My Evening Spent with Stephenie Meyer

Stephenie MeyerLet me tell you something. Stephenie Meyer is one amazing person. I was fortunate to attend a book signing for The Host on Friday night. I volunteered for the event which meant that for two hours prior to start time (people showed up six hours early!) I directed people to the bathroom and rechecked tickets to make sure nobody sneaked in. And during the book signing I made sure that nobody crowded the stage to take photos.

You should have seen it. Women (grown women here, not girls) were dressed up, wearing buttons, sashes, homemade t-shirts and the likes. Afterwards, I heard of many Twilight parties at the nearby hotel. When Stephenie walked on stage, the crowd went wild! It is fun to see authors reach celebrity status. Stephenie spoke for about 30 minutes and answered questions submitted from the audience. I was only halfway through The Host and was sure that she wouldn’t talk about spoilers but I had to plug my ears and hum to myself through several of the questions.

I regret not bringing my video camera so I could transpose her comments but this is what I could remember:

  • On the Twilight movie, Stephenie said that she thinks everybody was cast perfectly and that they are all amazing actors. She’s obviously very excited. Watch the Twilight trailer here.
  • Is that your face on the cover of The Host? What about the hands on the cover of Twilight? Stephenie said, “No, that is some beautiful model. And no, those aren’t my hands either.”
  • On being named one of the Top 100 Most Influential People by Time magazine, Stephenie said that is was very surreal and she still can’t believe it. She’s happy that this year they decided to put everybody on the cover, so now she can say that she’s been on the cover of Time magazine. She wasn’t disappointed to miss the Time magazine party (she already had a book signing event) even when she heard that George Clooney would be there. It wasn’t until she found out that Robert Downey Jr. was there that she was utterly disappointed.
  • What do each of the covers of your book mean? Do you like them? Stephenie really likes The Host cover and was pleased with the way it turned out. Everybody was on the same page from the start. She loves The Twilight cover and for her the apple represents the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge. To partake or not partake? Stephenie hates the cover of New Moon (she doesn’t have any say in book covers) and the flower means absolutely nothing to her. She likes the cover of Eclipse and for her, the ribbon is representative of Bella cutting ties from her past. Book Cover: The Host by Stephenie MeyerBook Cover: Twilight by Stephenie MeyerBook Cover: New Moon by Stephenie MeyerBook Cover: Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer
  • How did you come up with the character Ian? I have to admit that I tried not to listen to anything about The Host, but Stephenie said that Ian wasn’t supposed to be in the story. But once she wrote him in, he began to have a life all his own and she couldn’t stop it.
  • In The Host on page number 200 and something, is that really a reference to Jim and Pam of The Office? Yes! Stephenie LOVES The Office and in fact was just watching it the night before. She’s surprised that anybody even caught the reference.
  • How do you write and be a mom? Stephenie said that she is very fortunate to have a lot of help. Not only does her mom live down the street but her husband is now a stay at home dad (which I’m sure they are more than able to afford and kudos for a parent being at home). Both of her boys are in school now and she doubts that they even notice when she’s gone. When she writes, she can’t close her door because the house will go eerily quiet and she knows something is amiss.
  • Do you have any regrets? Stephenie said that she was missing a kindergarten graduation on this trip (huge sigh from the audience). It’s hard to be away from home while on tour. Also, she said that she is a voracious reader and typically reads 3-4 books a week. The fact that she’s only read ten books this year (which I would love to know what they are) is a huge embarrassment for her.
  • What advice do you have to writers? Stephenie said to write only for yourself! If you are only writing for somebody else then you will never enjoy it. She would still write all of her books even if they weren’t published and nobody read them. Having people actually read them is just the bonus. Visit Writers Market for more help.

Stephenie Meyer Book SigningAfter Stephenie Meyer’s question and answer, she began to sign books. They sold 1,000 tickets and each person could have an unlimited number of The Host signed and personalized, and two books from the Twilight Series. Some people had boxes of books and on average everybody had at least 3-4 books. Not once did she stop smiling or slow down. She started at 7:30 and 4 1/2 hours later she was done! I don’t know how her hand could even hold up. And nobody seemed to be upset at how long they had to wait either.

Stephenie MeyerAnd I was really touched that right when they started they announced that anybody with small children or babies could come up first. Stephenie’s publicist even walked through the crowd to gather up those who didn’t come up in the beginning and escorted them right up. A few hours into the signing, I was able to chat with him and he said that it’s at Stephenie’s request because she knows babies, kids, and mom’s have a hard enough time without having to wait 3-4 hours in line. Nice, nice!

Of course, I brought my Twilight books and three copies of The Host. One for me, one that I’m undecided on what to do with and a library copy (yep, I’m actually returning a library copy signed, the librarians will have a little nice surprise). Because I was ushering, I was told that my books would be collected and Stephenie would sign them prior to her presentation. Of course, mine were forgotten. So I had to wait until the very end of the line (which was okay, because I had to be there anyway).  I was the absolutely LAST one to get my books signed!

Stephenie Meyer's The Host signatureShe was very pleasant and I was able to say hello. I mentioned that I had a blog where I review all the books that I read and that everytime I put up a post about her I get a flood of comments and email (sent through my contact page) from girls who actually think that they are talking to her! So in essence I get a lot of her fan email. She laughed and said, “Just pretend that you’re me, email them back, and tell them that EDWARD DIES!”

It was a fun Friday night.

Stay tuned! My next post is about how on Saturday I spent the day with Shannon Hale, Brandon Mull, Brandon Sanderson, Sara Zarr and more! I’ve got photos to prove it. It was a very bookish weekend.

P.S. Stephenie is a Diet Pepsi drinker just in case you wanted to know.

Hey you! Yes. You! I've noticed that you've stopped by to visit a few times! But I don't know who you are. Why don't you take a moment and introduce yourself. Don't be scared. I try not to bite. I know you're a lurker but I'd love to hear your thoughts about what's been bringing you here. And if you haven't done so already, don't forget to never miss a post by subscribing to my feed or receiving updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

  1. Thanks for sharing with us. I have THE HOST but have not started it yet. I’m reading the 4th Percy Jackson book first. So looking forward to BREAKING DAWN when it comes out in August. Ms. Meyer seems like a very genuine person and an extremely nice one. Again, thanks for sharing your experience, Natasha!

  3. Ok, I have to admit – I haven’t read any of Stephanie Meyer’s books yet. But I saw your comment about spending the day with Brandon Sanderson (among others) and I can’t WAIT to hear about it!!! I’m dying for any Wheel of Time news!!!

  5. What a cool event! She sounds really down to earth and gracious. Were you taking notes or do you just have an amazing memory?

  6. How nice to read! I have to admit I haven’t read a thing by her, just can’t seem to make myself do it. I did buy Twilight, but then gave it to my daughter (who is now addicted to her books). She really does sound like a great lady!

  7. Sounds like it was fun. I have a friend who went to the other book signing in this area and she said it was fun. She’s really loves the books and even said to her husband once, “Why couldn’t you be a vampire?!”

  8. Sounds like you have a great time! Isn’t it wonderful when authors we like turn out to be really nice people as well?

I really look forward to hear about your meeting with Shannon Hale!

  13. You are so lucky to have the opportunity to do this!!!! I would love to host a book signing, but who wants to come to Roanoke, VA???? ;)

I will have to check her books out. I don’t typically read that genre, but new is fun. I won’t hold her Diet Pepsi habit against her…

  16. Kay – I’m halfway through The Host right now. I set it down for a couple of days but hope to get back into it right away.

Jeanette, Heather, and Debi – I think they are worth a try. They’re not for everybody but you’ll never know.

Becky – It was a very bookish weekend. Busy though.

Lisamm – Apparently I have an amazing memory! ;)

Kim – She did a signing on Friday and another on Saturday. I still think about her poor hand.

Nymeth – She was really nice.

Kathleen – The Host just reached #1 on the NY Times bestseller list. She must be excited.

Tracy – Thanks! I’ll be making my way over to your blog and adding your feed to my reader.

Jane – Thanks. I wish she had mentioned the books as well. I’m always curious as to what authors are reading.

    J. Kaye – It was a wow night!

Jennifer – Stephenie went to school here, that’s why we were so lucky to have not one but two book signings in our area.

Stephanie – I thought the mom’s who brought their kids were crazy for doing so, but it worked out in the end. It ended up saving them hours in line.

I was emailed some other photos. I wasn’t able to get a good one while she was on stage. So I’ll post them here.

  17. This looks like a completely amazing evening! I haven’t even read any of her books, but I just felt all the excitement of her visit through your words. Wow! (Reminds me of when I went to see Nigella Lawson – I couldn’t even speak!)

  18. That’s pretty funny when she told you to tell the girls that Edward dies…I think if someone told me that I would have a heart attack…even if they were joking xD

  19. Tara – Eeek. I’ve never heard of Nigella Lawson, must now go look up.

    Maggie – Edward dies!!

  20. I’ve bought Twilight but haven’t started it yet. I was really looking forward to it until…until I read an article in Time magazine where someone asks her about one of the guys (is it Edward?) and how she expected him to be invited into the main character’s bed of all places and not try anything funny. And her response? Because he’s perfect. For some reason that just rubbed me the wrong way. Perfect characters are boring and annoying.

