Tell Me Your Thoughts About the Twilight Movie and Win the Books!

I just can’t help myself!  It’s not as if giving away nineteen Stephenie Meyer books this year wasn’t enough, I’d like to give you more!!  This is your chance to win the first three books of the Twilight series (sorry, doesn’t include Breaking Dawn).  I recently saw Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse available secondhand and I knew one of you would like to have them.  So I bought them just for you.  Twilight is paperback, New Moon and Eclipse are hardback.  The covers and dust jackets have seen a little wear but the inside pages are immaculate and look brand new.  But who’s to complain?  Either you’ve already read them a billion times from your neighbor but have yet to buy them or you’ve been feeling guilty that you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon yet.

Twilight, the movie, comes out Friday, the 21st.  In other words TODAY!  And I know many of you went to midnight showings.  My husband and I (yes, he’s read ALL the books) are going tonight.  Do you think he’ll be the only guy there?  I’ll leave my comment here afterwards and include some of mine and his reactions.  Tell me about the movie!  Did you see it?  Are you not seeing it?  Did you like it?  Did you hate it?  Do you like the books even more?  Did it ruin the books for you?  Was it like you thought it would be?  What was the crowd like?   Who did you go with?   Etc, etc.

Just leave me a comment for your chance to win!  Multiple comments count as multiple entries.  For example, if you subscribe to the post and like or didn’t like what somebody else said, then come on back for more! If I can tell that you are spreading out your thoughts amongst 10 comments I will throw them out.  I’ll just have to make that call. We’re talking legit conversation here.  Giveaway will end at midnight MST on November 30th.  That will give you a week and a half to see the movie (or not see the movie - not attending doesn’t mean you can’t enter).  By then, I’m sure some of you will have seen it more than once.

So go on ahead - give me your review!

  1. I haven’t read the books, but I think I’m ready to jump on the bandwagon. I would love to win and give these books a chance.

I don’t plan on seeing the movie yet because I like to read the book before seeing the movie.

  2. Noooo! The film doesn’t hit the UK until Decembre 19th!

  3. Oh yes, I saw the movie already, and I loved it! I am a Twi-hard twilighter though, and I’ve been following all the lead ups to this film. I don’t think there was any way I would be disappointed. All of the actors did really well in their perspective parts.

I only have a few complaints, but these are really just because I know not everyone is a Twilight fan and may not like the movie as much. First, this is a love story after all, there were some cheesy lines (mostly came straight from the book). I’m okay with it, but the typical male might not be. Second, I think the baseball and ballet studio scenes could have been extended. They had plenty of action, but I would have liked to see more. Third, sparkly Edward is probably not going to be a big hit, especially among men. I don’t know, I thought it was o.k. There really was no other way to make him sparkle in my opinion, but about half the theater I was sitting in laughed when he started to sparkle. I don’t take that as a positive sign.

There was a good showing of guys at the theater. I don’t think your hubby will be alone. I will be interested to hear the male perspective.
Oh, and you don’t have to enter me in the contest, because I already have the books. I just wanted to share my thoughts. Thanks Natasha.

  4. I’m with Alyce and haven’t read the books yet. I generally don’t see movies before I read the book. In fact I am making a point to read certain children’s books to my daughter outloud just to make sure she gets the book before the movie.

I have heard a lot mixed things about Twilight so maybe this will be what it takes for me to read the series.

  5. I can’t read about anyone’s reaction to the movie until I’ve reacted for myself, so I’ll come back Saturday afternoon and join the conversation then! I hope I can last through this day without “spoilers” (funny word, since, it’s like, we know what’s going to happen… I just don’t want to hear about everyone’s impression of it all until I’ve seen it!)

  6. I haven’t read the books, but I’ve recently been testing a watch-the-movie-first approach. I may see the movie Sunday, we’ll see.

  7. I finally broke down and bought Twilight. Just got it yesterday. Figured I had to see why all the girls in our youth group at church were so crazy in love with the guy in these books. Yikes, they love him!

I’ll read the book this week, I hope and then…maybe the movie. We’ll see.

  8. We went and saw the movie last night at 12:30 and got home at 3:15 am. I am so dead but it was worth it. Although I went in with low expectations cause you can’t make a movie as good as the book. Edward Finally started to grow on me even though he wasn’t HOT enough for me from what I pictured in the book. It did have a lot of humor and pretty much stayed close to the book. I still loved it and when I finish reading the book to my husband I will go see it again with him. I am a stay at home mom of 5 kids and it felt wonderful to hang out with friends and enjoy an all girls night out. I could not believe how many guys actually showed up for the showing last night it kind of suprised me. Even little old ladies were there at the late showings.

  9. Don’t add me, but I have to share . . . after nearly 2 years without a theater, our new one opened, today!!!! I’m so excited. We’ve had to drive 30 miles to see a movie (one way) for ages. Twilight is one of the movies now showing, but I don’t think my guys will be so accommodating.

  10. My husband REFUSES to go with me - oh but we will be going to the new Star Trek movie. I think it would be fun to sigh and giggle at the intensity of teenagers and high school and first love … I’ll have to call my girlfriends and see if anyone’s up for a silly night out.

    on November 21st, 2008 at 1:58 pm
  11. Mrs. B. Roth - My husband refused to go with me to Mamma Mia, so I totally understand where you are coming from on that.

