The Magic Kerchief by Kirby Larson

Book Cover: The Magic Kerchief by Kirby LarsonThe Magic Kerchief by Kirby Larson and illustrated by Rosanne Litzinger is a cute little picture book of the story of Griselda, the village grump.  Her tongue is so sharp that she hashes out harsh words to everybody who passes.  No wonder she doesn’t have any friends!  Although she wouldn’t dare to admit it, she’s lonely.  So when a poor old woman traveler needs shelter for the night, Griselda agrees.  As a token of gratitude, her boarding traveler gives Griselda a “magic” kerchief.  The next day while running her errands in town, Griselda discovers that her mouth has a mind of it’s own and instead of saying mean things, it only says nice, kind things.

A story of the power of words and how your attitude affects everybody around you.  This one was cute and fun.

Kirby’s newest book is A Tale of Two Bobbies (review to follow this one) and she’s the author of Hattie Big Sky, a Newbery Honor book, which I loved.  Kirby Larson will be joining us tomorrow for an awesome author interview.  Don’t miss it!

  5. Laura H. – This one is a picture book so I wouldn’t even dare compare to Hattie Big Sky. I’d put this one in the age 4-8 category.
