My Evening Spent with Stephenie Meyer

Stephenie MeyerLet me tell you something. Stephenie Meyer is one amazing person. I was fortunate to attend a book signing for The Host on Friday night. I volunteered for the event which meant that for two hours prior to start time (people showed up six hours early!) I directed people to the bathroom and rechecked tickets to make sure nobody sneaked in. And during the book signing I made sure that nobody crowded the stage to take photos.

You should have seen it. Women (grown women here, not girls) were dressed up, wearing buttons, sashes, homemade t-shirts and the likes. Afterwards, I heard of many Twilight parties at the nearby hotel. When Stephenie walked on stage, the crowd went wild! It is fun to see authors reach celebrity status. Stephenie spoke for about 30 minutes and answered questions submitted from the audience. I was only halfway through The Host and was sure that she wouldn’t talk about spoilers but I had to plug my ears and hum to myself through several of the questions.

I regret not bringing my video camera so I could transpose her comments but this is what I could remember:

  • On the Twilight movie, Stephenie said that she thinks everybody was cast perfectly and that they are all amazing actors. She’s obviously very excited. Watch the Twilight trailer here.
  • Is that your face on the cover of The Host? What about the hands on the cover of Twilight? Stephenie said, “No, that is some beautiful model. And no, those aren’t my hands either.”
  • On being named one of the Top 100 Most Influential People by Time magazine, Stephenie said that is was very surreal and she still can’t believe it. She’s happy that this year they decided to put everybody on the cover, so now she can say that she’s been on the cover of Time magazine. She wasn’t disappointed to miss the Time magazine party (she already had a book signing event) even when she heard that George Clooney would be there. It wasn’t until she found out that Robert Downey Jr. was there that she was utterly disappointed.
  • What do each of the covers of your book mean? Do you like them? Stephenie really likes The Host cover and was pleased with the way it turned out. Everybody was on the same page from the start. She loves The Twilight cover and for her the apple represents the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge. To partake or not partake? Stephenie hates the cover of New Moon (she doesn’t have any say in book covers) and the flower means absolutely nothing to her. She likes the cover of Eclipse and for her, the ribbon is representative of Bella cutting ties from her past. Book Cover: The Host by Stephenie MeyerBook Cover: Twilight by Stephenie MeyerBook Cover: New Moon by Stephenie MeyerBook Cover: Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer
  • How did you come up with the character Ian? I have to admit that I tried not to listen to anything about The Host, but Stephenie said that Ian wasn’t supposed to be in the story. But once she wrote him in, he began to have a life all his own and she couldn’t stop it.
  • In The Host on page number 200 and something, is that really a reference to Jim and Pam of The Office? Yes! Stephenie LOVES The Office and in fact was just watching it the night before. She’s surprised that anybody even caught the reference.
  • How do you write and be a mom? Stephenie said that she is very fortunate to have a lot of help. Not only does her mom live down the street but her husband is now a stay at home dad (which I’m sure they are more than able to afford and kudos for a parent being at home). Both of her boys are in school now and she doubts that they even notice when she’s gone. When she writes, she can’t close her door because the house will go eerily quiet and she knows something is amiss.
  • Do you have any regrets? Stephenie said that she was missing a kindergarten graduation on this trip (huge sigh from the audience). It’s hard to be away from home while on tour. Also, she said that she is a voracious reader and typically reads 3-4 books a week. The fact that she’s only read ten books this year (which I would love to know what they are) is a huge embarrassment for her.
  • What advice do you have to writers? Stephenie said to write only for yourself! If you are only writing for somebody else then you will never enjoy it. She would still write all of her books even if they weren’t published and nobody read them. Having people actually read them is just the bonus. Visit Writers Market for more help.