  23. I’ve always wondered why authors don’t have someone transposing the questions they receive at this Q&As so they can later post them on their site. It would make a lot of sense in my mind.

I’m glad that she is so nice in person. Although I think that crowd she received would scare me away for right now. ;)

  24. Cool interview – thanks for the pictures. I really wish that I could go to one of these signings.

  26. Thanks from me also! Could never go! I love reading about peoples trips to see her and trips to the set of the Twilight movie. I loved The Host it was Great!

  27. Ok, how have I missed this author? I “thought” I was a voracious reader and then all these great books by this interesting author pop up…thank goodness for your giveaway!!!!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 7:56 am
  28. “In The Host on page number 200 and something, is that really a reference to Jim and Pam of The Office? ”
I’m confused about what that is. Ha Ha. then again, I was reading this book 24 hours a day, and it was probably when I was up at 4 in the morning…

Anyways, I didn’t know she was a big reader (or used to be!). That’s interesting.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:00 am
  29. Wow, she hated the cover for New Moon? I think the flower is beautiful, and as a graphics geek, I love it, but I had always wondered why that one was used since it doesn’t seem to have any significance for the books. I guess I’m not the only one. :-)

Stephenie seems so nice. I wish I could meet her.

  30. I went to an Eclipse tour signing in PA last year and it was insane! I was like the second in line, behind a group of like four other kids, so I guess fifth if you dont count them as one :-p She is soo nice, and she even advised me on how to treat the sunburn that I got for sitting in the sun for a good 5-6 hours :-D

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:07 am
  31. I did not know that the Ian character in the host was not originally supposed to be in the book but he kind of found his way into it hahaha. That was awesome!

  32. I’m am so impressed with Stephenie Meyers after reading this post (and talking to you about it). She sounds like an amazing cool person all around. I’m so glad you were able to go to this. Her comments on the covers were interesting. I love that you got the library copy signed. Such a cool idea!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:26 am
  33. I can’t believe that Ian was not supposed to be in the book. He fits so well into the story. And i can’t believe that even after everything she does…she finds time to read.

  34. I wish I could meet Stephanie somehow, she sounds really nice. What she said about telling people Edward dies was funny.

  35. Wow! You’re so lucky you met and talked to her! I’m envious =] That’s so nice that you’re giving the library a signed copy.

Haha the New Moon cover makes me laugh now that I know that Stephenie hates it and it has nothing to do with the book whatsoever xD

  36. I love Stephenie Meyer! She seems like such a down to earth and easygoing person. I love The Office too!

  38. I found your blog because of your Contest taht was adverstised on the Twilight Lexicon. So I came on over to see what the Buzz was all about.
    I love your commentary.
But I just have to ask about your take on those grown women in sashes and buttons and stuff. Did you find it appropriate/inappropriate, over-the-top craziness, or just plain fun?
You don’t need to enter me in your contest I already own two copies of everything published with Stephenie Meyer’s name. I just wanted to come and give your blog some attention.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:54 am
  39. LOL…I think we were at the same signing! The pictures look so familiar! Were you at the May 16th signing?

  40. I would love to have an autograph from Stephenie Meyer in my book. This may sound like is a lie but i am being totally honest. I would never ask a movie actor, singer, athelete for a autograph just an author. This is because any of those artists can never do what an author can do she/he take you in a trip to whatever she/he wants by just reading. I envy you in the good way for being able to attend her book-signing…
Please enter me to win the contest!!!

  42. I would love to have anything signed by an author. With authors, you know they earned their fame. Movie stars and such not so much.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 9:08 am
  43. Thanks for sharing your signing story.

I really hope, in the future, Mrs. Meyer will come to a location near me so I can meet her and have her sign my books. In every account I have read, she always seems so genuinely nice and sincere and amazed that her books are that huge. Plus, we fans always learn something new about the books at these question and answer sessions. Although I did “Aw” when I read that she had to miss her child’s kindergarten trip. =(

Who did you talk to about volunteering for an event like this? I’d love to do something like that.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 9:08 am
  44. You are so lucky to have met her!! She sounds like a really down-to-earth person!

  45. I really wish I could have been to one of the signing but no… I was stuck home watching them pop up on the lexicon and then reading the Q&A. Thanks for posting them for us. I think that you are really really lucky to have met Stephenie. I would love to get my books signed but i might be a little embarresed at the sight of them. I have read and re-read them so may times they have fallen to peices. (UH-OH) Ian is my favorite character and I was surprised to see that he wasn’t suposed to be anything at all or just Kile’s right hand guy.

  46. haha!–i love stephenie!
i was at her Kansas City tour. The beginning was a little bit wild and cameras were flashing nonstop im surprised she wasnt blinded! regardless she greeted the crowd with nothing but smiles and nervousness. she said she was hyperventilating as she was about to make her debut. Stephenie was really funny and knew how to capture her crowd (i mean she IS stephenie meyer, creator of Edward Cullen, she didnt have to try very hard–but was amazing none the less)Steph read a short excerpt from the Host and then it was off to signing the 3000+ books. i had about 700 people in front of me in line and they called up groups of 25 at a time to wait in line due to fire hazards. finally they called my number range and my 5 other friends joined me, but when i was just a couple feet from her I started to be the one hyperventilating! I talked to her for a little bit (we only had so long) and i gave her my twilight bag that each of my friends also had. we had each made our own unique bags that had our favorite quotes from the books and funny inside jokes and mine looked the best so of course it was the one that had the honor of becoming stephenie meyer’s new bag. my friends and i each wrote a letter to her and placed it in the inside of my bag to give to her, hoping that she would read them in her busy schedule. after we got finished with our signings and were out of the building i was still in shock! I MET STEPHENIE MEYER! WOW! and i came out of the signing with a lot of knowledge. One of which being that “[I] have the coolest name in the world” and you wanna know why?… because stephenie said so.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 9:43 am
  47. Your so lucky. I wish i could have gone to a signing. I live in Colorado so i was going to go the Denver one but my mom said it was on a school day and we didnt have enough time to drive there. I thought seriously about skipping school to go..but decided i would get a chance to see her. I really wish the Breaking Dawn signing was closer to me. That would be a great thing to see. I will eventually get my chance to meet my hero stephenie, otherwise ill just stick with reading about all of them. :)

  48. “She wasn’t disappointed to miss the Time magazine party (she already had a book signing event) even when she heard that George Clooney would be there”

But George Clooney was the original Batman! :O

“Stephenie said to write only for yourself! If you are only writing for somebody else then you will never enjoy it. She would still write all of her books even if they weren’t published and nobody read them.”

This is something I would like to tell all the haters! The Anti-Twilighters are so annoying with their “it’s not even written that well.” Well, SM wrote it for herself and didn’t think that it would be published. I love the books and have reread them so many times I can remember certain lines! :D

Anyway I really liked your article, I had know idea Stephanie hated the cover of New Moon. I also didn’t know that parents with little kids and babies could go first at a book signing. This article really helped me get to know her a bit more. Thankyou for writing it.

  56. hey! i believe that was the signing in slc, was it not? well, i went the saturday one, but still! in the same city!! yay!
anyway, stephenie was so nice! shes so down to earth. you could totally tell that she did her own hair and makeup, so that was a plus for me. it meant that she wasn’t so deep into this that she other people do everything for her. she still lives a half-way normal life. it was great meeting her! :)

    on June 16th, 2008 at 10:35 am
  57. Wow, Stephenie sounds like she’s really nice in person. You are so lucky you got to meet her. I think I’m going to her New York City signing for Breaking Dawn and I’m so excited. I had no idea she hated the New Moon cover though. Of course, I think the flower is pretty, but it never held any real meaning for me either. I like her explanations of the other covers though.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 10:38 am
  58. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PUTTING THIS UP! I have yet to attend a book signing for Stephenie Meyer because I live in a small town where my parents work a lot, so I love it when people post things about signing experiences! It makes me feel like I was there! Stephenie Meyer has down a phenomenal job as an author and as my hero! It sounds like you had a wonderful time!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 10:40 am
  59. Haha, I love how Stephenie put Pam and Jim from The Office in The Host! That is my favorite show ever, and it makes it even more awesome to know that my favorite author is a huge fan of it as well.
It’s interesting that Ian was never supposed to be in The Host. He’s a central character in the novel for me, so that’s weird to hear.
You’re so lucky you got to go to a book signing. I might be able to go to the New York signing for her Breaking Dawn tour, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed about that!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 10:55 am
  60. hehe you are SO lucky! SM sounds funny! Wish I could meet her. Maybe on her SMALL Breaking Dawn tour…:P

  61. I only wish that she had been able to come close to Kentucky (or at least, close to me, ’cause Louisville isn’t that close to me).

I did learn that she’s a fan of The Office. I really don’t know how anyone can like that, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

And I can’t believe that Ian wasn’t supposed to be in the book. Ian’s my fave character!