I won’t see the movie until I’ve read the book, and even then I know this is not one my husband will be interested in watching.

As for the Star Trek movie . . . I have to admit I’m a big fan of Star Trek, and I’ve already seen both of the trailers that are out. I’m sure my husband and I will be seeing that one in the theater together.

I hope you are able to watch Twilight with some girlfriends - some movies are more fun that way anyway!

  12. First, I had such a great time hanging out with the girls and talking and laughing. That was probably the best part!

The movie was fun, although a bit cheesy at times (which I felt about the book too, so not a big deal) and there were things about it that definitely seemed “low-budget.” I didn’t like the music, some of the editing and transitions seemed rough, and I wish I could’ve seen a lot more from Alice. I loved the baseball scene and I thought Bella and Edward had good chemistry. It was very hit and miss for me. There were some scenes and lines that I didn’t like at all, and there were great scenes and dialogue that I loved. Overall, the good stuff outweighed the bad, for me.

Of course it’s not as good as the book, but I enjoyed it and I definitely want to see it again! Have fun tonight!

  13. It was a non-teaching day today so I took my girl to see Bolt. It was only 1pm but the line for Twilight was crazy and nothing but teens- mostly girls. Hope they enjoyed it! I don’t think I’ll be seeing it in the theatre. I didn’t read the books either.

Bolt was practically empty but we had a great time. It was so cute.

  14. Seeing the movie as soon as it comes out where I live, but i loveloveloved the books and i still don’t own them -_-

The trailers looked AWESOME though, i love all the action and the school scene in the exclusive clip on itunes. :)

    on November 21st, 2008 at 8:17 pm
  15. I loved Twilight! There was some differences from the book but none of it bothered me too much. It even converted my mostly non-reading husband! He picked up the first book (the only one I have) when we came home. We went fairly early and there were equal guy to girl ratios too… of course as we were leaving there was a HUGE line of mostly teenaged girls so go early! I’m seriously thinking about seeing it again.

  16. a-ma-zing!!!!

    on November 21st, 2008 at 10:42 pm
  17. I actually just got home from watching the movie. We were going to go for the midnight showing….but I just couldn’t hack the thought of hundreds of screaming teenagers. So we went today at 6pm….still screaming teenagers, but less. (I had a friend who went last night and said it was insane)

I left my hubby home with the girls and he had to get them ready and take them to dance, which apparently was pretty funny.

Anyways, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE enter me to win this contest. The only book I have is Breaking Dawn, and only have that one because my friend bought it for me for my birthday. My mom and I were talking about it on the phone earlier about how I read them all, but didn’t own them. I converted her and she read them all as well :)

Wow, this is a typical, long-winded, Jenn M. post. Sorry to all that have to read it!

I still have to add my thoughts on the movie! I liked it overall. I was terrified that they were going to ruin it completely…but it stuck mostly to the book. I’m sure they will make New Moon, and this movie will be pretty successful. I thought that there were parts, that if you hadn’t read the book, you wouldn’t get. It was exciting to get out of the house and hang out with the girls to see a movie I was really looking forward too!

Anyways…PICK ME! PICK ME! C’mon Random number generator PICK MEEEEEE!

  18. Ugh!!! I have not yet read the books (and I don’t have them) so therefore I won’t be going to the movie until after I know what in the heck is going on…..I’d love to win these books, then there would be no putting it off!!!!
    Thank you!!

  19. Okay, it’s over. Now we don’t have to speculate any longer about the Twilight movie. Hmm . . . where do I start? It was fun to go on opening day because people reacted to the screen. I did not expect Bella’s first shot to be of her holding a cactus and a spade. Too picky, I know. I loved it when the Cullens came into the cafeteria. They did look like they were “better” than everybody else. The contrast between them and the other “silly” high schoolers was perfect. Everybody screamed when Edward came on screen, and my husband’s work guy friend sitting next to me leaned over and asked “So, I take it this guy is the main character?” I loved when Carlisle made his first shot. I don’t know why. But too perfect. Edward looked like he was going to puke. But man, they needed to seriously lay off of that makeup. He looked pasty, pasty. Like it was an inch thick. He did wear some clothes that I didn’t think matched his personality (the blue jacket) and he was much to awkward when he talked. Isn’t he supposed to be really smooth?

My expectations going into the movie was that it was going to look like a Smallville episode (a series which we love). Twilight could have been 10x better if it had more money thrown at it for the special effects. TV shows have better. The running, jumping, etc just looked funny.

I liked all the characters. I think they did a great job. I had no idea that Stephenie Meyer makes a cameo, so that was pretty fun. Don’t blink or you’ll miss it.

Overall, I think you’ll either love it or hate it. If I hadn’t read the books I would have thought the movie was just mediocre. But we are already so invested in these characters it was fun to see them come alive on the screen. I don’t feel like I’m a die-hard twilighter so going was more like satisfying a curiosity for me. I’m glad it’s finally over!

Now, I’m off to grab Taylor so he can also comment. We need some guy perspective around here!

  20. I finished the book yesterday, loved it! I can’t wait to see the movie but unfortunatly with school today(saturday) and shopping with my Grandma tomorrow, I can’t see it this weekend. I also don’t have anybody to go with. boohoo. I plan on seeing the movie though, even if I have to go by myself!

