Did You Know My Husband Published a Book?
Well, since this is a book blog, I should mention the fact that my husband has published a book. Can you believe that I never mentioned that?! Isn’t that awful of me? So here I am finally mentioning it. So yes, when Taylor was 17 (17?!) he authored and illustrated a children’s picture book called The Incredible Jelly Bean Day. I met Taylor when he was 19, right when he was coming off of book signing tours and elementary school presentations. I remember I walked into a Barnes and Noble and found his book on his shelf, and thought, wow, this guy is really, really cool! I think that’s part why I was so attracted to him (besides the fact that he was really cute).
The Incredible Jelly Bean Day is about a boy and his dog, Fred, who buy a bag of jellybeans. But these are no ordinary jelly beans. They are soon thrust into a series of adventures that includes a giant octopus, tornadoes, volcanoes, and a huge dinosaur!
It’s funny to look back on the illustrations because you can see how his style has changed so much. For The Incredible Jelly Bean Day, he drew out the illustrations by hand and then colored them in Photoshop. It is now about 13 years (or twelve?) since it was published. Wow! Time flies. Unfortunately, it is now out of print and we have just enough of our own copies to pass down to our children. But if you are dying to get your hands on this one, it’s available on Amazon for $118. I kid you not! Makes us wish we had more to sell!
So what is Taylor doing now? He’s working as an animator at a video game company and loving it. He still has dreams of working in film and when he’s not drawing, he’s writing a screenplay. You can visit his website at www.taylormaw.com as long as you take note that we haven’t updated it in over three years!
Am I not married to a really awesome guy? Cool, huh?
Hey you! Yes. You! I've noticed that you've stopped by to visit a few times! But I don't know who you are. Why don't you take a moment and introduce yourself. Don't be scared. I try not to bite. I know you're a lurker but I'd love to hear your thoughts about what's been bringing you here. And if you haven't done so already, don't forget to never miss a post by subscribing to my feed or receiving updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

on September 11th, 2008 at 7:13 amWhile I think the book thing is really cool, I imagine my husband and son would read this post and miss that part entirely when you mention that he now works for a video game company.
on September 11th, 2008 at 8:10 amThat’s so cool. I love that he got to do a tour and everything. My husband would definately agree with Traci’s husband though, the coolest thing about him is that he works for a video game company
on September 11th, 2008 at 8:28 amAt 17? That is really cool. And $118? yeah! It is to bad you don’t have more to sell!
on September 11th, 2008 at 8:57 amThat is pretty cool. I could use some magic jelly beans.

on September 11th, 2008 at 4:12 pmTsk Tsk Tsk! I can’t believe you have never mentioned this fact. Even when you were doing the interview with him. How great that your kids will be able to have this great book that their father wrote!!
on September 11th, 2008 at 5:38 pmI looked at his drawings on the website and he is very talented. He has my older son’s dream job:)
on September 11th, 2008 at 8:15 pmNatasha your husband is just as awesome as you! Tell me you have several of your own copies. I would LOVE to be able to read my kids a story that I wrote and illustrated.
I did make my daughter a story with powerpoint, printed it all out and laminated it and had it bound for her and she thought it was the greateast thing in the world.
Taylor you are awesome too…not only for writing a children’s book, but also because I know you do the dishes too!
on September 11th, 2008 at 8:41 pmMaybe if you have an extra copy you should auction it off for money for your Darfur campaign….just a thought. If it’s going for $118 on amazon….who knows?!?!
on September 11th, 2008 at 8:43 pmI love it! The dog on the cover is adorable.
on September 12th, 2008 at 4:45 amWow, that is amazing. And $118, you’d be rich if you had more to sell!
on September 12th, 2008 at 11:13 amSmallWorld – Cool’s the word.
Susan – Seriously, who would pay $118 for a picture book?
Traci – Taylor does make people realize that you can make a living playing video games!
KT – It’s funny when he brings home games and video systems from work and says it’s “research.”
Jeanette – Even if we had more to sell, who would buy them?
amy BTW M – I could use some too!
ladytink_534 & Mary – Thanks!
Ginger – Not $118, I’ll tell you that!
Bea – I know so young!
Trish – What’s funny is that it never even occurred to me until this last month that maybe this would be a fun fact to divulge. I mean, this is a book blog after all!
Tracy – Thanks (I’ll take the credit for his talent)! We really need to update the site. He’s got hundreds of new drawings, sketches and animations to add in. Plus his resume is outdated by at least two jobs.
Jenn M. – At one point we only had two copies, so we begged his parents to give us everything they had so we would have enough for kids. They came up with a box. I always joke that we can never have any more kids then we have books. Maybe I should go count them?
Nicole – Taylor had a tie tac made out of that dog. He wore it on our wedding day.
Serena – I just don’t think anybody is crazy enough to buy it at that much. I thought it was crazy it was going for that much!
on September 12th, 2008 at 11:50 amAwesome! I can’t believe you didn’t mention this before now. It looks like a cute book.
on September 14th, 2008 at 12:08 amNo! I didn’t know that your husband published a book. Good for him!
I’m glad he’s enjoying his current job.