My friend had written a note for her because she couldn’t go, and I gave it to Stephenie and told her how I had gotten my friend a book as a surprise and she was like “She owes you!” I love the “Tell everyone EDWARD DIES!!” thing, that would be so funny! If Edward dies I would freak out, though.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:20 am
  64. I thought that it was funny that SM uses the Office references in The Host. The Office is awesome!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:30 am
  65. Sounds like an awesome time. Stephenie really is a sweetheart, I was fortunate enough to go to two of her signings. The difference between them was astronomical. One year she had a small fan base (New Moon signing), and the next, WOAH. 700 fans inside a huge Barnes & Noble. ‘Twas amazing.

Unfortunately she didn’t come anywhere near me for The Host. But I’m making the journey up to NYC for her Breaking Dawn hybrid event!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:30 am
  66. lol about the email! sounds like a fun day. She really is great. =) I love Ian by the way, my fave character in the book, no surprise.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:30 am
  67. I unfortunately didn’t get to make it to a signing.

You are so lucky you did! Thanks for filling us in on all of the stuff going on at the signing!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:31 am
  68. lucky!! im glad you got to go to one of her book signings!! i didnt get to go, but im sure u had an awsome time!! thanks for the uptdate! :]

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:32 am
  69. i am SO jealous. i was going to go to a signing, but then i couldnt at the last minute. grr. i was so angry. but maybe i’ll get to go to the next tour thing…she stops by LA!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:32 am
  70. I actully didn’t know Stephenie hated the New Moon cover. I thought it was kind of prettu

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:35 am
  71. I loved going to her book signing when she came to Utah!! It was awesome hearing her talk about the books and I was able to get all my books signed…including the Twilight series and The Host!!! One thing I learned was that she dosen’t even design the covers. Someone just pics them out and she has to accept them whether she likes them or not. She also said that she didn’t like the New Moon cover and that it had no meaning (don’t quote me exactly, but I know what my ears heard) I can’t wait ’til she comes to Utah with her next book!!!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:40 am
  72. I like the fact that Steph is still so down-to-earth and humble despite her fame. She has inspired me to start writing my own books. Go Steph!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:45 am
  73. I live in Canada so there wasn’t a book signing near me :( But everything she said was really great. She really loves her characters so much and cares for them. But The Host without Ian? What? That wouldn’t be any good- the ending would be horribly sad and lonely without him. She’s so humble, sweet, and kind.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:48 am
  74. Wow I’m jealous now. I really want to go to an event like this but I can’t. I have the worst luck too since I thought I would be going to the breaking dawn book signing and found out I would be on vacation during that time. =(

I didn’t know Stephenie didn’t like the cover of New Moon. It’s too bad because she puts so much effort into writing the books and yet she has no say in picking the cover. What a shame. I loved your article because it makes me feel like I was there, even though I wasn’t.

(And BTW I would like to be entered in the draw please. :) )

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:49 am
  75. Thanks for putting the signing up here for us. I am never able to go to anyhting of Stephenie’s sadly. It is very nice to know what Stephenie thinks. I love Stephenie Meyer and all her books!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:49 am
  76. It’s a shame that New Moon breaks the streak of meaningful covers. I will always wonder what she would have chosen if she’d had the option…

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:56 am
  77. I really wish I could have gone ‘cuz I ADORE Stephenie and all her work and it would have been AMAZING to meet her!!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:59 am
  78. Oh my gosh I didn’t know that Stephenie wasn’t going to include Ian in the host. thats surprising!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
  79. Oh my gosh, I went to an Eclipse signing back in September, and it was awesome! When I met Stephenie I was like SOOO unable to frame a coherent thought! I felt like Bella when she was talking to Edward! Of course, my friend and her mom (who was acting as my mom because otherwise we would have been separated ;) ) reacted perfectly fine, and at the moment I had such a natural high that I barely noticed, but afterwards, I was, of course, embarrassed.

I like to admire the signature sometimes :) I’m so obsessed.

    P.S. I like your P.S. ;)

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
  80. I will i could have gone. There was none that were by me!!

That would have been one of the most amazing events in my life; (never to be forgotten) =D

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
  81. I went to an Eclipse tour and saw her last summer. It was amazing!!! She is so cool and inspiring!! Standing in front of her, I swear I almost fainted. I’m in pics on her website too!!

It was cool, because she said she loved the song “Hysteria” by muse, which I currently had on my I-pod!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
  82. Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I never understood the cover for New Moon, and I’m glad you cleared up that she doesn’t like it either. Haha.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
  83. Thank you for sharing your experience. Large events like this don’t usually come where I live, so I have to live vicariously through others. LOL! I always enjoy reading about her book signings. :-)

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
  84. Edward dies!? I think fangirls around the world would break down sobbing if they heard such a thing! That’s really cool that you got to talk to her. I went to a book signing, but I was so tired by the time that I got to get my books signed, that I didn’t really say much (being awe-struck that I got to meet my favorite author had nothing to do with it, of course). And I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one who questioned the New Moon cover.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
  85. That’s awesome. I went to a Twilight signing last year and was amazed at how nice and down-to-earth Stephenie is. I also love her comment about Edward dying. There would be mass depression among teenage girls if that happened.
And yes, I do think the librarian will be surprised when they realize that they got a book back signed!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
  86. Well meeting my idol sure went down as a main event in my book. Stephenie is amazing and she really is a sweet person. Meeting her was one of the best things that ever happened to me, not to mention that I got all 4 of her books signed :) She is an awesome person who i cant wait to read more of.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
  87. Omg wish I was there. I wish i could’ve been at the comic-con too, but when you live in a small Forks like town you don’t get much transportation to the big places =[ Thank you by the way for the written answers because i tries to listen to a video someone made but i really couldn’t understand it. Stephenie is so considerate it doesn’t suprise me at all that she was so kimd and brought the kids up first. Her signature is well 1. big and 2. pretty cool i can understand who it is but its not at all plain. Gosh I wish I could meet he. I wondered where the rumors of Edward Cullen dying came from..Natasha?

    on June 16th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
  88. I wish I could have gone one of the signings for The Host. I am planing to go to one of the Breaking Dawn signings though in New York and maybe Stephenie talk about The Host there. =]

    on June 16th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
  89. Another entry. I really enjoyed reading about the signing. I admire her even more after learning that she allows those attending with children to have their books signed first. Smart and thoughtful, what a great combination.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
  90. Okay, I totally got the Jim/Pam reference in The Host and I am so happy Stephenie is and Office fan, because I am too. I didn’t go to any of the signings, but I am glad that I got to read so many reports of them. I love Ian, and am so glad Stephenie included him. I love the fact that Stephanie invited all people with babies up first. As a mom, that would have been a big bonus. She is so awesome. It feels like I know her, better than any other author anyway.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
  91. Oh so lucky! I hope I can go to the Breaking Dawn signings! I love the Office too! I definetly have to look out for that refrence in the book! :)

    on June 16th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
  92. OMC that would be so mean to tell someone Edward dies pretending you were Stephenie. The world would have a huge depression problem.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
  93. i wish i could have gone!! my friend went and said it was so cool!! she sounds very nice. :)

    on June 16th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
  94. How exciting. I would have loved to be able to attend a book signing. I think the comment about telling everyone that Edward dies is funny. Just posting that here seems to have everyone jumpy :) Well ~I~ think it’s funny anyways.

  96. i love how stephenie loves all of her fans the way she does.
she is just an absolutely amazing person.
i personally think she should have been #1 on the Time Top 100 Influential People.
i went to one event of her Eclipse Tour last year, and just like this event, tons of people showed up, and she was signing books all night.
she didn’t stop smiling then either. (:

    on June 16th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
  97. Oh! I would LOVE to enter the giveaway contest! I havent actually been to Stephenie Meyer’s book signing, but i wish i could!!! I love the Twilight saga. Stephenie is a huge inspiration to many people around the world! She is my favorite author!!!! I don’t thin kthat anyone could write a book as good as Twilight! I dont think..I KNOW! I hope to read The Host soon, I’m still reading the Twilight series for the second time. I can’t wait for Breaking Dawn OR Midnight Sun, they both will be awesome books! I think Jacob and Edward are both great! No matter what anyone says! I am on both teams. I have the Team Jacob and Team Edward shirts from the Eclipse special edition :)
Well, i have to go read, i’m almost finished reading them for the second time!
Can’t wait for the movie either!
(To be entered into giveaway pleaseeee! )

    on June 16th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
  98. wow, that must have been AMAAAZING to meet her! I went to one of her Eclipse signings and Q&A but she didn’t come anywhere near me for the Host tour, so I’m glad that you posted up a transcript!
I’ve been reading most of the Host interviews, so I think I knew everything that you put except about the Jim and Pam reference- what reference is that, I need to go back and read it again! (I flew through the Host, lol, I don’t know if I would have noticed Bella and Edward being there even!) And I love that Ian just evolved into his own person- I feel like Stephenie does that a lot and it really works because she put in more emotion and personality to the character.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
  99. OMG!! i am sooo jelous!! Shephenie is so sweet and funny!! Thanks for sharing this with us and how nice of you to get a library book autographed, too.( i hope they dont put that back up on the shelfs…*has a mantal vision of everyone fighting for it* *winces*
Stphenie is an awesoem writer and i think she has written the BEST BOOKS in teh UNIVERSE!! NO ONE can top her writting!!

