Another one for the list: "Leave None to Tell the Story: Genocide in Rwanda." It's Human Rights Watch's report on the genocide, and clocking in at 700+ pages, it is the most accurate, detailed account of the genocide available. It was written by Alison Des Forges, one of the premier experts on Rwanda, who tragically died when her commercial flight crashed over Buffalo last month.

Unfortunately, the book has fallen out of print, but it is still available from used booksellers, and Human Rights Watch has the contents up on their website at http://www.hrw.org/legacy/reports/1999/rwanda/ I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to learn about the genocide.

Thank you very much for gathering and sharing such a great list of books and films on this horrendous genocide.

I've just seen the film Shooting Dogs and will higly recommend it to anyone.

There are two books I recently have read, they're not about Rwanda, but are about the civil wars in Sierra Leone and Somalia, and I found them highly interesting, so I'll post them here.

They are - "Infidel" by Ayaan Hirsi Ali
and - "A LONG WAY GONE: MEMOIRS OF A BOY SOLDIER" by Ishmael Beah

I agree with Buddha when he said that ignorance is the worst of the three poisons, desire, hatred and ignorance. And once we know, we must take responsibility for our knowledge.

Just an overwhelming atrocity. You've put together an amazing list here. I've seen the first two movies that you listed, and have Life Laid Bare on the way from a bookmooch.

I'll have to check out a few of these. It's just so amazingly horrible that these things happen. It's hard to believe, and I'm sure that there are tons of people out there that still have no idea about these atrocities. I'm glad you're spreading awareness.

I really wish I had the time to give your descriptions of these books a better look, but I'm jotting down some titles to look further into. I still need to read The Translator, which is still sitting on my shelf. Thanks for these lists--and keeping us informed and aware.

800,000 people in 3 months? That is just heartbreakingly unbelievable. I am going to have to look for some of these titles.
Thanks for putting these lists together.