Stephenie Meyer Book SigningAfter Stephenie Meyer’s question and answer, she began to sign books. They sold 1,000 tickets and each person could have an unlimited number of The Host signed and personalized, and two books from the Twilight Series. Some people had boxes of books and on average everybody had at least 3-4 books. Not once did she stop smiling or slow down. She started at 7:30 and 4 1/2 hours later she was done! I don’t know how her hand could even hold up. And nobody seemed to be upset at how long they had to wait either.

Stephenie MeyerAnd I was really touched that right when they started they announced that anybody with small children or babies could come up first. Stephenie’s publicist even walked through the crowd to gather up those who didn’t come up in the beginning and escorted them right up. A few hours into the signing, I was able to chat with him and he said that it’s at Stephenie’s request because she knows babies, kids, and mom’s have a hard enough time without having to wait 3-4 hours in line. Nice, nice!

Of course, I brought my Twilight books and three copies of The Host. One for me, one that I’m undecided on what to do with and a library copy (yep, I’m actually returning a library copy signed, the librarians will have a little nice surprise). Because I was ushering, I was told that my books would be collected and Stephenie would sign them prior to her presentation. Of course, mine were forgotten. So I had to wait until the very end of the line (which was okay, because I had to be there anyway).  I was the absolutely LAST one to get my books signed!

Stephenie Meyer's The Host signatureShe was very pleasant and I was able to say hello. I mentioned that I had a blog where I review all the books that I read and that everytime I put up a post about her I get a flood of comments and email (sent through my contact page) from girls who actually think that they are talking to her! So in essence I get a lot of her fan email. She laughed and said, “Just pretend that you’re me, email them back, and tell them that EDWARD DIES!”

It was a fun Friday night.

Stay tuned! My next post is about how on Saturday I spent the day with Shannon Hale, Brandon Mull, Brandon Sanderson, Sara Zarr and more! I’ve got photos to prove it. It was a very bookish weekend.

P.S. Stephenie is a Diet Pepsi drinker just in case you wanted to know.

  1. Thanks for sharing with us. I have THE HOST but have not started it yet. I’m reading the 4th Percy Jackson book first. So looking forward to BREAKING DAWN when it comes out in August. Ms. Meyer seems like a very genuine person and an extremely nice one. Again, thanks for sharing your experience, Natasha!

  3. Ok, I have to admit - I haven’t read any of Stephanie Meyer’s books yet. But I saw your comment about spending the day with Brandon Sanderson (among others) and I can’t WAIT to hear about it!!! I’m dying for any Wheel of Time news!!!

  5. What a cool event! She sounds really down to earth and gracious. Were you taking notes or do you just have an amazing memory?

  6. How nice to read! I have to admit I haven’t read a thing by her, just can’t seem to make myself do it. I did buy Twilight, but then gave it to my daughter (who is now addicted to her books). She really does sound like a great lady!

  7. Sounds like it was fun. I have a friend who went to the other book signing in this area and she said it was fun. She’s really loves the books and even said to her husband once, “Why couldn’t you be a vampire?!”

  8. Sounds like you have a great time! Isn’t it wonderful when authors we like turn out to be really nice people as well?

I really look forward to hear about your meeting with Shannon Hale!

  13. You are so lucky to have the opportunity to do this!!!! I would love to host a book signing, but who wants to come to Roanoke, VA???? ;)

I will have to check her books out. I don’t typically read that genre, but new is fun. I won’t hold her Diet Pepsi habit against her…

  16. Kay - I’m halfway through The Host right now. I set it down for a couple of days but hope to get back into it right away.

Jeanette, Heather, and Debi - I think they are worth a try. They’re not for everybody but you’ll never know.

Becky - It was a very bookish weekend. Busy though.

Lisamm - Apparently I have an amazing memory! ;)

Kim - She did a signing on Friday and another on Saturday. I still think about her poor hand.

Nymeth - She was really nice.

Kathleen - The Host just reached #1 on the NY Times bestseller list. She must be excited.

Tracy - Thanks! I’ll be making my way over to your blog and adding your feed to my reader.