  100. Ahh…She is such an amazing woman. I really do love her because she is so great to her fans and really cares about us. When she came down to Seattle last summer I was there and this August she is coming as well. I will also be there. When I met her she was absolutely lovely. One of the best days of my life because how many people can say that they have met their favorite author of all time?? Not many. =) I’m glad that I’m one of the few.

    Another entry please. =)

    on June 16th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
  101. I would love to have met her. There was a signing in San Diego, but it was during school hours, so I couldn’t go. Sad. She seems like a good person and an amazing writer. You are so lucky to have met her. I’m jealous.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
  102. Thank you for sharing with us. I dont blame you for plugging your ears, haha I would have done the same. You are so lucky you got to go. SM has a great sense of humor. If Edward dies the whole fanbase would probably start a mob down her street. That would definitely modivate her to write a 5th book!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
  103. You are so lucky to have met her. I’m incredibly jealous. When I became obsessed with her books, it was too late and she had already come through my state and I had missed it. :( .. and for her Breaking Dawn tour she isn’t coming near me and I can’t go to New York because I’m only 15. I wrote to her on Myspace once and she actually responded but I’m not sure if it was legit, one can only hope. But anyway I’m completely obsessed with the Twilight Series and my friends make fun of me for it all the time. They made me a shirt that is covered in Twilight quotes and says Obsessive Cullen Disorder (OCD), on the back it even says Sampire the Vampire. They all have matching shirts that say Team Sampire. Please enter me in the contest!! Thanks!!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
  104. Sounds like a great time! I’m very jealous that you got to have sooo many books signed. I’m planning on going to the NYC Breaking Dawn tour, and she’s only going to sign the one bookplate. I really wish I could have my copy of Twilight signed. *sigh* But really, I’m not going to complain. I can’t wait to see her!

  114. That is so awesome!!! I wish I could’ve attended one of her book signings. I won’t be able to attend any of the 4 for BD. I hate the fact that I will be in Chicago 2wks BEFORE the event and won’t be able to make it back.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 5:32 pm
  115. Well after reading this blog i definetely wish i had gone to one of the signings…sadly she didn’t come near my city…o0o well….You know after reading this blog and rememberin other interviews…it really makes me see how nice and easygoing… she is..which is why I’m a great fan of hers…….I do hope i get to see her in NY…(if i convince my parents to take me)……
By the way…thank you for sharing your experience….

PS. I also learned something new….the Diet Pepsid drinker thing…i think Rob and her share this in comoon…since if i’m not correct… in some pics from twilight fans… Rob appears to have a diet pepsi with himmm……

    on June 16th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
  116. Wow, she seems so cool. Especially about the children going first part (:
I had no idea that the ribbion from the eclipse cover symbolizes bella cutting ties from her past. huh….
    I really admire her [;

p.s i seriously did not know that she was a diet pepsi drinker. :P nice fun fact ^_^

    on June 16th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
  119. That’s interesting! EDWARD DIES. LOL!!! Yeah…New Mon’s cover made no sense…The only sense it ever made to me was that.. the leaf looked depressing and morbid..lol… Love Breaking Dawn…I wonder what her thoughts are on that?

    on June 16th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
  120. Evening, How lucky you were to be a hostess! I did not know that she was named one of Time magazines “Top 100 Most Influential People!”
    What an accolade. Cindi

  122. Omg I am so jeolous…. I would love to get to meet Stephanie Meyers! I am currently writing a Christian novel… been before I started reading her series… but her writing is a big inspiration to me. She encourages me to never give up :-)

But about the info at the top of this page, I was stunned to read that she has no say in the book covers… and relieving to know what the second and third cover meant even though the second book cover means absolutely nothing :-(

Well thank you so much for spending your time to do this and post information like this :-)

    on June 16th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
  123. Please enter me in the contest. I love Twilight.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
  124. I skipped through the summary of The Host, because I haven’t read the book yet. I knew that Stephenie didn’t choose the cover of New Moon, but she shouldn’t hate it. There are lots of ways you can look at it. For one, I’ve usually seen it as Bella, bleeding heart after Edward leaves her.. I really am jealous of her, though, as she got quite lucky with the publication of Twilight. I never knew, though, that Stephenie could be such a.. person. Compared to many famous people.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 5:56 pm

    on June 16th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
  129. Wow. Stephenie Meyer seems like the nicest person. Some things that I didn’t know about her were that she loves The Office, that she hated the cover of New Moon, and how funny she was. (I’m referring to when she said, “Just pretend that you’re me, email them back, and tell them that EDWARD DIES!” That’s hilarious! I am actually planning on going to the Breaking Dawn concert in New York this summer. I guess that I’ll just have see for myself!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 6:10 pm

Well she is great for signing all those books, it is a wonder how she does it!!

Thank you for sharing this with us!

Ian wasn’t originally in the storyline?!?
im kinda dissapointed now but i can actually kinda tell though…

    on June 16th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
  134. I liked Stephenie’s thoughts on the covers the best. Interesting that she doesn’t like cover #2. I think I like it better than #3, but I’m going to have to go back and reread the books to decide. Now I really want to know what she thinks about the cover for Breaking Dawn. :)

    on June 16th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
  135. i wish i could have gone . her answers were so good. i especially liked her answer advice to the aspiring writer since that is what i hope to be when i grow up. i can tell that she is really liking all of this attention with the host and all of her other books.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
  136. Stephenie seems very honest AND modest. She likes to speak her mind-with the whole New Moon thing. I agree with her, what was with the flower?… It does’t represent anything… Well, anyway, thank-you for the info. Very cool.. thanx.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
  137. I WENT TO HER FINAL TOUR FOR THE HOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She was so nice and funny! This is what happened:

    (sorry but it’s story)

    WHEN I MET STEPHENIE MEYER

It was Stephenie Meyer’s last Host tour and I just got out of school. My uncle drove me down to the place where it was held and EVERYONE was sitting in a line, row after row of Twi-Hard fans sat in front of me. I took a seat anxious every second ; I was going to see my hero!
The helper waved his arm for us to go through the door way leading to the room where she would be sighing books. I ran to a seat and met a girl named Gloree. She had “Vampires rule.” written on her shoes and on mine: “I Heart Edward C.” on my left shoe. We started talking and we became friends that love Edward. Hours had passed and a lady stepped on stage and introduced Stephenie Meyer.
The door to the right opened and Stephenie Meyer herself walked through the door. Everybody started screaming and taking pictures.

    (SKIPS CONVERSATION ON STAGE)

Then a worker said “No pictures while Stephenie starts sighing!” I put away my camera and got all my books and waited in line. I was three people behind from meeting Stephenie Meyer. The worker saw the HUGE smile on my face and said. “ Are you exited?”
All that I could get out of my mouth was:
    “Yes!”
She nodded her head and put her hand on my shoulder and lead me to the table Stephenie was sighing.
“Hi Marianne!” She cheerfully said. (There was a sticky note in the book that said my name for her to personalise it.)
“…H-h-…Hi!” I couldn’t talk. She laughed and saw my shirt.
“You have to show me what your shirt says.” She says while sining my other books.
I moved my hair out of the way and said.
“Werewolves drule, Vampires rule!” I laughed.
    “Ah… vampire girl!”
“Yeah.” I couldn’t belive she called me a vampire girl! Me!!
    “Well bye Marianne!”
“Bye!” I replied and glanced one more time back at her.
I walked to the back of the line where my friend was and started tearing.
“Did you meet her!?” Gloree asked.
“Yes.” I squeeked. At this point I was crying of happiness.

Then I had to go home. I will never forget that night.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
  138. I wish i could have gone to one of her host signings! i was a day late to one of them or else i would have gone! i love when she answers questions, they’re always jucy cause they’re from the fans! I thought that the flower on the new moon cover was called a crying tulip and represented sorrow and depression, so at least i thought it had a meaning. I thought differently about the eclipse cover. I thought that it was her being torn by two sides without knowing which to choose. I loved all the answers to the questions and it’s nice to know she really takes her time with the fans. She’s such a devoted reader! ok im rambling. thank you for the info!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 7:12 pm
  139. I enjoyed reading about your experience. It sounds like it would be amazing to go to one of her signings….contest entry #1!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 7:27 pm
  140. Oh wow. It would have been completely amazing to meet her. I wonder how it feels for her to have been almost instantly catapulted to celebrity status at the footstool of Olympus. Well, we’re happy to have her there.

I’m really happy about what she said for the Twilight cover, because that’s almost exactly what I was thinking. I can sense a fan-girl rant coming on…

    on June 16th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
  141. I just love how down to earth Stephanie is, and in this you really captured it by revealing to us everything that you have just written above. I really want to go to a book signing now, lol.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
  142. i’m so jealous! haha
i was surprised when i read that Ian wasn’t suppoed to be in the story.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
  143. I didn’t know she loved the office… that is really cool. And I agree… the for new moon does sort of suck. And personally…. photos don’t do her any justice. Stephenie is a woman that you need to see in person. But i do like her pic in New Moon and Eclipse.

