Reading and Blogging Review for November

I read more than I reviewed this past month.  Looks like I am seven book reviews behind.  Read a lot of Young Adult Fiction this past month to try to complete 52 books in 52 weeks for that genre.  Getting closer.

Here’s a recap of what happened this past month here at the Maw Books Blog:

Books Read in November

Fiction

Young Adult Fiction

  • Identical by Ellen Hopkins
  • Lessons From a Dead Girl by Johanna Knowles
  • I Heart You, You Haunt Me by Lisa Schroeder
  • Little Brother by Cory Doctorow
  • Kiki Strike: Inside the Shadow City by Kristen Miller
  • The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson
  • The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart

Middle Readers

Picture Books

Non-Fiction

Abandoned

  • none this month

How I Recommend Them

Highly Recommended

(this recommendation usually for social issues)

  • Stolen Innocence, My Story of Growing Up in a Polygamous Sect, Becoming a Teenage Bride and Breaking Free by Elissa Wall
  • Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

I Enjoyed and Would Recommend

  • The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks
  • Identical by Ellen Hopkins
  • Lessons From a Dead Girl by Johanna Knowles
  • I Heart You, You Haunt Me by Lisa Schroeder
  • Little Brother by Cory Doctorow
  • Kiki Strike: Inside the Shadow City by Kristen Miller
  • The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson
  • The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart
  • This is the Feast by Diane Z. Shore
  • Amadi’s Snowman by Katia Novet Saint-Lot
  • The Heaven Shop by Deborah Ellis
  • Quake! by Joe Cottonwood (Note:  Originally, I would have had this in the “Good but maybe you’ll like it more than me” category.  But my interaction with the author Joe Cottonwood was SO positive – especially after you know what – that I had to bump him up, simply because he had the kindest, most gracious author response to a less than steller, lukewarm review.  I still stand behind the review and I originally did say I would be willing to read more of his books and probably will do so at some point.  If you missed out on the conversation there, you should take a look.)

Good but Maybe You’ll Like It More Than Me?

  • The Romantics by Gail Niederhoffer

I’m thinking that I need to slow down in December!  Just worry about friends, family and Christmas.  Somebody remind me to do this when I’m blogging to much.  ;)

Hey you! Yes. You! I've noticed that you've stopped by to visit a few times! But I don't know who you are. Why don't you take a moment and introduce yourself. Don't be scared. I try not to bite. I know you're a lurker but I'd love to hear your thoughts about what's been bringing you here. And if you haven't done so already, don't forget to never miss a post by subscribing to my feed or receiving updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

  2. Wow! You are prolific in your reviews! I’m looking forward to reading some and putting others in stockings later this month for some family members!

  3. You are a blogging machine! Congrats on a successful month. I feel the same way about December, though. I’m not going to stress too much about reading and blogging this month.

(By the way, I was reviewing some emails I sent you during the great crash, and I don’t think they went through. I’ll try again today.)

  4. Have I mentioned how happy I am that your blog WORKS again?

  5. I’m curious to read your reviews of Identical and Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks especially.

  6. Michelle – It’s in the review pile. Library says it’s overdue and I can’t renew it so I hope to review it this week.

Julie – The blog has done that to me. Before blog reading habits and after blog reading habits aren’t even in the same ballpark.

    Jessica – I’ll email you.

Jen – Have I mentioned how glad I am that my blog works again?! I did learn something. I am WAY to attached.

Becky – I liked Identical because I didn’t see the twist coming and was taken completely by surprise although I was wondering about a few things prior to the reveal. I know you didn’t think Disreputable History lived up to the hype. I liked it well enough.

  7. DEFINITLY looking forward to the review on Identical. I’ve only recently started her books, only read CRANK so far. Waiting for Glass from a friend. Everyone I’ve heard so far has said Identical was amazing, and since its not part of a series, I’m thinking about going on and reading that one. I’d like to know your opinion. =]

For some reason, Askimet Spam is giving me a lot of false positives. Even to those who have left me many comments before. So if you leave a comment, hit submit, and it seems to go the way of the wind, don't resubmit it. I'll catch it and publish it. Also, if you leave 2 or more links in your comment, it automatically goes into moderation. I'll catch that too.

I love and invite your comments. I thrive on them. But by posting a comment, you agree to not post off topic, defamatory, obscene, abusive, or use language that is not family friendly.
