Twilight and Harry Potter Both Change Movie Release Dates!
I can not believe it! I must now wait another NINE MONTHS for the movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to come out!! I am so, so sad! The movie has been changed from November 17, 2008 to July 17th, 2009. According to this article, the date change was a business decision and not a delay in production. Supposedly, that’s the same weekend Dark Knight came out and has better box office potential.
So guess what? As soon as the Twilight movie people got wind of the change, they moved into action. Twilight will now be showing three weeks earlier, moving into the vacant Harry Potter spot (very smart move, if I say so myself). It will now be released on November 17th instead of December 2nd. Incidentally, the Harry Potter people say that the move has nothing to do with Twilight scaring them off (see that article).
Watch both of these movie trailers here.
So good news and bad news. Excited to see Twilight sooner. Very disappointed about Harry Potter. What about you?

I’d say that about covers my feelings exactly. Those crazy movie people.
on August 17th, 2008 at 8:16 pmI am so disappointed that they moved the HP movie so many months back. It feels like we’ve been looking forward to it for a long time now, and it’s even more irritating because I heard that it is completely finished and this is just a marketing decision. Grrr.
Now I’ll have to read the Twilight books so I can get excited about something else!
on August 17th, 2008 at 8:18 pmI feel the same way. Good news about Twilight, sad about HP. Oh, I miss HP.
on August 17th, 2008 at 9:01 pmHappy and disappointed at the same time? Yep, I feel that way too!
on August 18th, 2008 at 6:05 amI believe the Harry Potter people about not being scared of Twilight, I think they have a plenty loyal fan base, many of whom haven’t even read Twilight. I’m very disappointed about them moving the date back, though. I guess I’ll have to find a break in the ARCs to read that copy of Twilight I got from BookMooch before Thanksgiving, though!
on August 18th, 2008 at 8:26 amthis is fantastic!
on August 18th, 2008 at 9:59 amI am mad that Harry Potter is moved to July. That is so long to wait. If it was still in November we would have only 3 weeks to wait for Twilight. It is hardly an equal trade off.
on August 18th, 2008 at 10:19 amhmm. i thought that harry potter was coming out on nov. 21st and got moved to july 19th of 2009 and twilight was coming out dec. 12th and got moved to harry potter’s spot on nov. 21st. oh well. i might just be a wee little bit obssessed. i’ve heard the news. i think it is wonderful! of course i not much of a harry fan. never really got into them. but all the same! i’ll stop rambling now. hopefully some of that made sense. =p
on August 18th, 2008 at 12:51 pmDecember 12th*
on August 18th, 2008 at 1:18 pmHaha, I’m quite disappointed about the Harry Potter incident, but the fact that Twilight is coming out three weeks earlier is definitely overshadowing my disappointment now.
I’m bummed about harry but watching twilight sooner will ease the pain a little bit I suppose. Yeah, you got the dates a little mixed up. Twilight was 12/12 and is now 11/21.
on August 18th, 2008 at 1:25 pmI can’t ’till Twilight! I don’t really care for Harry Potter though.
on August 18th, 2008 at 3:17 pmDo they have to torment us any more??? Give me HP!!
on August 18th, 2008 at 7:33 pmOh man! We already had our midnight party together!! (for HP…haven’t read any of the Meyer books).
on August 18th, 2008 at 7:35 pmWell…I guess someone else pretty much summed it up. Happy….but disappointed. 9 MORE MONTHS? Did they really have to wait that long?
on August 19th, 2008 at 10:44 amRubbish! I heard they did it so that they would make more money during the summer, when school is out.
Absolutely stupid!
IMO: Twilight is a piece of illiterate crap. It has no style to the writing, and provides nothing interesting but stupid characters.