  22. Natasha- I totaly agree. Over pasty, especially Carlisle. We had lots of hooting and hollering as well. The whole kiss scene made the audience erupt. I can’t believe you got your husband AND a friend to go with you. I thought the actor who played James was well cast…and hot. One of my friends is in her 40’s and was swooning. I told her I was going to tell her husband :)

Take that random number generator….that makes two for me. HA!

    on November 22nd, 2008 at 1:57 pm
  23. Alyce - In this case, I think it’s better to read the book before the movie. I think that was half of the fun.

Mariel - Sorry you have to wait! The Harry Potter preview came on and I was so sad, it could have came out yesterday. I’m way more excited about that one that I was Twilight.

Amy BTW M - My husband was so disappointed with the baseball scene. It had such great potential as a great visual. Sparkly Edward was funny. I heard somewhere that he looked like a disco ball! So glad you enjoyed it. Are you planning on seeing it again?

Cari - Oh man! Just borrow my copies. Krista just returned Twilight to me. I’ll bring it next time I see you.

Suey - According to Twitter you are in the theater RIGHT NOW! Can’t wait to hear your reaction!

    on November 22nd, 2008 at 2:54 pm
  24. Wordlily - I think you’ll probably think it’s cheesy without having read the books yet. I’d be really, really curious to hear what you think about it having not read the books.

Sally - That was me when I rented High School Musical. I’m a church leader for the 8-11 year old girls and that’s all they could talk about! I wanted to know what was so cool about it.

Michelle - There were a couple of older men at my showing. One definite grandma. A handful of guys. While I don’t think I could survive the next day going to a midnight showing, I’m glad you had fun.

    on November 22nd, 2008 at 2:57 pm
  25. Well, it’s set, so I’ll be able to tell you what I think. I’m definitely planning to go tomorrow.

    on November 22nd, 2008 at 3:07 pm
  26. Nancy - I was just excited to have our neighbors watch the kids! It doesn’t seem to matter how close the theater is, if you don’t have anybody to watch the kids for you!

Mrs. B. Roth - Taylor can tell Greg all about it at work! And I must admit that I love Star Trek! I’d have to drag my husband with me.

Alyce - No girlfriends for me! I was sitting between two guys. Funny.

Rebecca - One of Taylor’s biggest complaints was that the editing was too rough. And I agree - it needed WAY more money. Hopefully, if this one is successful, the next one will have a bigger budget.

Chris - So funny to go to the theater and see a different movie. It seemed like almost every theater was showing Twilight. They even had a table up front selling Twilight merchandise.

Nina - When does it come out where you are?

Ladytink_534 - So your husband liked it enough to pick up the book? Interesting. When we left it was later in the evening and the lines were huge! Our theaters were we live all have reserved seating. Thank goodness for that!!

Janelle - Glad you liked it. Any other thoughts?

Jenn M. - I do think they’ll make New Moon and hopefully, with more money it will get better. And I’ll make sure the Random Number Generator goes your way! Or at least I’ll think good thoughts! And I also thought James was good looking. I mentioned that fact to Taylor. And he’s like “Really? He’s so ugly!”

Darby - Read at least the first book before the movie. You don’t have to read them all.

Kris - My husband goes to movies by himself ALL the time. During lunch at work, or after I’m asleep, while I’m on vacation.

    on November 22nd, 2008 at 3:14 pm
  27. I read the book the day before the movie came out and went to a midnight showing. Now I can’t wait to read the rest!

There were mostly girls at the showing, but a scattering of boys. The ones sitting in front of me were wearing Axe, and there were a lot of closeups of Edward… multisensory experience! :)

I loved the movie, especially some of the visuals, like during the thunderstorm.

    on November 22nd, 2008 at 3:36 pm
  28. I haven’t read the books or seen the movie, but I hope to. If I don’t get a chance to see the movie, I will rent it on DVD.

    on November 22nd, 2008 at 3:42 pm
  29. I’m now back from the movie and had to come read the comments here to see what y’all are saying!

I have lots of thoughts going on in my head, so I’m sure I’ll do my own post of this, but for now I’ll just say I loved it. It was cheesy in parts, but I still loved it. I loved Charlie! I wasn’t really expecting that. I loved how the audience giggled when they knew what the characters were thinking (but we didn’t have any clapping and cheering as I’m sure midnight audiences did), I loved Jacob and can’t wait for more of him next movie. I loved ALL the Cullens (though Jasper was…. interesting), I loved the baseball game, very cool, with MUSE playing. I loved the climbing the tree part, even though it wasn’t in the book (that I remember anyway.)

    Anyway, there’s my initial reaction!

    on November 22nd, 2008 at 3:49 pm
  30. OMG! I love this series. The tickets ran out at the movie theatre so i have to wait. Please enter me into the contest. Thanks!

  31. hey there - this is my first time to comment on your blog, and my second time to visit. i came across you when i googled “quotes alchemist”, and was most appreciative to find that you’d gone to the trouble to write your favorite ones out. a lovely book, that was, and i am too many years late reading it.
i will wait to see this movie until i’ve read the books. so, perhaps i’ll win these and won’t have to fight the crowds who will be ordering them after they’ve seen the movie…take care, and i’ll be back - x nina

    on November 22nd, 2008 at 5:02 pm
  32. Suey- Ack!?! You liked Jacob?! He was SO not My Jacob, the one I fell in love with in the book. They did make him look taller than he actually is. I guess they do it with Sylvester Stallone and Tome Cruise…

I agree with you about Jasper. He had that perplexed look on his face the whole time.

