Stephenie Meyer’s Midnight Sun on Hold Indefinitely After Illegal Copy Distrubition
After illegal copies of a partial and incomplete draft of Midnight Sun were released on the internet, Stephenie Meyer’s heart is no longer in the project. She has put the project on hold indefinitely and is moving on to other projects. Stephenie Meyer has released a statement on her website detailing on the incident and author’s rights to control their work. As Midnight Sun is incomplete, full of mistakes and flaws, she would rather fans not read the incomplete draft of Midnight Sun, but has decided to publish the draft on her website so readers don’t “feel like they have to make a sacrifice to say honest.” She does thank her fans and hopes we can all escape back into the Twilight Universe.
Okay, people! What a way to ruin things for everybody. I totally agree with Stephenie when she says as the author she has complete rights and control over her work and it’s her right to choose when and how people view that work. To have her work leaked early in a unfinished draft certainly would be disheartening. I’m with Stephenie. If your heart isn’t in it, don’t force it. Only work on what you love.
What’s your take?

I just posted about this on my blog, too.
http://crayolaab.livejournal.com/562757.html
I’m … unsure of my reaction. I was planning to read the manuscript this weekend, and not feeling guilty about it, either. Now I feel guilty for even having contemplated it. I don’t know what that says about my morals!
on August 28th, 2008 at 11:19 pmI would just like to say that I am absolutely disgusted that this happened! I am completely outraged at the people who leaked this and have now ruined the experience for those of us that wanted to read the entire novel, and were content with waiting until Stephenie had finished it. I was looking forward to this so much and now no one ever gets to read about Edward’s entire experience. I think you all should be ashamed of yourselves.
on August 29th, 2008 at 2:56 amI refuse to read the chapters (and I hope that others follow me on this). This is Stephenie’s work, and I think once she gets over what I can only imagine is a heartbreaking moment in her brilliant career she’ll reconsider the project. With that in mind, I’m a die-heard Twilighter eagerly awaiting the release of Midnight Sun. No matter how long I have to wait, I’m praying that I get to present my copy of Midnight Sun next to the other books in my room.
I feel so so sorry for Stephenie. I hope this IDIOT hasn’t tainted what would have been an amazing finish to her Saga collection.
on August 29th, 2008 at 4:16 amYou know, I may be the only person on the planet who has not read anything by Stephenie Meyer, but still this makes me extremely sad. Most especially for her…I can only imagine how personally violated she must feel. But also for her fans. Just so very sad.
on August 29th, 2008 at 6:58 amThat is awful! I wonder how it leaked? I was really looking forward to it, but she will go on to write other things, she is such a talent.
on August 29th, 2008 at 7:44 am[...] Stephenie Meyer’s Midnight Sun on Hold Indefinitely After Illegal … [...]
on August 29th, 2008 at 7:49 amAll I can say is that this is horrible and I feel really bad for Stephanie. Whoever did this should really look in the mirror.
on August 29th, 2008 at 8:03 amStephanie is being a whiny baby and needs to get over it already. She’s losing fans very quickly. I know that I personally will never be reading anything she writes again. After her reaction to the negative comments on Breaking Dawn and now this? She needs to get over herself.
on August 29th, 2008 at 8:04 amSo let me get this straight…she is complaining about the leak and then she, herself, posts the leaked chapters? Hmmm. Interesting.
on August 29th, 2008 at 8:13 amI also need to add that if this is the worst thing that is happening in her life, she has no right to complain. I’ll save my sympathy for people who deserve it. Like the people who have family in Iraq or have lost spouses, children, mothers, fathers, etc in the war. Or people who are homeless and living in poverty. Like I said before, she needs to quit whining and get over herself.
I don’t feel bad that this happened. Hey Stephanie here’s a news flash, sometimes life doesn’t always go your way. Grow up and deal with it.
on August 29th, 2008 at 8:15 amHow did someone get a hold of the draft? It seems like it had to be someone close to her and that’s really sad.
If this means that there will never be a Midnight Sun at all… then I’m very disappointed.
on August 29th, 2008 at 8:16 amWhen I first heard about this story, I felt awful for Stephenie Meyer. Then I went to her website and read her entire statement, and now I’m disgusted with her.
If she’s so devastated about this leak, then why isn’t she going after the person that SHE HERSELF GAVE the copy to who leaked it? You don’t have to be internet/media savvy to know that putting any draft of this online would lead to leaks.
Something doesn’t smell right.
I’m guessing that she lost interest in writing Midnight Sun after the Breaking Dawn backlash and was looking for a way out, so she had someone “leak” a copy online.
Or maybe she’s looking to drum up interest/sympathy for herself. If enough people go “aww, Stephenie, don’t do this, you’re really great” then she’ll somehow find the strength to revise this draft and publish it.
