Junes Book Acquisitions and Bookmarks Magazine Arrival

Seriously, do these books just sneak into the house on their own? It seems that I have no control when finding books for a dollar or less. Bad books! Why do you insist on following me home?  Don’t you know that I have hundreds of other books patiently waiting to be read?

I’m positive, there are others hiding somewhere. On a different note, y Bookmarks magazine also arrived in my home a couple of weeks ago. Normally, I add quite a few books on my TBR, but this time around I only starred two books. I guess nothing caught my eye this time around. Iodine by Haven Kimmel, due out in September, (I have A Girl Named Zippy in my own library, but haven’t read it yet) sounded interesting. The other is The Plague of Doves by Louise Erdrich, an author I’m not familiar with but seems pretty prolific. Not much, perhaps I’ll have better luck next time around.

What books followed you home this month?

  1. I LOVED Me & Emma. It was one of the few books I turned right around and skimmed again.

  2. Ahh yes… the lone, stray books that follow you home like little puppy dogs looking for a bowl of food. My new additions to my book shelves this last month have been “Then We Came To The End” by Joshua Ferris, “Belong To Me” by Marisa de los Santos, “The Last Summer (of you and me)” by Ann Brashares, “The Art of Racing in the Rain” by Garth Stein, “Sail” by James Patterson, and though I am up up for you Stephenie Meyer contest, Books 2 & 3 in the Twilight series. I have another book order to place this weekend with Amazon too so I dno’t see an end to the madness anytime soon. Darn ;)

  3. Oooo, you’ve got some good books there.

I haven’t been to any library sales this month, so I haven’t bought a lot - and my husband is very, very happy. I did, however, order “Love Walked In” because I loved “Belong to Me.” I also ordered “Luncheon of the Boating Party” because I loved Vreeland’s stories in “Life Studies” so much. Hmmm, I see a trend - loving a book causes me to buy more books. Sssh, don’t tell my husband.

  4. What a great assortment! I actually only purchased two books this month but I’m trying to save money where I can with gas being so high.

  5. I noticed A Tree Grows in Brooklyn in your stack–I just bought that book as well and will be reading it for a book club. I have only heard positive reviews, so hopefully we will both enjoy reading it!

  7. Some of those are really good! I enjoyed “Catherine Called Birdy” even though I’d say it’s a slightly lower reading level than Young adult. “The Prince” on the other hand, I read in AP English and I was sure I would hate it. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself enjoying it, and I would go so far as to recommend it!

As for books following me home? I’ve been rather good this month lol. Oh wait. There was a library sale back on 6/7…. Um well I don’t have everything catalogued into my system yet from that trip. I got a bunch of Will Durant’s history books. I couldn’t resist when most of the set was there. I also snagged a couple Daphne DuMaurier books. I can’t remember what else. But yeah, more than I should have gotten!

  8. I noticed you have “Blue Shoes and Happiness.” I own that one, and I thought it was really good. I like that author, especially since the content is clean. I can’t stand reading cuss words every other sentence.

  9. I’ve too many books to list, Natasha! Most of them are either thrillers or fictions. Ah…I see you’ve got Fiction Writer’s Workshop as well! I’ve this book in my pile so I can’t wait to hear your thoughts about it. :)

  10. Oh those books, why do they have to come home with us! I too have Haven Kimmel’s first book, but have yet to read it! I really liked the Kalahari Typing School For Men. I need to figure out where I left off in that series and continue on!

What followed me home? About a bag and a half of books from my library sale! A few amazon orders etc. I was attempting to stop buying books for awhile, looks like that won’t be happening. Maybe I can buy less… *sigh*

  11. I bought many of the books you have pictured used from my library for $1 or less. I would buy just about any book for $1.

  12. Whoa Natasha! Nice haul!

  14. I loved looking at those pictures - so fun to see what I’d read and what I clearly need to read.

  15. Chute! WHAT were those books that followed me home from Borders? OH! Neil Gaiman’s American Gods and… *thinking* GARDEN SPELLS! Phew! When you can’t remember the latest books you bought, you’re in trouble!

  16. Natasha - YOU MUST READ “A GIRL NAMED ZIPPY”! I know what it’s like to have a thousand books on your TBR list, but seriously, that one is one of my favorites. I had the, er, pleasure of reading a good many memiors in school, and this one far outshines them all. Oh, how it will make you laugh! Trust me on this one.

  17. Ha ha! I picked up two bags of books a few Fridays ago even though I’m going to our library sale in a month. I just can’t help my book binge!! I recently picked up A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and hope to read it in the next few weeks for IRL bookclub. Happy reading Natasha!

  18. Hey Natasha, just wanted to let you know that I received Keeper and Kid today in the mail… thanks again for sending it!

  19. I didn’t find much in the current Bookmarks magazine either. Actually, I’m not sure if my tastes have changed or the books they review, but I haven’t found much in the last several issues. Not compared to when I first started received the magazine a couple years ago. *sigh* Oh well. :-)

  20. I loved The Tiger Rising. Very powerful for such a short book.

  21. I did pretty good in June (meaning I only bought a few books). I hit Half Price Books one night and bought 5 books for me and 2 for my son. I also bought 5 or 6 board books for my baby’s birthday.
I received my Bookmarks magazine and eagerly flipped through it but nothing jumped out at me and I have not sat down to go through it more in depth yet. Usually I get it and sit down right away to read through it and mark my picks.
