I actually came across your blog after having read Mende's tragic story. I was looking up on the web for photos and more information about her and her origins, even using google-earth.
I have read quite a few autobiographies of the extreme and prolonged abuse of muslim women from Africa and Asia. Her suffering told in this book was very painful for me to read and had me weeping on several occasions.
The more people are aware of these stories, hopefully humankind will improve.

Wow i just finished reading this great book Slave of Mente. And it hit home as i am a african myself.

I cannot believe how she could manage to servive all this brutel treatment.

It teaches the rest of the world that still empower slavery that no one has to right to be treated this way and they should free them and that God has created us all equally.
We all deserve to be treated as human begings.

I thank you so much for writing this book some how it made me stronger and gived me more courage to live life to the fullest and thank God for what i have and pray for others which are still in slavery or much more difficult situations than me......
Best regards,
Nusha

Jan - My apologies. Responding to your comment slipped away from me. At the time that I read the book she was still living in Sudan. She had been in contact with her family but it was to dangerous to go back. I haven't heard of Desert Flower before. I'll go look it up right now.

Malaeola - I can't stop reading stories either that are really sad.

Have just finished reading slave, brought in by a pupil when I set them homework to research modern day slavery. Does anyone know what has happened to her since the book?
Has she ever returned to Sudan? The book reminded me of Desert Flower, again a tragic story of modern day slavery that pupils find hard to believe.

Joy - You're welcome!

Sharleen - I know it's just awful!

Chanel - Thank you so much for your thoughts on this book. Isn't it just amazing how different all of our lives are? While I'm nice and safe here others are in danger every day.

Sarah - I'm sorry, I don't have any illustrations. It wasn't illustrated.

Noluthando - Thanks for leaving your comments. They are much appreciated. Her story is indeed a lesson for all of us.

Kendall - I'd love a chance to here her speak as well.

Nicki - Dang you! ;) I can not pass up recommendations and now my TBR list as just increased by three. Thanks!