Her signings are just pure awesome!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
  144. oh my goodness that is sooo cool that you told us about her opinions of the ccovers. i never really got the point of the eclipse cover!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
  145. Just reading makes me jealous. I wish Stephenie would have a book signing in North Carolina. We love her books too!!!

P.S. Come to the east cost of NC :)

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
  146. WOW! THX FOR TELLING US ALL ABOUT YOUR EXPEREANCE!!! I LOVE YOUR BLOGS AND YOU BOOKS!!! YOUR A GREAT AUTHOR!!!!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:02 pm
  147. you are so lucky to have met her, i wish i could

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:04 pm
  148. Sounds like a very fun experience! I liked her comment about you pretending to be her. Great sense of humour. I’m glad she doesn’t worry about being taken to seriously!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
  149. You are so lucky to go. I almost went, but they were sold out on tickets. *sigh* Well, you are one lucky duck.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
  150. I absolutely love reading other people’s experiences at book signings. I was never able to go to one. =( You are so lucky you got to meet her! It sounded like you had a lot of fun. Thanks for posting the answers to her questions! She always answers key questions that I can’t find anywhere except through people who blog about it. Thank you!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
  151. Stephenie seems like such a humble person and I can’t wait to see her in New York during the Breaking Dawn Tour

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
  152. I was very lucky to get to see Stephenie when she came here! She is so funny! Thanks for posting the answers to the questions asked at your signing. I learned some things I’d hoped to learn at my signing!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
  153. I think Stephenie Meyer has the greatest personality of any writer I have ever met. It definitely shows through her books. Her devotion to her family and the love and devotion in her books are easy to see how great a person she is. I’m happy for you for the fact that you had the privilege to meet such an amazing woman. She will continue to be a huge role model for myself and many other young women out there.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
  154. I thought the Utah signing was sooo funn!!! I had made a tee- shirt , saying’ I bet Wanderer would like Twilight’ and on the back ‘ Edward could BEAT Jared any day’. Stephenie said that Wanderer would probably think Twilight was too violent(and I do agree with that, now. But you never know how much of the human emotions could have her a Twilighter, too). And Stephenie Also said that (about the back of my shirt) , “Well, usually the people with SUPER POWERS can win.” But then went on with me and my mostly my friend about how Jared is a better fighter than Ian(Stephenie on Jared’s side.) I was really fun and Stephenie is so nice. As my friends and I were , kind of forced, off the stage we were like, “We love you Stephenie!” and she responded with a suprised face and then a “Love you too!” LOL. Wow she can deffinately sacrifice her hands for her work, with all that signing. HA, she had like 20 sharpies ready.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 9:30 pm
  155. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us all. Stephenie Meyer seems like a really nice person. Of course I can’t comment from personal experience and I don’t just speak from what other people say either. I believe this because I believe that every author puts a little bit of themselves into each of their characters which leaves me to belive that Mrs. Meyer is a very rounded person. And she seems really funny too, I love how she told you to tell every one that Edward dies! She must have had many teenager crying! Well that sense of humor must come in handy having to be away from her family so long and having to travel so much has to be a drag but I know that we are all greatful for her time and her dedication to her fans. WEll thank you again for the breifing on the signing and hopefully you’ll be able to be at the Breaking Dawn signing as well so that those who are not able to make it to that one will be able to live vicariously through you lol! take care

    on June 16th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
  156. OH MY GOD, no freaking way. Stephenie is a diet Pepsi drinker!? Have you seen the pictures of Robert Pattinson on set? Almost all of them feature him holding a diet Pepsi can. Wow, that’s just really ironic and funny to me. So, yes, I did learn something new about Stephenie, and I’m going to meet her on August 5th, and I can’t wait. :D

    on June 16th, 2008 at 9:38 pm
  157. I’m really looking forward to going to the book signing in Chicago!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
  158. I can imagine the heartbroken fangirls now if you e-mailed them that.

Be wary about that library copy. My library (one of ‘em) ended up with a signed copy of a book once and CUT THE SIGNATURE OUT. I was seriously offended. Okay, let the book get stolen and charge someone a fine. Don’t mutilate a perfectly good book. It just really made me angry, that a library would do that. (Of course, I am the weirdo who attends the free book repair courses held by the archivists at one of my college libraries.)

Haha, I’m kind of glad she doesn’t like the cover of NEW MOON. It’s just so . . . random.

She sounds classy. I hope I can attend one of her events someday.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
  159. I’m happy to know what Stephenie Meyer was thinking about the book covers. I could figure out the first one but the second and the third I was a little clueless about. The only explanation I could give to the flower was how the vampires kept tlling Bella tha se had a floral scent…
I mean, I know she didn’t pick them -which is also interesting because I didn’t know that she had no say in that- but I’m still happy to know her opinion.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
  160. That must have been a really cool experience. It’s funny to me that people think those were Stephenie’s inhumanly white arms or that it was her face and eye…haven’t they ever seen her before?!? And I think that you should do what she says about telling girls that Edward dies. That would be so hilarious.
I’m entering in the SM giveaway.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
  161. :) I wish I could go to a signing! Love the books! It seems as if it would be super! I’m very excited, and hoping that I’ll get a copy of The Host SOON! I’m entering the contest!

    thanks.. you are awesome

    on June 16th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
  163. Wow, that is so great. I love that comment about you getting her “fan mail.” I think you should do that. :-)

I also really liked her comments about the covers. They are obviously very symbolic, and it’s cool to see what she thinks about them. I’m suprised she doesn’t get at least a little say about them, since she’s so popular now.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
  164. thank you soooo much for sharing with us!!!
I always love when u get to hear anything about stephenie. I always wish I had met her before we became famous because I always think we would get along.

Now of course it would be a waste because I would only be able to talk about the books. Ah well. I really really want to go to one of her events. I’m going to try to go to chicago. Its the closest shed been to lil old ky.

Anyways please enter me in the contest and thanks again!!!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
  165. That’s so awesome that you got to volunteer! I bet Stephenie really appreciates it, even if she doesnt say anything. I really wish she would come to Atlanta though!! :(

    on June 16th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
  166. I read all the signing reports from the Lexicon since I couldn’t attend them. One of my friend went, however, and I was able to beg her to bring my Twilight book with her to get signed. She came back Monday and told me pretty much a shorter version of what you said.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
  167. I wish I could have gone to one of the signings. However, I think I can go to the Breaking Dawn one, so I am very excited!!
I liked the cover of New Moon, but I’m a really flowery person. I can’t think of how many times I almost bought it because of the flower on the cover. Good thing I didn’t look at the synopsis because I HATED vampires and werewolvs before reading this series.
I would love to be entered into the contest.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
  168. It was fun to read about your experience at The Host signing. I figured out, from the questions and pictures, that we most likly both attended the same signing. And I too went to the signings of Shannon Hale, Brandon Mull, Brandon Sanderson, Sara Zarr, and so on the next day. Strange coincidence. I am amazed at all that you have done in support of her books and signings. I wish I could show my support as well as you do. You seemed to have a had a good experience, and I am sure will remember this day for years to come. And in my book you get an extra bonus for taking the library’s book to get signed, that is a great, selfless thing to do.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
  169. I am a creative writing and literature major and I love how she talks about writing.
Characters do have a mind of their own. I enjoyed finding out that Ian did not start off how he ended.
I like that she referenced The Office. I’ve never actually seen it but, that she is light enough with it (not saying that she doesn’t take it seriously) to not require every little thing be a double meaning is refreshing (after course work anyway).

Please enter me into your contest again.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
  170. Wow! Once I’m able to get all of her books, I need to go to a signing!
Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s so cool!
I love The Office! And I haven’t read the host yet, so I’m looking forward to reading the 200 and something page.

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
  171. Wow! Thank you for sharing your experience at the signing. I wish I could actually meet Stephenie in person. Stephenie is so kind to let the mothers with their children go first. Believe me little kids can become quite a hassle, especially in a store. That was so kind of you to give a signed copy to your library. I started cracking up at what Stephenie told you to say to those sending you fan mail. You should definitely try it!
I would absolutely love to be entered into your book giveaway contest!

    on June 16th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
  172. i liked the question about the cover and if it was her face. i thought it would have been cool if it was her face but oh well….and also good pics!!

    on June 17th, 2008 at 12:33 am
  173. WOw aren’t you the luckiest person ever. i want to meet her so bad. Stephenie is definitely the best person alive. she seems so down to earth and the part where she has parents with children coming up to see her first. that is great. I know kids are a handful sometimes.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 12:34 am
  174. Once again, I would love to be entered in the Stephenie Meyer Contest!

Before I got into the Twilight series, my sister was gushing to me about how she bought a ticket to the SLC, UT book signing. Now that I’ve read them, I am so jealous! I wish I could have gone! Stephenie Meyer is truly amazing and inspirational to many people.

I would love love love to have my own copies of her books. I currently am saving for college and paying bills (oy, right?) Haha. That means no fun frivolous spending, and certainly no purchasing of THE BEST books ever by the COOLEST, NICEST, most DOWN TO EARTH women to have written something in my lifetime. Life, right? Haha.

