Video Chat: Talking About Signed Books (A Show and Tell)

Vlogs/Video ChatsWelcome to the fifth edition of the Maw Books Video Chat!  Today’s vlog is totally inspired by Chris from Stuff As Dreams Are Made Of!  Thanks Chris for the inspiration.  It was much needed!

Today, I show off all the signed books in my house.  Do you have a lot of signed books?  Does having a signed book make you value it more?  I’ll tell you that I think it does.  I love meeting the authors and having them personalized.  And even if I don’t meet the author, I love having them arrive in the mail already signed.

More on getting a lot of those books signed and meeting the authors are detailed in the posts below:

Seriously, those giveaways right now are amazing!  Don’t forget to enter!

Hey you! Yes. You! I've noticed that you've stopped by to visit a few times! But I don't know who you are. Why don't you take a moment and introduce yourself. Don't be scared. I try not to bite. I know you're a lurker but I'd love to hear your thoughts about what's been bringing you here. And if you haven't done so already, don't forget to never miss a post by subscribing to my feed or receiving updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

  1. I’m so glad to see that you decided to do this one :) And that was fast! I love your collection of signed copies. You’re so lucky to live in a place that has a great literature community. We don’t get many authors who come here that I’m interested in :( In fact, believe it or not, I’ve never met an author before! All of my signed copies are from the mail. I have numerous signed Orson Scott Card books, Neil Gaiman books, and almost all of the Brandon Mull books signed! Brandon Mull was kind enough to even send me a personalized thank you card after the third Fablehaven! Have you read the new one yet? It’s fantastic. I really enjoyed this Natasha! I still want a tour of your bookshelves someday ;)

  2. Chris – Fast because I want to go to bed! No, seriously, I was uninspired all day. I did two vlogs on two different topics and scratched them both. I do have one post about my bookshelves from back in June: http://blog.mawbooks.com/2008/06/13/a-peek-at-my-bookshelves/ But since putting up my new bookshelves in my bedroom, I am due for another tour.

  3. Your Matrimony comment made me laugh. I seem to be the only one without a copy! lol

  4. I loved this! I don’t have any signed books. You would think out of all the books I have that at least one or two would be signed, but nope not one! In my defense (LOL), authors don’t visit my town….or at least I’m not hearing about it if they do =(

  5. I have some Kathi Appelt signed (The Underneath, and all three of the Bubba and Beau picture books, plus My Father’s Summers) I have the Uglies trilogy signed (Uglies, Pretties, Specials). I have The Truth about Forever by Sarah Dessen signed. (Those four I never met the authors–but a good friend surprised me with signed copies from when she met them). I have Lightning Thief signed (Rick Riordan). Let’s see, I have Living Dead Girl signed, I believe, and I’m sure I’m forgetting some.

I DON’T have (a signed copy) of Matrimony though.

  6. Wow, that is a huge load of sign books! Unfortunatley, pretty much all the authors I like are from America, and I live in the UK, so getting books signed.. well, it hasn’t happened. I would so love to have books signed though, it would just make them kind of special. Rachel Caine is supposed to be coming to London in May, and I’ll be trying to go to the signing, so hopefully then! :)

  7. I’ve got one or two signed editions floating about the shelves, but the one with the best story is my copy of a G. P. Taylor (author of Shadowmancer) book. I was away at an arts/music festival, and he came to give a talk and sign some books. Anyway, chatting away as he was signing as you do, he asked where I had came from. I answered and he, responded with “Oh, whereabouts?” I said where it was, in my town, and again he asked, “really? whereabouts.” So I answered again, and he then proceeded to describe, in some detail, exactly where my street is!

Naturally, my first reaction was to wonder why a fairly well know author was stalking me! The more boring answer, it turned out, was his gran used to live about 2 minutes from my house! And while he himself was not really a local, he had been there many times.

    Spooky!

  8. I have two signed books that I know of. I have “When the Bough Breaks” by Kay Lynn Mangum. I bought that one already signed at the store. The other book I have signed is “Between Husband and Wife” co-authored by Dr. Doug Brinley. He is a relative, and he gave it to us as a wedding gift. I guess I’m not really one to go to an author signing. Maybe I’ll go to one sometime. I really want Shannon Hale’s new one coming up, so maybe I’ll go to a book signing for that.

  9. It took me awhile to figure out what you were saying when you pronounced ARC ‘ark’ — I always pronounce it as an acronym, A-R-C.

  10. Funny thing! We have A LOT of the same signed books! (But I do NOT have Matrimony!!) I also don’t have my Sara Zarr books signed, which I really hope to fix someday.

The thing that jumped out at me from this video… you haven’t read The Goose Girl yet? Sheesh…drop everything else and read that one now! It’s her best one… and that’s saying a lot! :)