This woman is a whiny brat who needs to grow up. She’s clearly in over her head. I, for one, am not reading another thing she publishes.
on August 29th, 2008 at 9:05 amI totally agree with SM! I feel really bad for her because she gave copies of Midnight Sun to trusted people and they betrayed her. I think not writing Midnight Sun would be the best. It would say “How dare you give it away after I trusted you? Now, you won’t get to read it!”
on August 29th, 2008 at 9:30 amJust how exactly is punishing all of her readers for one person’s mistake the best thing to do? Please explain to me how that makes sense.
This happens all of the time with books and music, etc. although oddly enough it has yet to happen with a Harry Potter book because the author is extremely careful. It’s also funny that none of her other books were leaked. This seems so suspicious to me.
on August 29th, 2008 at 9:41 amYes, more important things are going on in the world. But when your rights are violated, it still is important to you. Stephenie Meyer is actually a real person with real feelings.
I don’t believe this is a tactic to gain sympathy or that she orchestrated the leak. In her statement, she indicates that she knows how the leaked happened and it was not intentional on the part of whom she trusted.
Jennypoo- Actually this does not happen all the time with books and music. Music and books may be illegally downloaded AFTER they are released in the format in which they were intended to be consumed but in this case it was BEFORE the book was meant to be seen. I don’t think her intention is to “punish” her readers. If you are in a creative stump, it’s hard to work on something. Why write something that you have lost faith in? I believe her when she says that this is the case.
on August 29th, 2008 at 10:05 amI’m not going to waste my time compiling a list for you but this does happen quite often, especially in music. Even if just parts of songs are released. It happens all the time.
She did not say it wasn’t intential, she said “no malicious intent”. There is a big difference there.
on August 29th, 2008 at 10:10 amShe’s a real person with real feelings? Huh….
I’m not saying her feelings weren’t hurt or whatever. I’m just saying she needs to stop acting like this is the end of the world. The world does not revolve around her or the Twilight series. I think someone needs to tell Stephenie that.
on August 29th, 2008 at 10:10 amHeather - I don’t think she is acting like it’s the end of the world. She simply stated that she’s moving on to other projects. And I think that of all people, Stephenie Meyer is the one who knows best that the world does not revolve around the Twilight series. What I find so sad, is that for some girls it does. And that’s a shame. As author of the Twilight series, writing books is her profession, so I’d venture a guess that it’s important to her. If it were you, wouldn’t that be the case?
on August 29th, 2008 at 10:20 amAlthough I believe the leak is inexcusable, I have every intention to read the released chapters on stephenie’s website. I need to. There is no other option. I definitely revolve around Twilight.I hope she can pick herself up from this disappointment because my collection will be incomplete without a finished and bound copy of Midnight Sun.
on August 29th, 2008 at 10:20 amI just think I would be more affected by this situation if I believed, unequivocably, that Stephanie Meyer had nothing to do with the leak. The fact is, I have my doubts. Her reactions to the negative reviews after Breaking Dawn came out spoke volumes about her to me.
on August 29th, 2008 at 10:38 amYes it’s her profession, but just because one person leaked her book, does that mean she should punish everyone? I would have had a lot more respect for her if she didn’t throw that tantrum om her website like a whiny 5 year old brat and just mentioned that it was leaked and that it wasn’t the finalized chapters and that she would prefer people didn’t read it until the book was complete. Not say that she isn’t going to write it now and that she would kill off the Cullens? It’s so childish.
“I definitely revolve around Twilight” - Ok that just makes me sad for you.
on August 29th, 2008 at 10:43 amI’m confused…which means I’ll need to take a trip to Stephenie’s website. She had the first chapter or two on her website already. Did someone leak the entire manuscript?
I was so looking forward to Midnight Sun. I thought it would be so awesome to see Twilight from Edwards perspective.
Hmm…sad
on August 29th, 2008 at 10:43 amJennypoo - You know, my life doesn’t revolve around Twilight so much, that I followed everything that Stephenie said after the Breaking Dawn release(I’m not saying that yours does either). But I do remember that she said, it hurts, but you can’t please everyone. You may still have your doubts, but I don’t think she would be so dishonest as to release the draft herself.
on August 29th, 2008 at 10:46 amJenn M. - I haven’t actually read it (he, he) but I think it’s like the first twelve chapters or something like that (anybody know for sure?). Enough for it to be a big deal for her.
on August 29th, 2008 at 10:49 amNatasha,
on August 29th, 2008 at 11:07 amYes, it was the first 12 chapters. 176 pages or so. From what I have heard, it basically gets to the part in Twilight where Edward offers to pick Bella up the next morning - to continue their question & answer session. I haven’t read it to know exactly where it ends but it is around that point.