Jane - Thanks. I wish she had mentioned the books as well. I’m always curious as to what authors are reading.

    J. Kaye - It was a wow night!

Jennifer - Stephenie went to school here, that’s why we were so lucky to have not one but two book signings in our area.

Stephanie - I thought the mom’s who brought their kids were crazy for doing so, but it worked out in the end. It ended up saving them hours in line.

I was emailed some other photos. I wasn’t able to get a good one while she was on stage. So I’ll post them here.

  18. That’s pretty funny when she told you to tell the girls that Edward dies…I think if someone told me that I would have a heart attack…even if they were joking xD

    Maggie - Edward dies!!

  20. I’ve bought Twilight but haven’t started it yet. I was really looking forward to it until…until I read an article in Time magazine where someone asks her about one of the guys (is it Edward?) and how she expected him to be invited into the main character’s bed of all places and not try anything funny. And her response? Because he’s perfect. For some reason that just rubbed me the wrong way. Perfect characters are boring and annoying.

  23. I’ve always wondered why authors don’t have someone transposing the questions they receive at this Q&As so they can later post them on their site. It would make a lot of sense in my mind.

I’m glad that she is so nice in person. Although I think that crowd she received would scare me away for right now. ;)

  24. Cool interview - thanks for the pictures. I really wish that I could go to one of these signings.

  26. Thanks from me also! Could never go! I love reading about peoples trips to see her and trips to the set of the Twilight movie. I loved The Host it was Great!

  27. Ok, how have I missed this author? I “thought” I was a voracious reader and then all these great books by this interesting author pop up…thank goodness for your giveaway!!!!

  28. “In The Host on page number 200 and something, is that really a reference to Jim and Pam of The Office? ”
I’m confused about what that is. Ha Ha. then again, I was reading this book 24 hours a day, and it was probably when I was up at 4 in the morning…

Anyways, I didn’t know she was a big reader (or used to be!). That’s interesting.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:00 am
  29. Wow, she hated the cover for New Moon? I think the flower is beautiful, and as a graphics geek, I love it, but I had always wondered why that one was used since it doesn’t seem to have any significance for the books. I guess I’m not the only one. :-)

Stephenie seems so nice. I wish I could meet her.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:00 am
  30. I went to an Eclipse tour signing in PA last year and it was insane! I was like the second in line, behind a group of like four other kids, so I guess fifth if you dont count them as one :-p She is soo nice, and she even advised me on how to treat the sunburn that I got for sitting in the sun for a good 5-6 hours :-D

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:07 am
  31. I did not know that the Ian character in the host was not originally supposed to be in the book but he kind of found his way into it hahaha. That was awesome!

  32. I’m am so impressed with Stephenie Meyers after reading this post (and talking to you about it). She sounds like an amazing cool person all around. I’m so glad you were able to go to this. Her comments on the covers were interesting. I love that you got the library copy signed. Such a cool idea!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:26 am
  33. I can’t believe that Ian was not supposed to be in the book. He fits so well into the story. And i can’t believe that even after everything she does…she finds time to read.

  34. I wish I could meet Stephanie somehow, she sounds really nice. What she said about telling people Edward dies was funny.

  35. Wow! You’re so lucky you met and talked to her! I’m envious =] That’s so nice that you’re giving the library a signed copy.

Haha the New Moon cover makes me laugh now that I know that Stephenie hates it and it has nothing to do with the book whatsoever xD

  38. I found your blog because of your Contest taht was adverstised on the Twilight Lexicon. So I came on over to see what the Buzz was all about.
    I love your commentary.
But I just have to ask about your take on those grown women in sashes and buttons and stuff. Did you find it appropriate/inappropriate, over-the-top craziness, or just plain fun?
You don’t need to enter me in your contest I already own two copies of everything published with Stephenie Meyer’s name. I just wanted to come and give your blog some attention.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:54 am
  39. LOL…I think we were at the same signing! The pictures look so familiar! Were you at the May 16th signing?

    on June 16th, 2008 at 9:04 am
  40. I would love to have an autograph from Stephenie Meyer in my book. This may sound like is a lie but i am being totally honest. I would never ask a movie actor, singer, athelete for a autograph just an author. This is because any of those artists can never do what an author can do she/he take you in a trip to whatever she/he wants by just reading. I envy you in the good way for being able to attend her book-signing…
Please enter me to win the contest!!!