Natasha- The random number generator doesn’t like me. Maybe I’ll go on a winning streak like yours…lets hope!

Tell your husband he’s CRAZY…the guy who played James is SO hot. My friend said he is on the cover of some magazine and looks even better.

    That’s 3 Mr. Generator :)

    on November 22nd, 2008 at 5:49 pm
  33. Hey. Saw the movie last night and I must admit that I was disappointed. There were many laughable moments that weren’t really supposed to be funny. I wasn’t too happy with the lack of quiet conversation between Bella and Edward that you get in the book. The getting to know each other part was cut down too much. I was disappointed in the meadow scene. Bella looked scared throughout that entire scene even though she was telling him she wasn’t. And, Jasper! What was going on with that look he had throughout the film?
There were some parts I liked, but just not enough of them for me.

    on November 22nd, 2008 at 6:36 pm
  34. Since I’m the type of person who prefers reading a book prior to seeing the movie, I need to read the series before seeing it! However, according to my sister, the movie is quite well done and almost lives up to the books - so there’s something to look forward to :)

    Amazing giveaway!!

    on November 22nd, 2008 at 6:37 pm
  35. I’m dying to own the first three books - I got home from the movie last night and was so desperate to read them again. I’ve had to go back and reread Midnight Sun. I’m pathetically invested in this Twilight drama.

I thought the movie was quite good - it took me a good long time to warm up to Edward (like an HOUR) and he was never “Hot” enough for me, but by the end I thought he was fairly charming. Bella, on the other hand, was perfect in my opinion from the first moment onward.

    The makeup - UGH. Terrible.

Anyway, I’m dying to go see the movie again.

    on November 22nd, 2008 at 6:49 pm
  36. Oh Yeah. Now that I’ve sat down and slept and had time to digest I thought of more things about the movie.

I loved that they kept Bella clumsy. I was hoping they were going to. I like her falling down on the ice on her doorway.

Sparkly skin…I wondered how they were going to do this, just don’t think they pulled it off as well as it could have been. I know nothing of how to work special effects, but I’ve seen some crazy things in movies. I can’t help but think with a little more money they could have made it amazing.

In reference to Mari’s statement about the missing dialog between Bella and Edward…I agree and disagree. This is where a book will ALWAYS be better. If they included all of that wonderful conversation the movie would have been 5 hours long. I think they did a pretty good job of squeezing what they could in.

I think if they make a movie of New Moon, which I think they will, they will throw more money at it seeing the reactions of screaming teenage girls. More money will improve the special effects and make it more enjoyable.

    on November 22nd, 2008 at 9:54 pm
  37. I’m with Alyce too! I haven’t read the series and I’d love to read it before watching the movie. It sure is getting a lot of hype!!

  39. There are no words for this…

Well here’s a guy’s perspective. Well, I’m not a typical guy because I did enjoy the Twilight series. I enjoyed the last book the most. I also thought Speedracer was one of the best movies this year.

Over all I really enjoyed the movie. They kept in a lot of humor from the books. The trick is to set your expectations really low.

When I read the first book I thought it felt a lot like Smallville, which I like, but it had that certain tv feel rather than a movie.I think it was the whole high school dance freak of the week combination.

The movie had some of the same problems the book had in my opinion. Why did Bella love him so much? Because he has a face like Blue Steel? Why did he love her so much? Because she was the most delicous smelling piece of meat he had ever smelt? I thought he was kind of a jerk. He was always looking down on people and thought he was better than everyone else. Like in the book when he laughed at that guy who thought he was taking Bella to the dance. I related more to the stupid guy getting laughed at. There is a guy like Edward in every school. He is good at everything he does and gets everything he wants because he is so incredibly good looking.

In the movie I thought Edward wasn’t nearly as smooth and arrogant as in the books. In the movie he was pretty akward and in that way he was more human and interesting. In that way I liked him better in the movie. I also thought he was kind of wierd, like when he was jumping in the trees talking to Bella. I heard someone say this earlier and I would have to agree. He was kind of like Tom Cruise when he was on Opera. I would also add a little bit of Tarzan in there for good measure. For me the weirder the better. Any pale weird person that doesn’t fit into society I like. Wednesday Addams, Powder, Edward Scissorhands, Pee Wee Herman or any character from a Tim Burton movie

In the book the scene where Edward plays the song he wrote for Bella was a very cool chapter. It was a character building scene of him showing his love for her. In the movie he was just playing a piano. The significance of the scene was taken out.

I really liked Kristen Stewart’s portrayal of Bella. My wife and I saw her in “Speak” which she played a very similar role. I think she really held the film together. Carlisle I thought was also good. Charlie was way different than I had imagined him. I was imagining more like Mr. T. Just kidding.I would have liked Alice to have a bit more than two lines since she was my favorite in the books. It seemed like a lot of the Cullens never really said anything. They needed to growl or hiss when they meet the other vampires. I liked that part in the book. James looked like Brad Pitt’s Louis(Interview with a vampire) with his nose punched in. Whenever someone compares you to Brad Pitt that is a compliment.