Damn. Now I feel guilty because I downloaded the link and I’m like..60 pages into it. But I can’t help but feel that she overreacted sliiightly. Meh. I guess all that’s left for me to do is finish up what I’ve got and pray that she decides to finish it up. (Yes, I will finish reading what’s been released! Because even though I feel bad, there’s no way I’ll feel bad enough to pretend I don’t have a copy on my computer waiting to be read. :P)
on August 29th, 2008 at 11:20 amOkay, I understand why SM would be upset that someone leaked a draft BUT what about all of her fans that didn’t read it? Everyone gets punished because of the actions of one person? To be honest I was tempted to read what was leaked at first, but I decided to wait until Stephenie put out a finished book. She needs to put all of the b.s. aside and focus on writing the book that she set out to write. And if she is truly this upset about the leak then maybe she should have been more careful with her work. Im still a big fan and i’m not saying what happened wasn’t wrong but come on Stephenie, the leak got this big because people were that excited to read your work.
on August 29th, 2008 at 11:22 amThis is very disgusting. And I’d rather not read what she doesn’t think is read-worthy. So while it might be out there, I’ll refrain.
on August 29th, 2008 at 11:34 amI think it is a small overreaction. Don’t get me wrong it’s her work and she didn’t deserve this by any means but on the other hand she should have taken more precautions with the manuscript. She gave it to more then a few people involved with the movie and thus she shouldn’t be surprised by a leak. These things really have to be controlled.
I think she should have waited a little longer before posting a response, which I found to be scolding towards fans and overly emotional. One person scanned the document and she shouldn’t be upset with fans because it happened. I can understand being disheartened but to say now that she doesn’t want to work on it or maybe ever publish it especially after promising fans is disturbing in my opinion. I think I find it so bothersome because I don’t believe it. I think things are going to calm down and she’ll come back out at some point and say she’s doing it. Maybe that’s why this feels dramatic to me.
on August 29th, 2008 at 12:04 pmI agree with Stephenie when she said that this has violated her rights as a writer and a human being but i’m not going to say that i’m not disapointed. I’ve been looking forward to this book since I heard about it. The worst part is that some bad apples so to speak have ruined it for every most importantly Stephenie herself. A quesiton still remains will there be any more Twilight books whether it be from ANYONE’s point of view.
on August 29th, 2008 at 1:34 pmAw that sucks, big time.
on August 29th, 2008 at 1:35 pmWHAT?!?!!?
on August 29th, 2008 at 1:44 pmi am so upset about this happening…
on one hand i totally feel for Stephenie Meyer and i would be devastated as well were i in her shoes. I understand that its a huge blow to her but i dont think she should be reacting the way she is.
she herself said she knew who was responsible for the leak, so why isnt she doing anything about it? she should expose them and make them pay for ruining it for her.
also, i understand that her heart is not in the project after what happened, but i think quitting it completely is not the way to go about it. there are so many fans (myself included) that were so excited about midnight sun. everytime i read parts of twilight i used to think about what edward would be thinking and how it would play out in midnight sun. i dont think its fair for her to do this to all of her fans that were depending on her. she should just take a step back, re-evaluate things, and then continue with her work as if nothing had happened. she shouldnt let it affect her this much, if midnight sun were released in the future, just as many twilighters would buy it and want to read it. i doubt this leak would ever put a damper in the amount of eager fans interested in it.
im majorly dissapointed. in her and in whoever leaked the original.
on August 29th, 2008 at 2:29 pmI agree with Stephaine [who posted, not the author], it just got so much hype because people were so excited to read it. But I also think she’s taking it a bit far, delaying the whole release of the book? Pushing it a bit far. I think just saying how upset it made her was enough. It wasn’t all of her fans who leaked it. And she didn’t need to put the chapters online. If she could get all of the leaked spoilers of Breaking Dawn off the internet, why can’t she do that with Midnight Sun? I personally, will be reading the posted chapters, she posted them, so why not? If she’s going to stop the whole process of finishing it because of this. If she hadn’t been delaying the release, I might’ve reconsidered and waited. =/
on August 29th, 2008 at 2:37 pmI am completly sad
i was looking forward to reading Midnight Sun. It’s ashame people had to ruin it!! Yes stephenie is right to be sad (in would be sad)
But i wish she wouldn’t stop!! and i hope that she will visit the Twilight universe again!! and this time not give anything to anybody till she’s ready!!
I wish those people would’nt have ruined it, i didn’t even know about it till she told everyone on her site.! :((
on August 29th, 2008 at 3:19 pmI am sad too that she has decided to put this on hold ‘indefinitely’ mainly cause I don’t know if that means whether or not she’ll EVER finish it.