  42. I would love to have anything signed by an author. With authors, you know they earned their fame. Movie stars and such not so much.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 9:08 am
  43. Thanks for sharing your signing story.

I really hope, in the future, Mrs. Meyer will come to a location near me so I can meet her and have her sign my books. In every account I have read, she always seems so genuinely nice and sincere and amazed that her books are that huge. Plus, we fans always learn something new about the books at these question and answer sessions. Although I did “Aw” when I read that she had to miss her child’s kindergarten trip. =(

Who did you talk to about volunteering for an event like this? I’d love to do something like that.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 9:08 am
  44. You are so lucky to have met her!! She sounds like a really down-to-earth person!

  45. I really wish I could have been to one of the signing but no… I was stuck home watching them pop up on the lexicon and then reading the Q&A. Thanks for posting them for us. I think that you are really really lucky to have met Stephenie. I would love to get my books signed but i might be a little embarresed at the sight of them. I have read and re-read them so may times they have fallen to peices. (UH-OH) Ian is my favorite character and I was surprised to see that he wasn’t suposed to be anything at all or just Kile’s right hand guy.

  46. haha!–i love stephenie!
i was at her Kansas City tour. The beginning was a little bit wild and cameras were flashing nonstop im surprised she wasnt blinded! regardless she greeted the crowd with nothing but smiles and nervousness. she said she was hyperventilating as she was about to make her debut. Stephenie was really funny and knew how to capture her crowd (i mean she IS stephenie meyer, creator of Edward Cullen, she didnt have to try very hard–but was amazing none the less)Steph read a short excerpt from the Host and then it was off to signing the 3000+ books. i had about 700 people in front of me in line and they called up groups of 25 at a time to wait in line due to fire hazards. finally they called my number range and my 5 other friends joined me, but when i was just a couple feet from her I started to be the one hyperventilating! I talked to her for a little bit (we only had so long) and i gave her my twilight bag that each of my friends also had. we had each made our own unique bags that had our favorite quotes from the books and funny inside jokes and mine looked the best so of course it was the one that had the honor of becoming stephenie meyer’s new bag. my friends and i each wrote a letter to her and placed it in the inside of my bag to give to her, hoping that she would read them in her busy schedule. after we got finished with our signings and were out of the building i was still in shock! I MET STEPHENIE MEYER! WOW! and i came out of the signing with a lot of knowledge. One of which being that “[I] have the coolest name in the world” and you wanna know why?… because stephenie said so.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 9:43 am
  47. Your so lucky. I wish i could have gone to a signing. I live in Colorado so i was going to go the Denver one but my mom said it was on a school day and we didnt have enough time to drive there. I thought seriously about skipping school to go..but decided i would get a chance to see her. I really wish the Breaking Dawn signing was closer to me. That would be a great thing to see. I will eventually get my chance to meet my hero stephenie, otherwise ill just stick with reading about all of them. :)

  48. “She wasn’t disappointed to miss the Time magazine party (she already had a book signing event) even when she heard that George Clooney would be there”

But George Clooney was the original Batman! :O

“Stephenie said to write only for yourself! If you are only writing for somebody else then you will never enjoy it. She would still write all of her books even if they weren’t published and nobody read them.”

This is something I would like to tell all the haters! The Anti-Twilighters are so annoying with their “it’s not even written that well.” Well, SM wrote it for herself and didn’t think that it would be published. I love the books and have reread them so many times I can remember certain lines! :D

Anyway I really liked your article, I had know idea Stephanie hated the cover of New Moon. I also didn’t know that parents with little kids and babies could go first at a book signing. This article really helped me get to know her a bit more. Thankyou for writing it.

