Santa Claus the World’s Number One Toy Expert by Marla Frazee
Have I mentioned that Marla Frazee is my new favorite illustrator? Yes! Here and here. I checked out Santa Claus the World’s Number One Toy Expert by Marla Frazee from the library and it is now on my must have wishlist! I really, really want to own this book for my Christmas picture book collection. There are a ton of Christmas books out there but this one is definitely different and stands out among the rest. What a wonderful book!
“No one knows more about kids than Santa Claus. He is the world’s number one kid expert.” How does Santa do it all? How does he know how to give the exact right toy to the exact right kid (well, at least 99.9% of the time). How does he make sure they are fun to play with? How does he make them extra special? And what does Santa give to himself on Christmas day?
I loved this story for its simplicity. No North Pole, no elves, no reindeer, no milk and cookies, no Mrs. Claus. Instead we find Santa in his boxers (its patterns signify the passing of seasons) and high top converse shoes in his large warehouse, wearing his back brace and operating his fork lift, wrapping the gifts, and falling asleep on his computer. Marla Freeze has a gift. Her illustrations are perfection. Is that to much to say? Because they are! How I wish she would do an animated short (animation is big in our house, my husband is an animator) because her illustrations just scream movement.
Okay, I’m drooling. Love, love this book. Must get my own copy.

Having Santa wear Converse makes Marla Frazee instantly awesome in my book. *looks down at her much-loved Chuck Taylor All-Stars*