I imagined Edwards skin to sparkle like the lotion you can buy with sparkles in it. Instead it looked like he was covered in sugar. He is also suppose to be an snappy dresser. Some of his clothes made him look like a hobo.

The editing was kind of choppy.

Some of the effect shots were probably the worst I have ever seen. Remember how bad the effeects were in “I am Legend”? Well bring that down about 100 notches. I could not believe how bad they were. I would of liked to have seen what the Wachowski brothers or Zack Snyder could have done with the “running through the forest, the baseball scene or the last fight scene. The boat stopping scene with Victoria made me feel emabarrassed just watching it. It looked like they spent no money on this movie whatsoever.

One of my favorite parts was during the credits where they colored the film to make the “Apple in Edward’s hands” just like the cover of the book.

Like I said I’ve only read the book once and I lowered my expectations pretty low. After watching the movie it made me want to read the book again. Overall I enjoyed it. I felt it captured the general mood and essence of the book.

  40. FYI - New Moon is a go!

    Summit Entertainment (summit-ent.com)]

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES TWILIGHT SEQUEL - NEW MOON

Los Angeles, CA November 22, 2008 — Summit Entertainment announced today that the studio is officially moving forward with the production of NEW MOON, the second installment of its filmed franchise TWILIGHT, the action-packed, modern day vampire love story. The movie will be based on the second novel in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series titled, New Moon. The first movie in the TWILIGHT franchise, the self-titled TWILIGHT, arrived in theaters this weekend to sold-out showings.

Stephenie Meyer stated, “I don’t think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment. I’m thrilled to have the chance to work with them again on NEW MOON.”

Starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, TWILIGHT tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen, a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together…even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. Their unorthodox romance puts her in physical danger when Edward’s nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella.

  41. Oooh, I would LOVE to get the books. I borrowed them all from a friend, and they’re on my Xmas list.

I just saw the movie a couple hours ago. I thought Edward and Bella had WAY too many awkward quiet moments. It felt like a bad first date at times. The love story was very underdeveloped for me. Charlie was by far my favorite in the movie. His timing with his jokes and everything were right on target. And I thought Edward was going to dress much much better, and I was thinking the Cullen’s hosue was going to be a lot bigger, and white!

But all in all, I’m glad I saw it. I went in with low expectations since movies are hard to compete with after reading the book, but against that hard task I think they did a great job!

    on November 23rd, 2008 at 1:10 am
  42. Hey there! I enjoyed the Twilight series. Twilight was my favorite book out of the series. Eclipes next. New Moon and Breaking Dawn was my least favorite.

I also went and saw the movie. First of all, I know that the movies are never as good as the book. I went to the movies with low expectations but came out with mixed feelings.

I thought the movie was slow. There were a lot of non dialogue scenes and one-two liners.
The characters were shallow and were not developed enough in the movie. The movie had a very low budget feeling and the special effects were not special at all. I felt that they tried to compile all of the popular quotes and saying in the movie that really gave it a cheesy feeling which took away from character development and depth in the movie between the two characters.

I thought the casting was good. I wish they didn’t portray Edward in such a creepy stalkerish way which isn’t what I imagined him when I read the book or I don’t think I would have fallen in love with his character in the book. Didn’t like him jumping all around the forest like an idiot and the meadow scene where he suppose to show Bella his sparkling skin was as special as I thought it would be. It came off a bit cheesy. I would have liked to see more of the Cullens characters then just the characters being in the shot.

I think they should’ve spent a little more money on the movie and geared it more Hollywood then Independent type. They would still make a profit. With all the anticipation for the movie, low budget isn’t really gonna cut it for them especially if they are going to carry on with the sequels. I personally think they should get a new director. Harry Potter movies were pretty good and Twilight could’ve been just as good or better with a little more money and a better director.
THanks for letting me share my thoughts! :)

  43. Fate - Axe? I don’t even know what that means. Is it something obvious and now I feel dumb?

Suey - Jasper didn’t even have one speaking line did he? I wish Alice would have said more than just two words.

Nina - Well I’m glad you’ve commented! Everybody is welcome here and I hope you feel comfortable to visit and comment often!

Jenn M. - I thought Jacob was okay. He didn’t have a huge part, but he’ll make up for it in the next movie for sure. Which makes me wonder how are they going to satisfy everybody when Edward’s only in the end? Lots of flashbacks?

Mari - My husband and I discussed the exact same thing about the lack of them actually “liking” each other. Perhaps gazing into each other’s eyes in the meadow was enough? It was hard to say why they even liked each other.

Cherie - What quote are your referring to about Kristen Stewart? I don’t know anything about it.

Kristyn - A lot of people are saying that about Charlie. I liked him too. And I thought the Cullen’s house was white too! I think I was picturing some type of huge southern mansion with a big porch and a huge staircase inside.

Kristyn - For some reason, when Edward wears that blue jacket, it really bugs me. He would never dress like that. I thought he was much to awkward, especially when they were in the hall at school.

    on November 23rd, 2008 at 2:40 am
  44. Jaymie - HEY! So happy that you’ve left a comment! YAY! (Jaymie’s my husband’s cousin in Hawaii, who has a very adorable little girl!). I thought Edward climbing trees was a little odd, and they definitely need a special effects company to go in there with tons of money and make the next one better. I wouldn’t mind a new director either, but I don’t think that it’s going to happen.