You are so lucky to have gotten the opportunity to help at one of these book signings. Lucky lucky you. :D

    on June 17th, 2008 at 1:10 am
  175. CT comment…big giveaway, wow that must annoy you reading that.

So..she’s a Diet Pepsi fan huh? My family, namely grandmother, has been pressuring me to drink diet pepsi since 9th grade. Lol.

That’s awesome that she asks people with young kids to get in front of the line. I am so glad that her publicist brought others up..that’s amazing. Her signature is so big.

I knew about the whole Ian bit..that was awesome to me. He’s like Jacob…just took over the story. Love Ian by the way. The host is one of my favorites.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 1:25 am
  176. Wow! That must have been really wonderful. And I knew Stephenie was a nice person, but after reading your experience she seems even greater. I love how she let people with children go first, because it’s so true about how children get impatient. I’ve seen it many times and when they get impatient, they start playing around and getting in to trouble, then parents get angry, and EVERYTHING just turns in to total chaos. But you were so lucky to have been at her book signing, I could never go until well 3 years. Unless she decides to come down to Hawaii, then that would be my absolute head over heels day.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 1:54 am
  177. Thank you for sharing this with us– especially for the majority who unfortunately never gets to see Ms. Meyer in person. I dream about the day when I would meet her in person, talk about the books she made, ask her all these queries itching to be answered and most of all to finally own my own Twilight Saga and/or The Host and have her sign it for me. What a dream come true~

    on June 17th, 2008 at 2:45 am
  178. What a fanastic memory for you and thank you so much for sharing it with us! I love the fact that you took a library copy in for a signature. That’s too cool!!

    on June 17th, 2008 at 3:48 am
  179. I agree with the other posters that Stephenie seems like a great person – just the type you’d want to have as your best friend. And witty, too! I just hope she’s kidding about the Edward dies thing – my daughter will freak if that happens!

    on June 17th, 2008 at 4:14 am
  180. Fun stuff. A year and a half ago I “snuck” into a signing and waited for 2 1/2 hours for her to sign my Twilight books. They let us sneak in, but put all of us “sneakers” at the back of the line. It was an interesting experience. All I remember saying to her was, “Never stop writing!” She said she didn’t plan on it.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 8:14 am
  181. Wow I wish I could have been there! She sounds like such a great person. AHA
“Tell them Edward dies” aha, I hope she’s not hinting at something there. xD
I don’t have much of an an opinion on this. She just seems like such a nice person, especially about letting the people with children going first. I never new the meaning of the Eclipse cover either so that was a plus of reading this. :]

    on June 17th, 2008 at 8:27 am
  182. She seems really cool. I thought her comments about the book covers were interesting, and I feel bad that she missed the kindergarten graduation. It was really nice of her to sign that many books for that many hours. I have no idea how her hand is still functioning!

    on June 17th, 2008 at 9:12 am
  183. I have not yet attended one of your book signings, but I hope to attend your Breaking Dawn book signing in Seattle. Is Blue October going to be there? I am so excited because I will have already read Breaking Dawn when I go to your book signing!! I can’t wait to hear what will happen in Breaking Dawn!!! I hope I can go to one of your signings!! I hope your breaking dawn tour will be great because I heard it is supposed to be really cool since it is your last tour for a while!! :)

    on June 17th, 2008 at 9:50 am
  184. I watched alot of your book signings on youtube. They were really funny!

    on June 17th, 2008 at 9:57 am
  185. I have to say that it is really difficult trying to attend a Stephanie Meyer signing. Theres lots and lots of people and you stand in line for hours but that one chance you get to meet her even if its only three seconds is a wonderful experience. Meeting somebody that has created this wonderful world of mythical creatures and not only captured but held you hostage is an experience that you’ll never forget.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 10:11 am
  186. aw she sounds so nice it must have been amazing to meet her

    on June 17th, 2008 at 10:27 am
  187. I love getting to hear authors perspectives on things like book covers. I would find it so frustrating to pour so much heart and soul into a book and then have no say on cover art.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 11:11 am
  188. i liked learning about what she thinks of the book covers and the cast, i like to hear what the author thinks and stuff. i never would have thought she hated the new moon cover! either way, i love to hear from stephenie.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
  189. Wow! I was shocked that she hated the cover of New Moon. xD I love it… although she is right, it doesn’t have much meaning. I think it’s really cool how she likes the noise in her house. She prefers to have her children there, aah, she’s so lovable. Haha. Lmao, on the whole EDWARD DIES! thing. SO many girls [like myself] would go absolutely CRAZY! I was about to, but I knew she was kidding. Aaah, I love Stephenie!

    on June 17th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
  190. OMG I LUV THIS CONTEst! im a big big FAN Of STEPHENIE MEYER AND ALL HER BOOKS! THIS CONTEST IS GREAT PLEASE ENTER ME IN ! YOU GUYS/ GIRLS ROCK! AND GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

  191. What a fabulous review and interview you have here. Love that you asked about being a mom and a writer, I often ask the same question. She sounds like a fabulous woman, and you are lucky to have been able to volunteer for this event and meet her.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
  192. She is evil when she said to tell girls that Edward dies! I’mglad you had fun, I know more then a dozen girls (including myself) who would have loved to be in your shoes. Kudos on sending a library copy with you to get signed! this is for the contest too, but i still loved the post!

    on June 17th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
  193. Cool!i wish i coulve gone to the Host signing. =( I think it totally sucks that Stephenie has no control over the cover of her books! At least she likes them…except for the New Moon one. I always wondered what it was supposed to mean! so it means nothing! Who picks these covers!!? why did they pick that cover for New Moon? weird. ^-^ anways another thing…IAN originally didnt exist!!?? i can’t believe that! I LOVE IAN! The Host wouldnt have been the same without him. so im super glad she put him in!!!

    on June 17th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
  194. OOPs i forgot to say something else. I wanted to say i think its cool you got to volunteer at the book signing!! I wanna volunteer at a book signing! I wonder if i could at a Breaking Dawn one…^___^ well thats all. oh and yay my comment was #93! haha #3 is my fav number. sorry…random.

I’ so excited about this twilight contest Please enter me up!

  196. Oh I’m so jealous. It’s really not fair. I’m planning to go to the Breaking Dawn tour in NYC, considering I live there. ((Maybe that was too much information to give out on the internet)) But she’s not even going to personalized our books, or sign our books. No it’s on a label. And as much as I appreciate them trying to make the NYC attendees feel special by giving them Limited Edition Breaking Dawn bookplates…it’s not very special for me.

I’m just wondering now, if it’s worth going there. I really want it personalized and signed in my book, directly. And if she’s going to do a tour for Midnight Sun where she is personalizing and etc. I’m going to really pissed off. I mean a year isn’t that long. It’s already June in 2008.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
  197. I can’t believe I saw Stephenie’s signature! It’s so cool! (unfortunatly, Stephenie has not come to my city yet).

On the cover of the Host, I thought it was Stephenie’s face. Now, I know different. Thank you for sharing that info with us (thank you, Natasha and Stephenie)!

    on June 17th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
  198. Lucky!
I can’t generally afford to go all over the country for her signings because NONE of them have been near me… :(
but my friend got a graduation present that was one of her signed books, and I guess I’ll just have to steal it, ha ha jk!

    on June 17th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
  199. I wish I could’ve been there.:( Almost went to the KC one, but couldn’t make it.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
  200. I actually got to go to one of her book signings but it wasnt for “The Host” it was for Eclipse. But it was a great experience.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
  201. I didn’t know she didn’t like the cover of New Moon.

I thought she’d like it, since she’s the author.
    :P
    Hm.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
  202. Hahaha you know what I love about Stephenie? Her sense of humor. She certainly keeps it together and shows grace under pressure.

Your night must have been magical. I didn’t have the chance to see her when she came to Houston but my goodness, I went through my entire day just thinking, “Stephenie is here. In my city. Signing books this very second!”

I love the Office reference in The Host. ‘Twas incredibly amusing.