I think it’s SM’s choice how she responds to this violation. If she’s sad and angry- she has EVERY right to feel that way. I would probably feel that way too. My hope is that after a little while, she’ll be able to come back to it and finish out the series with this book. How ever long that takes her to get to that point. I do feel a little confused as to why she posted the chapters on her website. If she hadn’t, how many of us would have even known about the leak?
on August 29th, 2008 at 5:03 pmfirst off .. stepheniehas every right to be sad and angry and to put the book on hold . although it is HUGELY disapointing . i am beyond the point of sadness i was so hoping and looking foward to reading midnight sun . i am not only disapoited that it is on hold …I am very very upset . I am behind Stephenie one hundred and fifty percent , i just hope that it gets finished released and published some day , because i know it would be one of the most interesting and inticing novel that one could read. I am very very sad , i cant express how disapointing this news is and for who ever did this to stephenie , just know that this is not aprreciated in the least ,im not saying ur evil but you ruind it for the rest of us . and hopefuly some day soon stephenie will reconcider but till that day comes we have only wonders of what thoughts lye in Edwards head . I AM BEYOND SAD i hope that stephenie reads all of these comments so that she knows how much her fans care and how much we want this book … i really dont think it will make a difference of how many books sell because her books are just wayy wayy wayyy to fantastic. i do think she should continue with midnight sun , because it is far to heart breaking if she didnt ..
on August 29th, 2008 at 5:55 pm~ demmy a very big twilight fan
i don’t get her !!!on the website she said she put up the chapter that was leaked !!but when i took a look it was just chapter 1 which she already put up along time ago….
on August 29th, 2008 at 6:00 pmwhy would she do such thing as giving up on it…all of her fans have been waiting 4 this.. even when they all know the end… she getting on my nerves who cares if the were leaked get over it and pull yourself together. millions haven’t seen those copies and alway dream about midnight sun right by twilight in a bookstore!!! idk but im about to cry…
Nat - If you follow the link that I listed in the post above it will take you to a PDF file which is all 12 chapters. Hope that helps.
I enjoy reading everybody’s thoughts on this. Keep them coming.
on August 29th, 2008 at 6:09 pmI have to say that this seems a little TO convenient I mean not a lot of people really liked Breaking Dawn on her reviews and now she GIVES us a copy of her rough draft…
on August 29th, 2008 at 6:24 pmI REALLY hope that she realizes soon that all of her fans, even the ones who downloaded the leak, would still be excited for the final copy and buy it! Ahh, I was SO excited for this, and I feel extremely guilty now. I’m really hoping she’ll decide to finish it one day.
on August 29th, 2008 at 6:29 pmI think the leak may be a test. After such harsh criticisms and disapointment in “Breaking Dawn,” I think SM is testing out the fan base before spending such a great amount of time and effort publishing a new “Twilight” book–she wants to make sure it’ll still sell after “BD.”
on August 30th, 2008 at 2:05 amWow - I completely missed the fact that the whole draft had been leaked. i posted about chapter 1 last week and it’s been my most popular blog post - perhaps because people are looking for the whole manuscript!
I’m not going to read it though - even though Meyer has published it - it’s an unfinished version.
I’m intrigued by some of the comments here though that its some kind of conspiracy theory and that she meant it to happen!
on August 30th, 2008 at 3:13 am[...] awful for it to be pirated. Other people have a slightly different point of view though. Over at Maw’s blog people are suggesting this is some sort of conspiracy theory - that Meyer was concerned about [...]
on August 30th, 2008 at 3:28 amfirst off i’m extremely shameful to admit that out of curiosity i’ve read the leaked version of midnight sun (there i said it), but that was before i learned about the author’s decision to put it on hold indefinitely due to the leak. not that it’s any excuse or justifucation for doing what i did though. and like the author said, the leaked chapters were incomplete and flawed on some places. having said that it’s still really good and seemed to have the potential to develop into a story as compelling as twilight despite the similarity and overlapping, as it helps you understand the original twilight story better from edward’s perspective. what i’m trying to say is i’m really sorry to hear that stephenie was upset about the leak, and also sad to hear that the project will have to be put off due to this unfortunate incident cuz i think it’s a really good story for edward(despite it’s minor imperfection and all that). I really hope stephine will change her mind in the future and decide to publish the legal version of midnight sun for us fans to enjoy. that’ll be awesome! let’s all hope for the best!
on August 30th, 2008 at 4:57 amWriting books is SM’s life, I fully understand the reaction she has, being upset is only part of it. She has dedicated loads of time into this wonderful saga and equally she is going to be as upset as we are. Respecting her decision is what needs to happen, though we may not agree with it.
on August 30th, 2008 at 1:55 pmPersonally, my life revolves around the Twilight series, I have to read them and thats just a matter of fact; as bad as I feel about the leak I must take advantage of what SM has given us readers, the copy of chapter one even if that means continuously going to her website to read the only chapter.