  56. hey! i believe that was the signing in slc, was it not? well, i went the saturday one, but still! in the same city!! yay!
anyway, stephenie was so nice! shes so down to earth. you could totally tell that she did her own hair and makeup, so that was a plus for me. it meant that she wasn’t so deep into this that she other people do everything for her. she still lives a half-way normal life. it was great meeting her! :)

  57. Wow, Stephenie sounds like she’s really nice in person. You are so lucky you got to meet her. I think I’m going to her New York City signing for Breaking Dawn and I’m so excited. I had no idea she hated the New Moon cover though. Of course, I think the flower is pretty, but it never held any real meaning for me either. I like her explanations of the other covers though.

  58. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PUTTING THIS UP! I have yet to attend a book signing for Stephenie Meyer because I live in a small town where my parents work a lot, so I love it when people post things about signing experiences! It makes me feel like I was there! Stephenie Meyer has down a phenomenal job as an author and as my hero! It sounds like you had a wonderful time!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 10:40 am
  59. Haha, I love how Stephenie put Pam and Jim from The Office in The Host! That is my favorite show ever, and it makes it even more awesome to know that my favorite author is a huge fan of it as well.
It’s interesting that Ian was never supposed to be in The Host. He’s a central character in the novel for me, so that’s weird to hear.
You’re so lucky you got to go to a book signing. I might be able to go to the New York signing for her Breaking Dawn tour, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed about that!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 10:55 am
  60. hehe you are SO lucky! SM sounds funny! Wish I could meet her. Maybe on her SMALL Breaking Dawn tour…:P

  61. I only wish that she had been able to come close to Kentucky (or at least, close to me, ’cause Louisville isn’t that close to me).

I did learn that she’s a fan of The Office. I really don’t know how anyone can like that, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

And I can’t believe that Ian wasn’t supposed to be in the book. Ian’s my fave character!

  63. I got to meet Stephenie too at her Eclipse signing in Burlington, MA. She is such a nice person! My friend had written a note for her because she couldn’t go, and I gave it to Stephenie and told her how I had gotten my friend a book as a surprise and she was like “She owes you!” I love the “Tell everyone EDWARD DIES!!” thing, that would be so funny! If Edward dies I would freak out, though.

  64. I thought that it was funny that SM uses the Office references in The Host. The Office is awesome!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:30 am
  65. Sounds like an awesome time. Stephenie really is a sweetheart, I was fortunate enough to go to two of her signings. The difference between them was astronomical. One year she had a small fan base (New Moon signing), and the next, WOAH. 700 fans inside a huge Barnes & Noble. ‘Twas amazing.

Unfortunately she didn’t come anywhere near me for The Host. But I’m making the journey up to NYC for her Breaking Dawn hybrid event!

  66. lol about the email! sounds like a fun day. She really is great. =) I love Ian by the way, my fave character in the book, no surprise.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:30 am
  67. I unfortunately didn’t get to make it to a signing.

You are so lucky you did! Thanks for filling us in on all of the stuff going on at the signing!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:31 am
  68. lucky!! im glad you got to go to one of her book signings!! i didnt get to go, but im sure u had an awsome time!! thanks for the uptdate! :]

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:32 am
  69. i am SO jealous. i was going to go to a signing, but then i couldnt at the last minute. grr. i was so angry. but maybe i’ll get to go to the next tour thing…she stops by LA!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:32 am
  70. I actully didn’t know Stephenie hated the New Moon cover. I thought it was kind of prettu