    :-)

    on June 17th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
  203. Well I’v never actully been abele to go to one of her book signings. I REALLY wish I could though. It sounds like a lot of fun.
    I’m so jealous! T_T

    on June 17th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
  204. I wish I could read The Host but unfortunately I don’t have the book yet. My friend has a copy and I look forward to reading it soon. From what I’ve heard, The Host seems very interesting and spectacular. Almost as good as the Twilight series. Again Ms. Meyers has outdone herself with another book.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
  205. I think Stephenie Meyer is an awesome person, and a very good role model for girls everywhere. I wish I could have met her…

    on June 17th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
  206. I really envy you right now. I wish I wouldn’t have had the chance to meet Stephenie Meyer. Very nice overview of the Q and A, I really wish I could have been there!

    on June 17th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
  207. I truely envy you! I really wish Stephenie would come out to Pittsburgh… and I know shes a busy woman so I guess I will live you are a very lucky person!

    on June 17th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
  208. Ahh you are one LUCKY person!
Although, I did meet her last year for the Eclipse tour xD
But who gets tired of meeting the best author ever?
EDWARDDIES?! hahah, I would love to see someone’s response to that if they thought you were Stephenie. She IS really nice, I lovee her. Being last has its quirks :D
The signing seemed amazinggg I wish I could have gone.
Where was the one you went to?
That was nice of you to get the library copy signed, although I wouldn’t be surprised if they let someone check it out and it’s never returned xD
Your booksie weekend sounds funn! I wish I could go with you :D
And ah. Ian. He definitely makes it up to Edward par. :]
This was a lovely blog, thanks for posting it ;]

    on June 17th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
  209. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tHAT IS AMAZING! Every time she does a book singing or something I miss her… *tear* I think it is awesome that you got to see and you are a good person for donating a signed copy of a book to the library. I think the world of Stephanie everything I her about just makes me respect her more.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 8:54 pm
  210. Lucky! I didn’t get to meet her because she hasn’t been to Ohio.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 9:13 pm

By the way, I posted an announcement of the contest on my blog.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 9:59 pm
  213. Robert Downey, Jr. over George Clooney? Interesting!

    on June 17th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
  214. Ur Lucky!!! I envy all those people that went while I was stuck at home cuz I couldn’t get a freakin ride!! Anyways, Stephenie seems like an amazing person, I wish she was my mommy haha Edwards dies?!?! I’d die if somebody ever told me that:( not really id probably go into depression r something..well u get my point haha
Crap sorry for leaving such long comments :(

    on June 17th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
  215. Most of the things mentioned in this article about Stephenie Meyer were hardly surprising! She does seem really nice and positive about a lot of things, which is probably due partially to her success. She’s an amazing author, and it’s probably because she writes for herself. If you have the pressure of pleasing everyone, the book might not be as good as it would be if you just wrote what you liked. I hope she continues to write other things even after Breaking Dawn.

    on June 17th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
  216. Woah. How great!
I would enjoy going to a book signing :]

    Thanks for the info!

    on June 18th, 2008 at 1:47 am
  217. wowza i am so jelous even if you did stand there for like 6 hours and had to do tickets and stuff , i wouldnt care if i had to clean peoples shoes…. with my tongue ( ok maybe i would a little) i would not be able to contain myself everything would be quite and all you would hear was me giggling and jumping up and down. i love stephenie meyers answers although sometimes they are sooo frustrating as she never tells us everything but i think thats good then we would all be more suprised by the finished product , lol tell them edward dies she would have alot of unhappy readers on her hands , basically wow to the whole thing and thankyou for putting this up x

    on June 18th, 2008 at 4:11 am
  218. I thought that Ms. Meyer’s opinion of the covers was interesting because I thought the same thing about all of them.

    #6 on checklist = done.

    on June 18th, 2008 at 7:20 am
  219. She seems like a really great person!
Of course, the fact that she tells you to tell her fans the Edward dies is kiiinda a lot mean, but if I were her, I think I would do the same thing!

“Oh yeah! Tell them that Edward dies, Jacob gets killed by Alice who leaves Jasper for Rosalie and Emmett ends up with Bella who he then accidentally kills cause he is too strong. Then everyone goes and gets pasta. From the Olive Garden. NIGHT!”

(#6 on the checklist is done :D )

    on June 18th, 2008 at 8:09 am
  220. It is nice to know that Stephenie Meyers is such a down-to-earth practical person. I loved the fact she lets those with young ones get their books first. I also enjoyed her comments on the covers of the books. And getting an insiders view into their family and how she balances time was great. It is awesome that you were able to spend so much time at the book signing, even if some of it was tedious. Thank you for sharing, especially the photos and the tidbit that, like me, she enjoys Diet Pepsi.
I would love to win a set of her books.

    on June 18th, 2008 at 9:42 am
  221. She seems really nice, which is cool because it tells you that authors are REAL people.
I finished the Host and I loved it even more than Twilight. And now, I’ve got to go check out that The Office reference…
    (#6)

    on June 18th, 2008 at 9:46 am
  222. aww! i wish i was there!!! it was so nice of stephenie bring the people with little ones up first. that was very understanding of her. i was sad though when i found out that ian wasn’t suppose to be in the host … but i am glad that he was!!! i love them. sigh. my 6th post! yay!!!

    on June 18th, 2008 at 10:42 am
  223. Hey, i was wondering, do you think that Stephenie Meyer is her real name or a pen name? i know she was going to Use Megan Meyer as a pen name at one piont and was wondering if Stephenie is her real name.

    on June 18th, 2008 at 11:38 am
  224. Thanks for giving us all of that information! I was glad to hear what Stephenie said about the cover of New Moon. That’s probably my least favorite cover, because I didn’t really get what it had to do with the book at all. Hmm. I didn’t know Stephenie liked The Office, nor did I realize it was mentioned in The Host! Ha!

    on June 18th, 2008 at 11:57 am
  225. Ahhh she’s amazing. I really wish I could be like her ;]
i’m also very glad that Ian turned up in the host, it wouldn’t have been nearly so great if he wasn’t there!
i however, disagree with her. i just don’t get how she can love all the cast when i don’t? lol. =]

    on June 18th, 2008 at 11:57 am
  226. Wow, I am really enjoying your blog. This is the first time I’ve been on. I consider myself to be an avid and informed(ok,obsessed)
Twilight,Edward,Stephenie fan. But, I have already learned 3 new things from your site.
    Thanks.

    on June 18th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
  227. “Just pretend that you’re me, email them back, and tell them that EDWARD DIES!”

this made me actually laugh out loud! not just a casual lol like woke my mom up on the couch next to me kinda laugh! I am so excited to read the Host and look for the office ref. I can’t believe that they don’t let Stephenie have any say on the book covers. I would be so ticked if something I worked very hard on didn’t come out the way I wanted it.

I can’t wait to see the Sara Zarr post!

    on June 18th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
  228. Haha, I love this,

“Just pretend that you’re me, email them back, and tell them that EDWARD DIES!”

I absolutely love Stephenie Meyer, she is so funny and she has a great sense of humor! I didn’t know that she hated the cover of New Moon and that the flower meant nothing to her, but I’m actually kind of glad because I had figured out what the covers of Twilight and Eclipse had represented, but the cover of New Moon totally had me bushed. I’m so glad that it meant nothing to Stephenie because I was really starting to get frusterated! I have to say that I’m really jealous that you were able to attend the book signing. She hasn’t come anywhere near my town, so I haven’t had the chance! Thanks for recapping the expirience for us, though!

    on June 18th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
  229. Wow, I am foaming at the mouth with jealousy right now :) I always knew that Stephenie was funny from her books, but I didn’t know her sense of humor ran that deep, and I love the bit about the mothers being put to the front of the line!

    on June 18th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
  230. i would like to enter

    on June 18th, 2008 at 4:22 pm
  231. I went to one of those signings too (the last one actually) and you were right about always smiling and signing everyone’s book. I can’t believe she doesn’t have carpel tunnel syndrome yet!

And OMG did she really tell you to say EDWARD DIES!? That’s funny yet HORRIBLE! LOL

    I {heart} Stephanie!

    on June 18th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
  232. i’ve never actually been to a book signing but ive seen parts of them on youtube and stephenie seems like a great person,
    haha, EDWARD DIES !
i would cry if someone told me that and they were being serious.
i would really like to meet stephenie meyer .

    on June 18th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
  233. I am astounded at the way Stephenie Meyer ahndles her new celebrity status and all of the fans at the signings.
I attended her signing for Eclipse in Cincinnati and she was sooo nice adn polite and genuine. She smiled and chatted with my friendsand me and even had comments and compliments on out T-shirts.

I am grateful that you shared this with all of us. I am always interested to hear about other people’s encounters with people of interest.

    on June 18th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
  234. I went to a book signing last year after Eclipse came out. We (me, my sister, and my two best friends who I recuited into the Twilihgt army) went only about an hour away to a Barnes and Noble. We were totally freaked out because we didn’t think we could actually get in. Fortunely, we got a hot pink ticket. Unfortunately, hot pink was pretty far down on the list. We went in, listed to the Q&A, tried to catch a peek of Stephenie whilst climbing on top of book shelves and fellow Twilight fans. ;]
She had great answers to all the questions that were asked then the hot pink group had to wait outside in the rain, we were all trying to keep our books dry! After a three hour wait, we were finally close enough to see our hero! This was out conversation:

Meyer (to my sister): Hello Katarina!
    Kat:…(stunned to silence)
Me: Wow, you actually said her name right!
Friend 1: I’m sorry but I’ve only just finished Twilight yesterday!
    Meyer: Well welcome Newbie ;]
Friend 2: Okay how to you say Laurent?
Meyer: Say it however you want but I say Laurent (rhynmes with crosiannt)

BEST DAY OF MY LIFE ;]

    on June 18th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
  235. OMG I went to one here in California and it was the best day of my life! She answered one of my questions, and she was so nice to me! It was exciting! I wish I could have taken pictures, there were NO PICTURES ALLOWED, unfortunately. =[ But it was cool, I had fun. It suckish that you were last but it's so awesome that you ushered at the event. Hope your experience was as unforgetable as mine. =]
(I hope I’m being put down for the giveaway, as I am following all of the steps on your list. Thanks.)