  45. I LOVED the books, read them all but unfortumnatly don’t own them. Would love to have them so I could reread them anytime again and again. Can’t wait to see the movie :)

  46. Followed a comment, on another ‘Twilight’ blog, and thus found your blog. What a sweetheart you are, to be giving books away!

Yes, family (D-in-laws, Granddaughters, friends) bought tickets ahead of time and we went in a group, on Fri. night at 7PM show. Both theaters were sold out. ‘Twas a happening!!! ,-)

Yes, I enjoyed it. And also yes, it wasn’t perfect. -duhhhh- What book to film ever is?!?! But Yes, I enjoyed it and look forward to seeing it again. By myself and at an early showing, when the hype has worn off a bit and etc. (I know! I _should_ to going again, today, Sun. of opening weekend. Since first box office weekend is such a big deal.)

As you can surmise from my Icon, my fav character is ‘Alice,’ and didn’t get to see much of her. But… that’s not a surprise, from the first book. :-) So I’ll hope the momentum continues and _all_ the rest of the books will be filmed.

Another bit, I was very happily surprised at the ‘Jacob’ portrayal! -shushhhhh- But I wasn’t expecting a lot, on that issue. Hooray for being pleasantly surprised. And Bravo to ‘Jacob’ actor. (Whom one of my Granddaughters prefers)

Guess I did as you asked, with a tiny movie review. I look forward to coming back here often, to explore your book blog! Which is new to me.

  47. Well, I’ve attempted twice to leave a comment enlightening you, Natasha, about Axe products, but it keeps giving me an error, so I can’t tell if the comments are there or didn’t take. Sigh.

  48. Oooops!!!!! Wrong Icon keeps showing up, when I comment in Word Press blogs!!!!! :-((((((((
    :-((((((((((((((((( :-((((((((((

I’m on Blogger now, and have a cute ‘Alice’ Icon, there. -sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-

Wish I knew how to wipe out this old Word Press Icon!!! -sighhhhhhhhhhhh-

  49. I haven’t seen the movie or read any of the books. I want to read them and eventually see the movie but I’m waiting a bit for some of this to die down a bit. I waited on the Harry Potter books as well. Great contest and I would love to win!

    on November 23rd, 2008 at 9:30 am
  50. Natasha- Woo Hoo on New Moon being released!!! And if it’s what I think she is referring to, Axe is a body spray…that can be pretty overwhemling.

Taylor- So great to have a man perspective. Though, hmmm Speedracer???? I thought that in some ways the movie made Bella seem like less of a whiner/pain-in-the-behind and Edward less like a control freak. I agree though, they never really get into WHY they love each other so much that their lives cannot go on without each other. Listen to your wife…James is hot. And not in a squished Brad Pitt way! Totally agree with the piano scene. People who haven’t read the book would just think he was plaing the piano.

Kristyn- The Cullen’s house was definately wrong for me too. I, like Natasha, pictured a white mansion.

By the way did anyone catch the Stephenie Meyers cameo? Or at least I think it was her. In the coffee shop. I may be mistaken, but I’m pretty sure it was her.

Can you tell I want to win? I will be the comment queen! You will all be sick of reading my posts :) I should have spread these out :P

    on November 23rd, 2008 at 9:44 am
  51. Total bitterness, on so many levels. First, I honestly hated the books, but read them because everyone I know loves and was reading them. I am SOOOOO anti-sick-relationships (having had more than 1 sick relationship in the past) and the Edward/Bella relationship is too obsessive for me: I think Edward’s line in the movie makes my point when he states that she is his own personal brand of heroin. And I know everyone thinks it’s so hot/sweet/charming/wonderful that he spends 2 months watching her sleep…but I think it’s SUPER-creepy.

The casting was only decent, (Edward was well-cast, but I was disappointed with so many other characters,) and I was big-time irritated by just how much ETHNICITY there is in small-town Forks! A big grrrrr to political correctness. Not to mention the high school (and town!) looked FULL of people instead of empty and quiet.

And, come on…the producers were idiots. The film, with the popularity of the books and the inevitable attendance by women (sorry to your husband) 12 - 60 again and again and again, should have had a MUCH bigger budget. Instead, we got stuck with horrendously low-budget special effects, Edward climbing trees and leaping off walls in the ballet studio OBVIOUSLY on wires, jumping from rock to rock or moving full-speed-ahead with that swishy Wonder Woman/Hulk 1970’s ghost trail, and with makeup that makes the Cullens look not vampiric but GOTHIC ALBINO.

All that said, and here’s the part I’m REALLY bitter about…I felt like a ruddy teenager watching the movie and for the first time getting all stirred-up over Edward. All of a sudden, vampire sex didn’t seem quite so bad. Which means that I’ll probably go see the next movie. I seriously doubt the majority of the cast will have learned to act by then…(this was soap-opera quality at its best) but at least by that time the producers will likely have learned that they can allocate a bigger budget, and I won’t have to see vampire legs swing forward during leaps like they’re on wires. UGH.

