to have one for your fav blogs.

  26. I’m very jealous about your BEA book delivery, but winning a copy of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time makes up for it. I LOVE this book, but don’t have a copy of my own.

    Thanks so much.

    on June 11th, 2009 at 5:15 am
  27. I’ve organized all of my books on my shelf in publication date order. *sigh* They are very nice to look at. Hopefully, I can read them all!