I feel terrible about her decision she has made to quit writing but she has said she doesnt feel the same about writing it anymore. You cant unfortunately just pick up right where you left off in something like writing a book, its most certainly not like falling off a bike and getting right back on. Her books and writing are her life. Though,I wish she would continue the writing of a would be phenomenal Midnight Sun, I respect her decision.
i am fully behind stephenie but i think she should finish the novel because people still want to read the whole book and not just 12 chapters i know that i read those chapters off her page and thought they were actually better than twilight because they are from edward’s point of view and i know that i loved them so i think she should still write it i know it might make alot of people happier if she did finish writing the novel
on August 30th, 2008 at 8:12 pmI am truly dissapointed in the people that leaked the version of Midnight Sun. I would always rather wait for a year, than have her dissapointed. She doesn’t deserve that, she is such an amazing, kind person, and she deserves so much more.
on August 31st, 2008 at 12:14 amIt seriously makes me ashamed of the twilighters that released the copy. It’s not right. Poor Stephenie. I feel for her. I wish there was something I could do to reverse the insolent mistake.
i totally agree with stephenie. i was really looking forward to reading - the NONillegal version of - midnight sun.
seriously, to whoever leaked midnight sun out, you stink. you ruined it for EVERYONE. maybe the book would’ve been even better AND longer. but now, we might never know. thanks.
also, what about future books. now that stephenie knows that this is what her fans do, do you think she’ll still want to share her books, dreams, and insight of the world of twilight with us? if i were her, i’d feel betrayed. i started reading midnight sun, but i just couldn’t. i feel too guilty about it.
on August 31st, 2008 at 3:40 pmi feel so bad for SM… HOWEVER, i think putting it on hold was a bad move and not just because i want to read it. (which i do) i feel like she is letting the ” leaker” win! if i was her i would want to finish it and show just how much better the finished copy was!!! she posted everything that she didnt want posted on her website right after too!!! i know she said she might get back to it but that right there seems like she is throwing in the towel to me! i love her and her books and i am about to pound this unknown leaker to a pulp but i hate that she is saying ” nope! i wont do it! someone challenged me, i feel betrayed and now no one will read it!”
on August 31st, 2008 at 8:00 pmi know many of you will hate me for this but i read the 12 chapters and i fell in luv with them all ready! now the reason i read them was because i feel that if she really wanted to stay with the books she would have told her fans not to read it, finished the book and she would NEVER have posted 12 WHOLE CHAPTERS! i read it because i have a sad strange feeling that we wont get to hear the rest and……………. it brakes my heart……. i read it because i’m not ready to say good-bye yet, but, i think we are going to have to. i cried when i found out she posted them, i cried when i read them and i’m crying now that they are over
ya. im rly upset tht midnight sun has been illegally posted. and im rly sad tht she may not write the rest of midnight sun… i want to kno what happens… i had read the rough draft of the 12 chapters, its rly good. stephenie, i think tht u should continue on writing midnight sun. don’t let this unfornatune thing stop u. we, ur fans, will stand by ur side. we have ur back. no matter wat. we all love u, ur a rly good author and in my opinion, the twilight saga is the BEST book series in forever. we want u 2 finish midnight sun, we’ll still love it even tho this happened. keep writing,
. hav hope and hav faith. this is just a bump in the road. dnt wry, we all will make it thru. ~jazzi
on September 1st, 2008 at 1:32 amOkay, when my friend first told me that the 12 chapters were leaked, I was estatic. I immediately went on her website to read it, because that’s where my friend said it would be. Then I read what she had so say, and I went from being super happy to sad beyond belief.
And, yes, I did read the first 12 chapters. I was WAY to curious not to. I couldn’t help it. I found it at 11 last night and read until 2:30 in the morning. Then I woke up early this morning and read the last 20 pages.