  52. Now I get to comment on other comments, and I’m only a little down the list!

My husband flatly told me back when I started reading the books that if ever a movie cropped up, there was no way in HADES he was going with me and I’d have to find a bunch of girls to go with. So when Jason and Ginny came to visit Disneyland with her family this weekend and she asked me if I wanted to go with her and her sisters and mom, I was in; I missed our girls-in-the-ward midnight showing because, hey, I have 2 small kids and need to function.

Besides, going with my anti-Twilight husband and hearing him laugh at the effects and watching him roll his eyes at the sexiest parts of the movie would have TOTALLY ruined it for me.

And as to the argument that the role of Edward was badly cast, I don’t know, I’m a huge Harry Potter fan, and I thought Cedric was hot to begin with…now I want 2 of him, one for breakfast and one for lunch. (I have my husband for dinner.) :) I mean, come on, if we’re talking vampires, you don’t want supermodel men…you want hot, sexy, slightly rough-around-the-edges men. And Edward is. Oh, and I thought the sparkly thing was well done (instead of being outright stupid and prismatic), but I REALLY wanted him to whip his shirt off. I think that might have quieted the snickering audience…to see Robert sans top. Yum. Anyway, I’ll add more comments as I read more comments. Thanks, Natasha! Since I don’t own the books, I always enjoy an opportunity to win!

  53. I saw the movie yesterday afternoon. It was much better than I expected! The trailers, to me, made it look dull and overacted, and I was probably the biggest boycotter of the movie, but my friends tried very adimantly to connvince me, and I caved. I agree, the sparkling was…pittiful, but other than that, it was a very good movie. A must see for any Twilight fan.

And Robert Pattinson definitely grew on me.

    on November 23rd, 2008 at 10:20 am
  54. I’m terrified of watching the movie! I’m so scared that it might just get my hopes up.

    on November 23rd, 2008 at 10:27 am
  55. 2 more things…sorry, working my way through. James didn’t bother me as much as Victoria, who should have been radiant, terrifying, and had eyes to match her hair. They made way too much of Laurent’s eyes. And I loathed the whole “next movie coming soon” reference by us seeing Victoria in the end.

Speaking of stupid references, the apple drop-and-catch. Yeah, we get it. The book cover. Ha ha. But this is not Eve being tempted by the Devil, people, it’s an addict hooked on LSD, or Pandora being tempted by the box. Irritating.

    on November 23rd, 2008 at 10:28 am
  56. Haha, my friend loves that scene with the apple (she saw it in the trailer). Every time I have an apple, she always ask me if she can borrow it. I ask her why, and she says I want to recreate the scene where Edward drops the apple and kicks it, landing perfectly in his hands. I just look at her, then bite my apple XD.

    on November 23rd, 2008 at 10:34 am
  57. Jenn M. - I agree about Jacob and Jasper. Jacob totally had this scary-looking pig nose, and was neither bashful or severe enough. Didn’t do it for me. Maybe when he starts growing into a 10 foot tall, super-broad beasty boy they’ll swap actors. That’d be a god-send. And Jasper seriously looked CONSTIPATED. The whole movie. And it made me wonder if vampires have to use that bathroom, and what THAT would be like, which thoroughly grossed me out. (And now that I’d said that, try not to think about it.)

And Suey, I agree with Charlie. I admit, being a parent, I loved watching him mess with his gun when he told Bella to bring in Edward. Very characteristic of Charlie…and of a Dad.

But I didn’t particularly like Renee, probably because I’m such a fan of the series 24, and I can’t NOT think of her as Nina-the-bad-lady. Such is life when you’re an actor/ess, right?

    on November 23rd, 2008 at 10:34 am
  58. Jessica - I completely agree with you about Jacob and Jasper. From what I’ve seen from the trailers/behind-the-scenes and whatnot, I wasn’t very happy about them. Maybe Jacob will grow on me once he grows a bit.

Hopefully I’ll be watching the movie REALLY soon so I can a full opinion of it =)

  59. Axe is a men’s cologne/shampoo/whatchamacallit stuff. I’m not really up on men’s hygiene, I just know that it smells gorgeous. :)

    on November 23rd, 2008 at 1:57 pm
  60. Oh yeah that pasty look did bother me a little :( Oh and I expected Edward’s voice to be a little prettier even though I did like Patterson a LOT. He actually sings one of the songs in in the movie too.

    on November 23rd, 2008 at 5:43 pm
  61. Oh I can’t wait for New Moon! I wonder if they’ve already put contracts on the cast for the rest of the movie adaptations?

    on November 23rd, 2008 at 5:45 pm
  62. Ladytink- I didn’t know that he sang one of the songs, but I knew he actually played the piano and the director was considering letting him write ‘Bella’s Lullaby.’

I kept hearing Robert Pattinson’s British accent poking it’s way though. Maybe it’s because I’m around a British accent all the time. I thought it added to his charm. But maybe that’s because I love the accent of my husband.

  63. I’ve never read the books, and after seeing this movie I’m pretty sure I never will. I went with my wife who has read the books twice and was more excited about this movie than anything we’ve seen this year.

