Fade by Lisa McMann

Book Cover: Fade by Lisa McMannFade by Lisa McMann is the sequel to the popular bestseller Wake which I reviewed this past December.  Recently, Lisa McMann was also gracious enough to give readers of the Maw Books Blog an author interview and talk about both Wake and Fade.

In Fade, Janie is learning how to control her ability to fall into other peoples dreams but her body is taking a toll because of it.  She can’t seem to get enough calories, her black out episodes are becoming longer and longer and her hands are becoming arthritic.  Her unwanted ability is literally killing her.  How long does she really have?   Janie and her boyfriend Cabel are working for the police department undercover at the high school where they suspect one of the teachers is a sexual predator.  Janie uses her powers to get inside other people’s heads to get close to the teacher and then ultimately draw him in.  The work is dangerous and Fade is darker than Wake because of it.  Janie and Cabel are on again and off again so lots of great romance as well.

I can’t wait for the sequel to see how being a dream catcher plays on Janie’s body and what her and Cabel are up to next.  A fun, intense series.

  8. I’m on the fence about picking this one up. The first one had such pacing problems.

  10. Amy – They are really quick reads. Escapism books. Worth the try.

Sandy – The covers are really eye catching aren’t they.

Kathy – They are really popular amongst the YA crowd.

Beth F. – I do need to start reading more series. I’ve always enjoyed them. Except the waiting part. I hate that.

    S. Krishna – I would say it does have a bit more to it. The sexual predator bit definitely makes more story.

Frankie – Come back and tell me what you thought of it when you’re done!

Heather – That’s why I picked them up.

Liviania – I know Trish had problems with the pacing too but I think it’s totally done on purpose and works for the series.

Morgan – I wonder how the dream sequences would look on a movie. It could either be really bad or really good.

  14. Thanks for the review. I bought this for my daughter not realizing it was the second in a series. She really liked it, though. I’ll have to steal it away from her and give it a try.