Though I feel for Stephenie (I would be an absolute mess if this happened to me work), something here seems suspicous. ESPECIALLY the fact that the leak ended right before the meadow chapter. Which I was itching to see (and I’m sure so were a lot of other fans.) It seems very fishy to me that she would happen to stop at one of the most interesting parts, and then leave us hanging “indefinitely”. Hmm…
Anyhow, I hope she finishes it, because though I am suspicous, I am hopelessly in love with the Twilight series (TEAM EDWARD!! That’s why this stung so bad…I wanted to get inside his damn head!) and I cannot wait to read it. I am so impatient that I’ll probably check her site a little too often for updates…
on September 1st, 2008 at 11:34 amI’m on page 212 right now, and it’s SO GOOD. The finished product would’ve been amazing! From Edwards POV, ahh. I love it. Now I’m even MORE disappointed. Damn that Stephenie Meyer. *grumbles*

on September 2nd, 2008 at 11:54 amI think Meyer has every right to be upset. She spent a lot of time working on the draft and for someone to do what they want with it is wrong. However, one of the pieces of advice I’ve heard most often from published writers is you need to be careful about who you give your drafts to.
on September 3rd, 2008 at 10:39 amSO sorry, but she shouldn’t let them win, she should care more about her fans than her ego.
on September 5th, 2008 at 9:04 pmokay, personally i think stephenie is being kinda over dramatic about this. i understand that she “lost the will to continue writing” but shes really gonna lose fans. & by posting the partial draft on her site it’s like how honey draws bees. people WILL read it, i dont know about you guys if she just kept quiet about this and didnt post the partial draft up less people would read it. a lot less. but now a hell of a lot more people are going to be and isnt that going to make this a lot worst?
also, i read the 12 chapters. holy shit, i swear shes trying to like torment us! on her site is said she wished we wouldnt read it, but we could. thats kinda like telling a kid not to think about penguins. we end up thinking about penguins! it was like a teaser in a sense, she left off where the real story starts. now we’re gonna have to friggin wait until shes done with her fit to read the rest.
i swear midnight sun better not blow like breaking dawn. the first 12 chappies were good but ahem, we thought the first chapter to BD was good too..
on September 7th, 2008 at 11:50 amStephanie, Post 33! Why Would She Want TO Get Them Back! Maybe She Is Just To Big A Person TO DO That! Yes They Hurt Her And No She Doesnt Deserve It, But Forgive And Forget! Maybe She Runs By THat! Getting Revenge Doesn’t Really Help! It Only Brings You Down TO THat Persons Level! Maybe She Doesn’t WAnt TO Be Like THat! WHats THe Point Of Doing THat SInce You Get Absolutely Nothing Out Of It! And Those Idiots Who Think That THis Is Some Kind Of Conspiracy, SHUT UP! It’s Pointless TO Say That! SHe’s Hurt And Angry! WHen Stuff Like THis Happens YOu Get Irrational! Yes SHe IS Overreacting SLightly! But It’s HEr Choice WHat She Does If SHe Decides Not TO Publish There Really ANd Truluy Is NOTHING Yo0u Can DO!! So BAck Off HEr ANd Let Her Clear Her Head! Let Her Take A Break And Blow Off Some Steam! She’s Pissed At THe Moment! So WHat! LEave Her ALONE! YOU FREAKIN IDIOTS!!!
on September 12th, 2008 at 1:46 pmUmmm…. Gosh Crazy… Who would have thought, well time will tell.
on September 12th, 2008 at 2:23 pm“i swear midnight sun better not blow like breaking dawn. the first 12 chappies were good but ahem, we thought the first chapter to BD was good too..”
Speak for yourself, not EVERYONE thought BD was horrible. I loved it.
on September 12th, 2008 at 2:49 pmThis is upsetting. It really is. I read the whole Twilight series within a week (which is fast for me, believe me)and I was absolutely psyched to find that I could read the 1st chapter to Midnight Sun on the internet. I hate to admit it, but when I found out that the first 12 chapters were posted, I jumped on it immediately. Then, I was running off Twilight obsession, so of course i wanted to read it! Btw, it was amazing. You understand Edward perfectly and, he’s really not what you expect. He’s even better. Now, I’m sorry to undertand that Stephenie feels that her fans should not read this and that she feels violated - Conspiracy or not, If she’s not continuing to write it, I’m going to read it even if it’s incomplete. I needed a dose of Edward, what can I say? I know a lot of people are against it, but go ahead and read it. There’s a big chance she’s done with it and that’s all you’re ever going to get when it comes to furthering the Twilight Series.
If she decides to finish the novel, i WILL buy it and read it all over again. 1)Because it was just THAT good, and 2)I need to have it to complete the collection.
If this really happened like the way she said it happened, Im sorry Stephenie feels the way she does. That must suck to have her hard work leaked like that. But, Sh*t happens. Take a breather, then go at it again! People WILL read it, poeple WILL buy it and the ratings will be awesome!
If this happened out of a conspiracy to give up, I’m also very sorry Stephenie feels the way she does. What do you think she was going through that made her do this? The stress, the controversy and all that that forced her to give up on her greatest success and post it on the internet as the last hurrah? She gave up something she loved. This series was her life.