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:35 am
  71. I loved going to her book signing when she came to Utah!! It was awesome hearing her talk about the books and I was able to get all my books signed…including the Twilight series and The Host!!! One thing I learned was that she dosen’t even design the covers. Someone just pics them out and she has to accept them whether she likes them or not. She also said that she didn’t like the New Moon cover and that it had no meaning (don’t quote me exactly, but I know what my ears heard) I can’t wait ’til she comes to Utah with her next book!!!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:40 am
  72. I like the fact that Steph is still so down-to-earth and humble despite her fame. She has inspired me to start writing my own books. Go Steph!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:45 am
  73. I live in Canada so there wasn’t a book signing near me :( But everything she said was really great. She really loves her characters so much and cares for them. But The Host without Ian? What? That wouldn’t be any good- the ending would be horribly sad and lonely without him. She’s so humble, sweet, and kind.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:48 am
  74. Wow I’m jealous now. I really want to go to an event like this but I can’t. I have the worst luck too since I thought I would be going to the breaking dawn book signing and found out I would be on vacation during that time. =(

I didn’t know Stephenie didn’t like the cover of New Moon. It’s too bad because she puts so much effort into writing the books and yet she has no say in picking the cover. What a shame. I loved your article because it makes me feel like I was there, even though I wasn’t.

(And BTW I would like to be entered in the draw please. :) )

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:49 am
  75. Thanks for putting the signing up here for us. I am never able to go to anyhting of Stephenie’s sadly. It is very nice to know what Stephenie thinks. I love Stephenie Meyer and all her books!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:49 am
  76. It’s a shame that New Moon breaks the streak of meaningful covers. I will always wonder what she would have chosen if she’d had the option…

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:56 am
  77. I really wish I could have gone ‘cuz I ADORE Stephenie and all her work and it would have been AMAZING to meet her!!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:59 am
  78. Oh my gosh I didn’t know that Stephenie wasn’t going to include Ian in the host. thats surprising!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
  79. Oh my gosh, I went to an Eclipse signing back in September, and it was awesome! When I met Stephenie I was like SOOO unable to frame a coherent thought! I felt like Bella when she was talking to Edward! Of course, my friend and her mom (who was acting as my mom because otherwise we would have been separated ;) ) reacted perfectly fine, and at the moment I had such a natural high that I barely noticed, but afterwards, I was, of course, embarrassed.

I like to admire the signature sometimes :) I’m so obsessed.

    P.S. I like your P.S. ;)

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
  80. I will i could have gone. There was none that were by me!!

That would have been one of the most amazing events in my life; (never to be forgotten) =D

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
  81. I went to an Eclipse tour and saw her last summer. It was amazing!!! She is so cool and inspiring!! Standing in front of her, I swear I almost fainted. I’m in pics on her website too!!

It was cool, because she said she loved the song “Hysteria” by muse, which I currently had on my I-pod!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
  82. Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I never understood the cover for New Moon, and I’m glad you cleared up that she doesn’t like it either. Haha.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
  83. Thank you for sharing your experience. Large events like this don’t usually come where I live, so I have to live vicariously through others. LOL! I always enjoy reading about her book signings. :-)

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
  84. Edward dies!? I think fangirls around the world would break down sobbing if they heard such a thing! That’s really cool that you got to talk to her. I went to a book signing, but I was so tired by the time that I got to get my books signed, that I didn’t really say much (being awe-struck that I got to meet my favorite author had nothing to do with it, of course). And I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one who questioned the New Moon cover.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
  85. That’s awesome. I went to a Twilight signing last year and was amazed at how nice and down-to-earth Stephenie is. I also love her comment about Edward dying. There would be mass depression among teenage girls if that happened.
And yes, I do think the librarian will be surprised when they realize that they got a book back signed!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
  86. Well meeting my idol sure went down as a main event in my book. Stephenie is amazing and she really is a sweet person. Meeting her was one of the best things that ever happened to me, not to mention that I got all 4 of her books signed :) She is an awesome person who i cant wait to read more of.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
  87. Omg wish I was there. I wish i could’ve been at the comic-con too, but when you live in a small Forks like town you don’t get much transportation to the big places =[ Thank you by the way for the written answers because i tries to listen to a video someone made but i really couldn’t understand it. Stephenie is so considerate it doesn’t suprise me at all that she was so kimd and brought the kids up first. Her signature is well 1. big and 2. pretty cool i can understand who it is but its not at all plain. Gosh I wish I could meet he. I wondered where the rumors of Edward Cullen dying came from..Natasha?

