My Favorite Baby Board Books by Leslie Patricelli

Let me share with you my favorite board books EVER!  I check these books out so often from the library that I finally told myself, why don’t you  just buy them?!  Are you familiar with the board books by Leslie Patricelli?  Yes?  Then you’re awesome.  No?  Shame on you!

No No Yes Yes, Yummy Yucky, Baby Happy Baby Sad, Quiet Loud, Big Little, The Birthday Box, Blankie, and Binky are Leslie Patricelli’s collection of wonderful, bright, simple, energetic books.

Oh my!  Could I pick a favorite?  It would be so hard but I’d have to say Yes Yes No No and Yummy Yucky are my favorites.  But then I look again at Baby Happy Baby Sad and have to say that’s my favorite.  Or is it Quiet Loud?  See my problem? I can’t choose!

In Yummy Yucky there are the cutest illustrations of a little baby eating spaghetti which is yummy, in the opposite panel he’s eating worms, which are yucky.  Burgers are yummy, boogers are yucky. Ice cream is yummy.  Too much ice cream is yucky.

In Yes Yes No No coloring on the wall is a no, no.  Coloring on paper is a yes, yes.  Running away is a no, no.  Holding daddy’s hand is a yes, yes.  Ripping pages out of a book is a no, no.  Reading a book is a yes, yes.  Has my little guy done all of these?  Definitely all the no no’s!  What a fun way to re-correct a child.

I could go on and on, but perhaps the best review would come from my children who adore these books.  They could look at them forever.  For Easter, my kids receive a book in their Easter basket.  This past year, that book was No No Yes Yes.  It’s since found it’s home in the car and I can hear my little guy saying no, no, yes, yes out loud from the back seat.  In Baby Happy Baby Sad he’s always so sad when the baby drops his ice cream cone and loses his balloon.  And he loves the page in Yummy Yucky about hot sauce being yucky.

What’s even more fun and exciting than these books?  Talking to the author!  I’m just tickled to death that I was able to interview Leslie Patricelli about these books.  Serious star envy on this one and one of the interviews that I’ve been most excited about all year.  That interview will be up tomorrow.

In the meantime, if you have babies or toddlers or someone who does, run, don’t walk to your nearest bookstore and seriously check Leslie Patricelli out.  You won’t regret it.

  2. We have No No Yes Yes at our house, and it’s been one of my 18-month-old daughter’s favorites for quite a while. Now, she sits with it on her lap, points to the “No, No” pages, shakes her head and says, “no no no no no no.” It’s very cute.