The acting is pretty bad, the actress playing Bella seems to have one expression on her face the whole time scared/annoyed. And every time she says something it had a little laughing gasping sound. The guy who played Edward looked ridiculous with the sunlight scene. My wife says he’s supposed to be gorgeous, but he just looked like he was covered with cheap glitter. And that hair looks like he lost a fight with a bottle of hair mousse. And what was it with him bouncing around tree branches as they talked about how he was dangerous for her? It was so weird, he’d say a sentence and then bounce to another tree branch. It looked really awkward, if it’s so important why wouldn’t he stand still and just speak to her?

The special effects were really cheesy, it looked so fake whenever he ran up trees or bounced around quickly, I hope this movie makes enough money that they can spend more money making it look good.

There were a bunch of cheesy lines, which I blamed on the movie until my wife told me some of them she remembered coming straight from the book. Speaking of the book, there are things happening in the movie that I totally didn’t get, but it seemed like everyone in the theater understood, again my wife gave me some information from the book that cleared it up. Seems a bit dumb that you have to have read the book to totally get what’s happening.

Then the romance, again with missing information. After five minutes, and less than five sentences spoken between them, they’re totally in love. What? How does that make any sense. Maybe if they actually spoke more than once or twice in the book it might make sense, but in the film it just made them seem like stupid teenagers instead of people that are soul mates. Edward really just comes off as a creepy stalker going after a girl he barely knows, and Bella comes off as a dopey girl that’s falling for the first interesting guy she comes in contact with.

If the movie is anyone’s first introduction to the series like it was for me, I don’t ee how it would make them interested in any more movies, or reading the books.

Even my wife said she thought it was pretty bad. She liked that she could see these characters she’s loved come to life, but she thought it came off as very cheesy, and had many of the complaints I did.

  64. Tessa - Wordpress doesn’t pull gravatars from Blogger but rather from to http://en.gravatar.com/. Go there to register your email address. I really wish Alice had said more than two lines. She’s my husband’s favorite character. Hopefully, she’ll have a bigger part next time.

Wordlily - Sorry it was giving you errors. I didn’t even see them in SPAM. :(

Jenn M. - Loved that Stephenie Meyer is in one of the shots. I hadn’t known that before hand, so it was a nice surprise.

Jessica - I remember your ant-Twilight posts from your blog. I totally agree about the budget. They knew they would make there money back easy, easy. Should have invested much more time into it. Taylor didn’t think Victoria was old enough or pretty enough. And I had NO IDEA that was Nina, but I can totally see it now. Wow. I totally loved your comments, they made me laugh. Especially, the constipation part!

Fate - Thanks for the heads up on Axle. I’ve never heard of it.

Ladytink_534 - From what I understand all of the actors are all on board for the next one. Why wouldn’t they. Huge career movie for everybody involved.

Jeremy - Thank you for another guy’s perspective! Especially because you hadn’t read the book. I agree that there is so much to be desired, especially if you don’t know the back story of the characters. The movie should be able to stand on it’s own without the books and I don’t think it does. They do fall in love to fast. I don’t think staring at each other in the field qualifies as “getting to know you.” Special effects were terrible beyond belief. So sad. Let’s hope the next movie is better. Like your wife, I thought it was fun to see the characters come alive on the screen. I didn’t have my hopes up and haven’t been following forums/blogs on every development of the movie. I’ve only read the books once. It was fun.

    on November 23rd, 2008 at 10:38 pm
  65. I loved the movie. I can see a lot of the points/arguments that people have made against the movie. But for me… I had a great time and I loved it. I guess actually I could have picked apart the book if I wanted to also.
I am 43 and I picked up the book recently not knowing much about it, or the hype or that a movie was coming out. I know..I know.. where do I live? and on what planet? I fell in love with being “in love” again. (That teeny bopper, can’t be apart for one second love). I fell in love with not being wise and cynical and I fell in love with a story that didn’t have cussing and slashing. (not that I care about that usually, but it was refreshing and exciting).

The book is “what it is.” The movie…”is what it is.”

The sparkling scene could have been done better…but it still worked for me. In the book I had no idea what was to come and I was prepared for blistering and boiling and horror… I was pleasantly surprised.

I do agree that the courtship between Edward and Bella was cut short in the film but I can’t really see what could have been hacked out to accommodate it.

Would loved to see a bit better effects with Edwards power.. aka Tree climbing. ( remember in the book Bella was always getting queasy.. that was left out).

I liked Bella narrating the story. I like the casting, as I had no expectations. I thought Edward might be a little more beautiful.. kind of like that guy who plays King Henry in the Tudors. But dang they are all so young for me I am not really caring who plays a 17 year old vampire. I also thought he looked quite different from Cedric (I LOVE HP)

I was thinking that he reminded me of Luke Perry from 90210. Ha.. that hair was wild. :) Part of his charm????

I guess if I had to complain I might say that if I hadn’t read the book I would have found missing pieces and wouldn’t have gotten it.. BUT I did read the book and I “got” the movie.

I liked the Baseball scene better than the book scene…that is the playing part. I also don’t think the movie had me saying ‘oh my gosh’ after that scene like the book did. For me at that point Twilight the Book was “not put downable!!”

I went on Friday night and I had NO idea that when the Cullens walked into the cafeteria that the audience was going to scream. I LOVED the fan fare and the good time. I felt like I wanted to scream too… ( uh.. well I didn’t but I felt like it).

I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally want to read further and just enjoy it.. I am not really caring if it is the latest fad, if it is over talked about, over criticized, or over-