Anyways, none of us know EXACTLY what happened. If you want to read the chapters, go for it. I’d reccomend you to. I’ve actually gotten some closure out of it. Brought me back to the good times before that useless Renesmee character got thrown into the picture. If you don’t want to read it, then just sit back and wait for this to blow over. I have a feeling she’ll finish it. She just needs some down time.
on September 17th, 2008 at 3:36 amYou people are insane. Most of you have the right idea. Stephenie’s rights were violated in the worst way possible. Those of you that say she is trying to punish all her fans have it wayyyy off. How would you feel if a rough draft, something that was full of mistakes and not ready was leaked to people? Why should she have to put all the effort into getting all the kinks out and adding and smoothing things out in the story when she already knows that everyone has read her unfinished book? She’s not punishing the fans obviously since she posted the rough draft on her sight so people can read it anyways since she will not be publishing it. I have read most of it thus far and have gotten just as into it then the other books. You people need to get over yourselves and understand whats behind what she said and did. You probubly would have handled things much worse then she did.
on September 21st, 2008 at 2:06 pmi personally think that it was VERY inconsiderate for this person to do something so selfish. but you got to think about it… it probably was not only this persons fault for doing so. he/she was probably bribed into doing it. but you would think that people these days would have more feelings towards others.
i really hope that she continues the stories i love them. my friend got me into them an i read all four books in two weeks. they are fantastic books an it took alot of work. i am sorry for those of you who dont see how hurtful this can be. yes there are more important things going on in the world but this is different she trusted certin people NOT to do this. what a great friend.
on September 21st, 2008 at 6:32 pmKEEP WRITING an DREAM BIG!
(TEAM EDWARD!!!!!)
I ttly agree w/ amy. it is really depressing that someone leaked it, and i havent even had the chance to see what SM posted herself (stupid computer isnt working) but from what i hear is that its really good. also SM needs to get over it. yes it was a major blow, i get that, but the best way to deal with it is to keep writing and not let it bother her anymore. In the book Tuesdays with Morrey they say to only allow yourself a few minutes of self pitty, and let your emotions out. SM has done both of those and now she needs to stop wasting her time dwelling on it (and stop really worrying her fans about it) because i sooo want to read this book
on September 23rd, 2008 at 10:00 ami cant believe some one would post the pages it ruins the chance 4 the rest of us to read it and the experiance
on September 25th, 2008 at 4:30 pmI still don’t really know what to think. I am upset that she isn’t going to finish the book, but at the same time that is her decision. I don’t really know if she blames her fans, which I hope that she doesn’t because a fan didn’t do this. I have however noticed that she never really has thanked her fans. I mean it really couldn’t have gone very far without us, no matter how good a book is. I am still upset. still a fan, but upset
on September 25th, 2008 at 6:26 pmI feel bad for Stephenie and I agree with her… I started to read it and now I feel sooo bad! and I quit in the 7th paragraph… I still hope she does finish it…
please do! Stephenie!
on September 26th, 2008 at 4:10 pmThis is all so disappointing..I’m really just going to hold on to what I’ve got now. The four books plus the first few chapters of Midnight Sun. As I said, I really hope she finishes it.. It looks so promising and it’s like a completely different book in Edward’s POV. I understand how she feels though, and it’s really awful what happened. But still, I can’t help but feel she’s being ridiculous about it as far as with her fans. She never really has shown true appreciation for us, has she? So why are we putting her on a pedastal and begging HER forgiveness and boosting her ego? *shrug*
on September 28th, 2008 at 12:43 pmAll i have to say is that i’m EXTREMELY disappointed in the people that betrayed Stephenie Meyer, and they had absolutely no right to do that. I just hope that she continues to publish Midnight Sun because there are still millions of people like me who would still love to read and buy the book. I completely understand her reason for putting a hold on Midnight Sun, but she would still be letting down her fans. hey, its not our fault.
on October 7th, 2008 at 4:45 pmwith love
I know this is a really old post and I'm not sure if I'll get any response to it, but how many of you read the chapters posted on SM's website. I had read the 1st chapter when she posted it a long time ago to let us in on her idea.
I downloaded them, but I can't decide if I want to read them yet. What do you all think…if anyone is actually still reading this post.
on October 9th, 2008 at 1:23 pmjenn m:
yeah. i couldn’t decide whether to read it or not. in the end, i didn’t. i don’t know. i just felt like i was betraying her and doing the thing that made her not finish the book in the first place! maybe one day i’ll read it though. i’m so disappointed.
on October 15th, 2008 at 7:03 pmI read the first chapter wayyyyyy back when she posted it. I was SO excited for this book. Ahh. Oh well. I’ve read what she posted after the leak as well, and it’s really amazing, even unedited. I say read it, but hey, it’s up to you. I do know that you’ll love it.
