Why Did We Start Our Book Blogs? Three Reasons Why from Trish, Amy and Me.

And yeah, I know that title sounds like it should read like the book title, Thirteen Reasons Why, which I have in my review pile, but it is what it is. So, how awesome is this?!  Today you have a three for one.  That’s right Trish from Hey Lady! Watcha Readin’?, Amy from My Friend Amy, and myself all come together and answer the question, “why did I start a book blog?” Hopefully some of the answers will surprise you or amuse you.  Better yet, you get us in a vlog!  (And by the way, after watching this video, you’ll never get over the shock that Amy actually isn’t blue in real life!)

I’m really excited to meet these two awesome bloggers and many others when I go to the LA Festival of Books.  Trish is letting me crash with her in LA and then in May, Amy and I are bunking up together for BookExpo America in New York City. (!!!!!!) Give me a few weeks and I’ll be able to tell you if either Trish or Amy snores! I’ll put up a post about both of these events as soon as I can.  Totally deserving of their own posts (hint – there’s a panel and guess who is all on it!)  but I can barely keep my eyes open at the moment.

Many thanks go to Trish for cutting the video together.  You rock, Trish!  This will be an ongoing feature that you’ll be able to find on any three of our blogs.  Who knows, perhaps we should do the next one while we are in LA together, what do you think girls?

Hey you! Yes. You! I've noticed that you've stopped by to visit a few times! But I don't know who you are. Why don't you take a moment and introduce yourself. Don't be scared. I try not to bite. I know you're a lurker but I'd love to hear your thoughts about what's been bringing you here. And if you haven't done so already, don't forget to never miss a post by subscribing to my feed or receiving updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

  2. Now how cool was that? It was of course interesting to hear how you three got started (it makes me feel better by the way, at my humble beginnings!) but I loved actually seeing the person behind the blog! I knew Trish and Amy were real people, but somehow seeing them changes everything!

  3. Yikes! Your blog just told me to introduce myself! I’m Elizabeth, I’ve been blogging for not quite a year, and I love to read all of the great book blogs out there- including yours! I really enjoy your vlogs – it makes me feel like I’m sitting down with you, having a chat. =)

  4. GREAT GREAT GREAT!!!

Oh — this is like a Book blog 101 video! I just found the cyber book blog world in October; I wish this video were available when I finally decided to take the plunge. I have since turned on several friends to this community, but they are hesitant to start their own blogs. I will guide them to this post and I am sure they will not be able to resist!!

  7. I really enjoyed this video! I’ve had a blog for awhile now, but have always been hesitant to make it viewable to the public for several reasons. Well, I’ve finally taken the plunge (my friend Trish “Trish’s Reading Nook” inspired me, and it is from her blog that I found yours) and I’m extremely excited about this!

I’ve found that one, my desire to read is increased more everyday. This is a little difficult, as I teach four composition classes and am usually swimming in papers, but I do make time for reading because I love it so much.

I really love reading other people’s thoughts on books and especially, looking at the different writing styles, tones, moods, personalities, etcetera. What a great community! I am very excited to take part in it!

Thanks for the video, and I look forward to becoming a part of this community! :)

  11. This is great! I’ve seen pics of Trish and forced one out of Amy when I interviewed her for BBAW :) , but I hadn’t seen the grown-up Natasha until the vlog – so nice to meet you all.

You all expressed yourselves so well; I hope you continue doing a series of these … fun!

  13. I just watched this over at Amy’s blog and love this idea! It’s great to see you guys and hear your thoughts. I am a newer blogger, just started my blog last summer so it is wonderful to hear how you guys started blogging. It would be great to have you guys do a vlog at the conferences!!

  15. I loved this video! I am new to the blogging community and started my blog late last year. When I started I had no idea that there were so many book blogs out there. It is really nice to see so many other “readers” out there. I’m a bit alone in that aspect with friends and family, but am glad to see there are other out there who far supass my reading skills, which makes me want to reach father in my blogging and reading. Thanks, ladies!

  16. I haven’t watched the video yet…vlogging really hasn’t grabbed me, I’m afraid. (I may be too old for that part of blogging :-) . I got into this for the writing.) I’ll make an exception for you gals, though!

Natasha, I knew you said you were thinking about coming out for the LA Times Festival of Books, but didn’t realize that it was a go! Looking forward to meeting you there, just over a week from now!

  17. We could have done some creative editing to make Amy blue…

It’s good to know that everyone started at the bottom.

I totally agree with Amy that Blogging about what you read allows you to process the book a little better. That has been SO true for me.

I would also like to add that i have read so many great books from reading other book bloggers reviews. So thank you all!

  18. That was so fun to watch!! Can’t wait to meet all three of you at the Fest. of Books!

    on April 15th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
  19. I love this! I would guess that most book bloggers would list the same reasons for starting to blog that you all mentioned. Great video. Have a wonderful time at the Festival.

  20. Lenore – I know! Can you believe it?!

Sandy – Oh yes, very humble beginnings. I think it took me more than four months to get more than 10 visitors a day.

Elizabeth – Hi! I’m glad you left a comment, now I can go off and discover your book blog!

Molly – I wish I had even known there was a community when I started blogging. I didn’t and was so far outside of it. Glad I discovered it!

    Jenn – Yay for BEA!

    Beth F. – Thanks!

Sara – Welcome! I’m thrilled that you left a comment and I hope that you find the community a great place to be!

Heather – Yay, you made it to the end of the video! It is like bookclub in my bedroom!

Amy – But you ARE blue! Right? That wasn’t a trick?

    Chris – Thanks!

Dawn – Yep, that’s me all grown up. I’ve done a few vlogs before. Watch for this series plus my video chats at least 2x a month!

Suey – I hope to convince a lot of people to do video while we are together!

Bonnie & Darlene – I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Tracie – It is impossible to keep up with all of the bloggers. There are so many.

Florinda – I’d hate to have a blog where it’s only vlogs. But I think having them in moderation is fun. And I can’t wait to meet you too!

Jenn – I am definitely more reflective about my reading since I started blogging.

LisaMM – Festival of Books is going to be so much fun!

Mary – Is this the first time you’ve commented on my blog? If so, welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed it.

  26. Wow, this is a great vlog. I never really gave it much thought when I started reviewing books…honestly…about getting readers…it just started happening.

I really love the interviews the most. That’s my favorite part…picking their brains.

I can’t wait to hear about the LA Book Festival.
