Nobel Prize in Literature for 2008 Goes To . . .
Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio, a Frenchman, has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for being an “author of new departures, poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy, explorer of a humanity beyond and below the reigning civilization”. Visit the Nobel Prize site for a brief bio and bibliography.
I must be uncool in the literary world because I’m not familiar with this author or his books. What about you? Have you read anything by Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio?
Hey you! Yes. You! I've noticed that you've stopped by to visit a few times! But I don't know who you are. Why don't you take a moment and introduce yourself. Don't be scared. I try not to bite. I know you're a lurker but I'd love to hear your thoughts about what's been bringing you here. And if you haven't done so already, don't forget to never miss a post by subscribing to my feed or receiving updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

I'm not familiar with him either.
on October 9th, 2008 at 3:03 pmNot only have I never read him, but I'd never even heard of him until now. I must be uncool too
on October 9th, 2008 at 3:14 pmHeh. I felt the same way when I saw that he was the winner. I've never even heard of him! I think most people who win the Nobel in literature or the Pulitzer are famous BECAUSE they won, not before. But maybe that's just me trying to make excuses for my ignorance
on October 9th, 2008 at 3:55 pmI don't think you're in danger of being uncool; this one may because you live in the U.S. The scoop: http://www.complete-review.com/saloon/index.htm#hh8
on October 9th, 2008 at 4:50 pmThat makes two of us. I have never read anything by this author either.
on October 9th, 2008 at 6:04 pmNever heard of him. But then again I am a grown-up who prefers kids/teen books
Newberry Awards are much more up my alley
on October 9th, 2008 at 6:08 pmNever heard of him, but that doesn't surprise me. Americans tend to be pretty Anglo-centric in our reading habits, and I'm no exception, unfortunately. Even our library, which is usually pretty on top of its collection, only has 2 of his book (3 others are on order, though!).
on October 9th, 2008 at 7:09 pmI've never heard of him either. But I guarantee you that within the next few weeks or so, we are going to see either a few bloggers reading books by him, or even an entire challenge devoted to figuring out who he is and why his work made him win.
on October 9th, 2008 at 7:17 pmI think a lot of Americans aren't familiar with his work, it isn't just you.
on October 10th, 2008 at 9:14 amNope. Never heard of him before this. Sometimes it seems as if obscurity is a requirement for hefty literary prizes.
on October 10th, 2008 at 1:54 pmI’ve never heard of him either. Apparently a lot of his work hasn’t been translated into English or is out of print.
on October 10th, 2008 at 2:13 pmWell, that makes six of us. I figure I should at least be ringing some bells, but I got nothing.
on October 10th, 2008 at 4:20 pmI must be uncool too because I've never even heard of this guy!
on October 10th, 2008 at 7:34 pmwell clearly i am beyond uncool. never heard of him or of any of his work i don’t think. lol. =]
on October 26th, 2008 at 4:25 pmApparently he’s not known very well here. Glad to know that I’m not the only one, as well as the rest of Americans.