    on June 16th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
  88. I wish I could have gone one of the signings for The Host. I am planing to go to one of the Breaking Dawn signings though in New York and maybe Stephenie talk about The Host there. =]

    on June 16th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
  89. Another entry. I really enjoyed reading about the signing. I admire her even more after learning that she allows those attending with children to have their books signed first. Smart and thoughtful, what a great combination.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
  90. Okay, I totally got the Jim/Pam reference in The Host and I am so happy Stephenie is and Office fan, because I am too. I didn’t go to any of the signings, but I am glad that I got to read so many reports of them. I love Ian, and am so glad Stephenie included him. I love the fact that Stephanie invited all people with babies up first. As a mom, that would have been a big bonus. She is so awesome. It feels like I know her, better than any other author anyway.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
  91. Oh so lucky! I hope I can go to the Breaking Dawn signings! I love the Office too! I definetly have to look out for that refrence in the book! :)

    on June 16th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
  92. OMC that would be so mean to tell someone Edward dies pretending you were Stephenie. The world would have a huge depression problem.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
  93. i wish i could have gone!! my friend went and said it was so cool!! she sounds very nice. :)

    on June 16th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
  94. How exciting. I would have loved to be able to attend a book signing. I think the comment about telling everyone that Edward dies is funny. Just posting that here seems to have everyone jumpy :) Well ~I~ think it’s funny anyways.

  96. i love how stephenie loves all of her fans the way she does.
she is just an absolutely amazing person.
i personally think she should have been #1 on the Time Top 100 Influential People.
i went to one event of her Eclipse Tour last year, and just like this event, tons of people showed up, and she was signing books all night.
she didn’t stop smiling then either. (:

  97. Oh! I would LOVE to enter the giveaway contest! I havent actually been to Stephenie Meyer’s book signing, but i wish i could!!! I love the Twilight saga. Stephenie is a huge inspiration to many people around the world! She is my favorite author!!!! I don’t thin kthat anyone could write a book as good as Twilight! I dont think..I KNOW! I hope to read The Host soon, I’m still reading the Twilight series for the second time. I can’t wait for Breaking Dawn OR Midnight Sun, they both will be awesome books! I think Jacob and Edward are both great! No matter what anyone says! I am on both teams. I have the Team Jacob and Team Edward shirts from the Eclipse special edition :)
Well, i have to go read, i’m almost finished reading them for the second time!
Can’t wait for the movie either!
(To be entered into giveaway pleaseeee! )

  98. wow, that must have been AMAAAZING to meet her! I went to one of her Eclipse signings and Q&A but she didn’t come anywhere near me for the Host tour, so I’m glad that you posted up a transcript!
I’ve been reading most of the Host interviews, so I think I knew everything that you put except about the Jim and Pam reference- what reference is that, I need to go back and read it again! (I flew through the Host, lol, I don’t know if I would have noticed Bella and Edward being there even!) And I love that Ian just evolved into his own person- I feel like Stephenie does that a lot and it really works because she put in more emotion and personality to the character.

  100. Ahh…She is such an amazing woman. I really do love her because she is so great to her fans and really cares about us. When she came down to Seattle last summer I was there and this August she is coming as well. I will also be there. When I met her she was absolutely lovely. One of the best days of my life because how many people can say that they have met their favorite author of all time?? Not many. =) I’m glad that I’m one of the few.

    Another entry please. =)

    on June 16th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
  101. I would love to have met her. There was a signing in San Diego, but it was during school hours, so I couldn’t go. Sad. She seems like a good person and an amazing writer. You are so lucky to have met her. I’m jealous.
