48 Hour Book Challenge – It is Finished!
Finished! My 48 hours are up for the 48 Hour Book Challenge. I feel like it ’s still early for a Sunday night and I’m actually not all read out. Probably because I actually haven’t devoted that many hours to actual reading (my husband who rolled his eyes at me and tended to the kids while I hung out in my room would probably beg to differ). So how did I do? Of the 48 hours, I read for about 13 hours and blogged for probably an hour. I’ve visited a third of the participants and as soon as this post goes up, I’m off to see how everybody else did.
What did I read? A little bit of everything:
- The Blue Notebook by James Levine
- Dork Diaries: Tales from a Not-So-Fabulous Life by Rachel Renee Russell
- Frankie Pickle and the Closet of Doom by Eric Wight
- The Teashop Girls by Laura Schaeffer
- Miracle’s Boys by Jacqueline Woodson
- That Went Well, Adventures in Caring for My Sister by Terrell Harris Dougan
- Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse
- 100 out of 334 pages of Into the Beautiful North by Luis Alberto Urrea
(Links go over to Amazon, I haven’t review anything yet). The Blue Notebook was completely depressing, so I’m glad I read Dork Diaries in the middle to lighten things up. I really enjoyed That Went Well, which is a memoir of a woman who cares for her mentally handicapped sister. The author, Terrell Harris Dougan, lives her in Salt Lake City, so it’s always nice to read a book set in my hometown. Jacqueline Woodson never ceases to amaze me and I really liked Miracle’s Boys.
Many thanks to Pam at MotherReader for hosting this great challenge! Hmm . . . I actually want to read some more. That’s a good sign, right?
Hey you! Yes. You! I've noticed that you've stopped by to visit a few times! But I don't know who you are. Why don't you take a moment and introduce yourself. Don't be scared. I try not to bite. I know you're a lurker but I'd love to hear your thoughts about what's been bringing you here. And if you haven't done so already, don't forget to never miss a post by subscribing to my feed or receiving updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

Looks like you had a great selection to choose from there! That’s the one thing I learned from this marathon, that I need to vary things a bit. I’m actually pretty interested in The Blue Notebook, so I’ll be interested to hear more about it.
on June 8th, 2009 at 1:25 amCongrats! You did a great job too! I haven’t read any of those but I’m interested by The Blue Notebook too. And The Teashop girls look cute!
on June 8th, 2009 at 2:19 amYeah, The Blue Notebook is one you have to ready yourself for, I’ve heard. The reviews of it aren’t bad, just that it is hard to get through. Congrats on your efforts!
on June 8th, 2009 at 4:48 amCongratulations on doing so well on the challenge. I really enjoyed That Went Well, too.
on June 8th, 2009 at 6:17 amGreat reading! You did mix things up in your books, which always helps. The whole thing is certainly harder during the toddler years, so a pat on the back to you for taking the time out for yourself to read. Thanks for playing!
on June 8th, 2009 at 8:27 amGreat job!
on June 8th, 2009 at 8:27 amI can’t wait to hear what you think of INTO THE BEAUTIFUL NORTH when you finish.
BTW, I am checking out Suzanne Collins because of the amazingly enthusiastic posts I’ve read about her on your site and others.
on June 8th, 2009 at 9:26 amIf you still want to read, that’s a great sign. You did wonderful.
on June 8th, 2009 at 10:01 amImpressive pile of books.
Can’t wait to see what you thought of them all.
on June 8th, 2009 at 11:51 amI just finished reading The Blue Notebook last week only to jump straight into The Chosen One over the weekend…I am in serious need of a happy pick-me up book after reading those two! I can’t wait to see your review of The Blue Notebook though.