..You’ll probably be mad after reading it though. Because you’ll want more! I was at least.
on October 16th, 2008 at 11:14 pmWhat a pity
It is a pity, whether she publishes it or not. I am definetely disappointed, but I believe Stephenie has made her decision, and we should respect that now and whenever or ifever she should decide to change it.
You must understand that it would be a huge blow to have someone who is your supposed friend leak your manuscript.
On a personal basis, I’d definetely buy the book even if I had read the leaked chapters. Simply because it is a book by Stephenie Meyer to add to the collection.

on October 22nd, 2008 at 1:09 pmI hope this book comes out i’m done the twilight saga and i am waiting for the movie to come out but i need to read somethign while i’m waiting because no other book interest me anymore
but i realy am sad about this happening i hope that this person apoligizes because i really want this book to come out
and i hope to see more books out i think there should one after breaking dawn because it was so so so good that is my favourite book EVER !!
on October 23rd, 2008 at 7:06 pmOkay, as you are I’m also totally with stephenie that you shouldn’t force your heart to do something you don’t wanna do…but i still think that it’s a bit unfair for those who have always been with her to help her as much as possible. So as she said: “You can’t compare one tree to the entire forest!” What I’m saying is that just because there’s one bad guy in a group of a million people who try to support her she shouldn’t completely stop writing on Midnight Sun…there are still people in the world who believe in her…more than she can comprehend…
on November 9th, 2008 at 12:36 pmOkay… listen everyone. Alot of people are saying that she is “punishing” her readers by not writing the book. They say that she overreacted.
THat is compleatly un true. She says that she just cant write the story to her full potential and would probebly end up “killling off edward and bella.” Like she said creativity doesn’t just come to your mind. She doesn’t just know everything that is ganna happen in the book when she started writing it.
She is only human and i think she handeled the situation extreamly well. She told everyone that Midnight SUn is on hold instead of leaving us in the dark. She has every right to stop righting the book. The reason she rights is entierly for her fans ( though part of it is because of them) she does it because its fun for her. When you r righting a paper about a subject you dont like, you wont do aswell as you would do if you liked the subject
She is not punishing her readers she is putting Midnight sun on hold for herself and to work on other projects. Even if she does not ever finish righting Midnight sun thats okay. She does not HAVE to. As a writer she has no responsibilities for adding on to a project. She completed the The Twilight Saga with Breaking Dawn so the project is tecknecly finished.
I love the twilight series and cant wait to see SM other projects.
on November 20th, 2008 at 5:38 pmi agree, but disagree,
on November 21st, 2008 at 8:36 ami think that if you have a book that everyone is waiting for. you should just go ahead and publish it, and not put the draft up that will make people want to read it even more. yeah its wrong for people to illegally distribute that but still, move onnn. i think midnight sun would be amazing and i think ALOTT of the fans including myself would be BEYOND pleased with its release and the book itself.
Hey everybody! Just a quick note to let you know that in celebration of the movie release I’m giving away the first three books in the Twilight series. Just check this post out to win:

on November 21st, 2008 at 3:40 pmHi…
i think stephanie is right about her rights as an author
however, i think she should finish midnight sun and get it published!
everyone loved edward and for this book to come out is a dream come true i mean people myself included dream about the books and the characters they spend all day thinin about them and now because of a fue stupid people the best book ever will not exist!
:(:(:(:(:(
on November 21st, 2008 at 3:46 pmxxx
I think it is extremely stupid for people to read it before it comes out! Why even bother?!? She might change things in the story, and now none of us will have any idea! Why can’t you be patient and wait?? If she doesn’t finish it,I will be pissed.
on November 23rd, 2008 at 12:43 pmoh i beg of you stephanie meyer to finish writing the book because if you dont i will. your are like the best author ever. please just do this for your fans. i will and i mean will not pick up another book AGAIN if midnight sun does not come.
on November 25th, 2008 at 2:52 pmi’m totally with stephenie, in some ways though, it was wrong for the book to be posted on the net without her consent and all and for sure that truly sucks, no doubt the experience has been ruined for both the readers and for stephenie, but it will be great if she did finish the book for everyone who loves her and her work, coz i know that i do.
on November 27th, 2008 at 7:39 pmI think we should all stop complaining and let stephanie meyer do what she wants. it is her book not yours so everyone grow up. she said in an interview that she will go back to righting it after she finishes a few of her other projects. So we can all wait a couple of years. GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!
on November 28th, 2008 at 12:46 pmStephenie i am with you. It is upsetting that some on steal’s your work and claim that its theirs. We all love your books. And wish you good luck.