    on June 18th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
  236. Wow, I couldn’t imagine The Host without Ian! I’m so glad he managed to sqeeze out of her mind and make it into the book. And I never really figured out the ribbon from Eclipse so now I know!

    on June 18th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
  237. The babies got to go up first! Bring my nephew with me just for that Haha. I love the advice she gave to aspired writers.! You’re so lucky girl!

    on June 18th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
  238. That is so sweet that she invited those parents with babies or young children to come up first in line.
I wish she would come to our city and do a book signing and talk!

    on June 18th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
  239. That sounds so exciting! Thanks for sharing. With her breaking dawn tour I’m hoping to go to one of the signings but I’m worried that tickets might sell out but I’m going to try. :)

    on June 18th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
  240. wow! isn’t she just AMAZING!!! I just love Stephenie Meyer! She like the Ultimate Mom, Just like The Twilight Guy said!!! :D
What i didn’t know was about how Jim and Pam from the office was a reference to the Host! Thats just freaken cool! =]
    [[Contest]] =]
i hope we aren’t supposed to put what number we are on for the contest =(

    on June 18th, 2008 at 10:06 pm
  241. Aww. That was so nice to read! I’m glad that there are authors out there who are courteous in regards to youngsters — but, at the same time, it’s a testament to Stephenie Meyer’s extensive fan base. Who knew love could bring people together so well?

    on June 18th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
  242. My daughter would love to go to a books signing for her!!

    on June 19th, 2008 at 5:24 am
  243. Entry!!! :) I would love to go to a book signing, it would be fantastic to meet the genious mind behind my obsession. It is absolutely ridiculous how obsessed I have become with this series! LOL

    on June 19th, 2008 at 7:50 am
  244. That’s really nice that she let the small kids come up… she is so awesome!!! and Edward dies…. lol she has a sense of humor for sure lol. I am definitely going to her book signing for the host…. I haven’t decided which book to get signed though *sigh*

    on June 19th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
  245. It really is amazing, the fan base around these books. I can’t help but wonder what Meyer thinks when she goes to a signing and see all the people that turn out.

This has really inspired me. I am a writer (don’t laugh because you think it’s cheesy) and I want to write a book that has even just half the fan base that the “Twilight” books have.

Meyer has created a phenomenon that has thouched the lives of so many.

    on June 19th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
  246. “Just pretend that you’re me, email them back, and tell them that EDWARD DIES!” Too funny. I LOVE that response!!

It would be neat to have signed copies.

    on June 19th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
  247. She’s very easy to relate to, at least seemingly. And I agree with the pointless nature of the “New Moon” cover art.

    on June 19th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
  248. I’m so jealous:)

    on June 19th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
  249. I never got to go to the booksigning but I wish I had! I’d really like to get to know her and how she put all this together.

    on June 20th, 2008 at 10:56 am
  250. I like how she talks about her characters like they really exist and they are the ones telling her the story and she is just typing it up.

    on June 20th, 2008 at 11:03 am
  251. it has been one of my dreams to go to one of stephenies book signings!!! but they are so far away i would have to fly out to the place cause i live in florida!!! but i do wish i could go !

    on June 20th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
  252. Thanks for posting this. its not as good as actually getting to see her speak but… it helps. Ha! I would love to go to a book signing one day. she seems like an amazing person.

    on June 20th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
  253. Thanks for posting this. I would have loved to go to something like this. I’m so hooked on the Twilight books – I have been tearing through them, I just got Eclipse in the mail yesterday.

The one drawback would be what you mentioned about spoiler questions during her talk. I wouldn’t want to know what happens in the books I’m not through with yet.

    on June 20th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
  254. I didn’t know that she was on the cover of Time magazine! Or that Edward dies. ;-) Kidding!

    on June 20th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
  255. i was fortunate enough to attend the signing in denver and it was AMAZING…Stephenie is a very kind-hearted person and she is really in-tune with the characters she writes about….(she answered my question first at the signing)

    on June 20th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
  256. wow that sounds like fun I wish I would have been there I haven’t been able to meet SM but i hope I will someday.I din’t know that she was among the 100 most influential people, that’s awesome. Thanks for sharing even though I’m a little jealous ;)

    on June 21st, 2008 at 4:15 pm
  257. For some reason, in my head, I can’t picture Natasha Maw NOT being friends with Stephenie Meyer. Besides the fact that you’re not a huge sci-fi fan and she is would be the only blaring complication I see in the friendship. :)

I loved Twilight, but I think part of the reason I like it so much is because of Stephenie. (duh.) She really has inspired something in me. Twilight became a living addiction when I read the meadow scene, not only because it was written so beautifully, but also because that is where the whole dream started. I love that Stephenie was just a “normal” person – with a lot of similarities to hundreds of stay-at home (mormon) moms – and she created something so incredible from a dream. It’s amazing to me. I like her. I think she’s just a down-to-earth, ethereal goddess. :) Okay, maybe I’m not THAT crazy, but she strikes me as being REAL. And real is quite the accomplishment when the whole world treats you like a super-star.

    on June 21st, 2008 at 4:51 pm
  258. I live in the same state as Stephenie, but have never been to any of her book signings. I will keep an eye out of when she might be doing one locally again here in AZ.

    on June 21st, 2008 at 11:20 pm
  259. I absolutely love this post. It shows how Stephenie is not only witty in her books but even in person. The quote about Edward dying made me laugh so hard. I could almost imagine the fans fainting from that shocking e-mail. It was so kind and thoughtful of her to let all the people with the small children or babies to go up first.

    on June 22nd, 2008 at 1:00 pm
  260. I was suprised that Stephenie does likes all the covers of her novels except the New Moon cover. I thought it was pretty and I also did’nt know that she does not decide how the cover should look.

    on June 22nd, 2008 at 2:55 pm
  261. I didn’t know about the Time 100 thing…thats AMAZING…woh…
She sounds sweet and humorous, I’d love to meet her.
The library thing was really sweet…what ever happened when they found out?

love Diet Pepsi- good taste :)

  262. I wish I was you. I would love to meet Stephenie Meyer and Shannon Hale.
That bit about you getting her fan mail and Edward dying was hilarious. You should really do that.
Please enter me into the contest.

    on June 22nd, 2008 at 10:00 pm
  263. Stephanie sounds like a genuinely nice person: allowing the women with kids to get their books signed first.

And I’m surprised she has no say in the covers of her book.

And I can’t believe she had to miss one of her kids’ kindergarten graduations…I guess no “job” is ever perfect, eh?

    on June 22nd, 2008 at 11:11 pm
  264. I would’ve pegged her as a coke drinker.

    on June 23rd, 2008 at 1:20 am
  265. Seems like she’s pretty down to earth which is refreshing.

I’m totally with her on the Eclipse cover. It’s definitely my least favorite.

    on June 23rd, 2008 at 7:27 am
  266. Wow, what a terrific day. I have been to a few book signings, but you got a reaaly good experience with har. I wish I could have been there. Thanks for sharing the info.

    on June 23rd, 2008 at 8:40 am
  267. That’s really interesting that Stephenie dislikes the cover of New Moon. That’s terrible and funny (in fact it’s terribly funny) that she told you to say that Edward dies.

    on June 23rd, 2008 at 1:57 pm
  268. Okay so I am very very gullable but, EDWARD BETTER NOT DIE!!! That would be one horrible horrible horrible torturest[?] day. I wouldn’t know what to do. As for the covers, I agree. The flower cover for New Moon didn’t make sence and I couldn’t find a symbolizism for it either. And I find it funny that you got the library’s copy signed. Bravo!

    on June 23rd, 2008 at 2:59 pm
  269. I love the idea of letting small children and infants go first. It makes it easier on the moms and other guest. Then the rest of us (no kids here yet) don’t have to listen to a tired, hungry kid. Their moms deserve nice things too! :)

    on June 23rd, 2008 at 6:54 pm
  270. Sounds like a fun night. She came to our town, but we couldn’t go.

    on June 23rd, 2008 at 10:31 pm
  271. Awwww she missed her kid’s kindergarten graduation? That sucks. I guess you gotta do what you gotta do, but I still feel sympathy for her.

    on June 24th, 2008 at 4:04 am
  272. Sounds like it was a crazy and fun event.

    on June 24th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
  273. Hanging out with an author, what fun! That’s great that she references The Office in the book! :) Good to know about writing and being a mom, too.

    on June 25th, 2008 at 7:43 am
  274. I’m surprised about Stephenie’s lack of involvement with her book covers. I liked New Moon’s cover the least out of all of them as well. It really sucks that she doesn’t have a say. She seems like such a normal, personable woman. And I agree about the movie cast; I absolutely ADORE all of them! Especially Ashley as Alice– she is too cute.

    on June 25th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
  275. wow,
    that sounds amazing
i wish i could go to one of her signings
but im only 14, and my parents won’t take me
    so i can’t :(
it would be so awesome to meet her
    she’s incredible

    on June 25th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
  276. Thanks for sharing.

I wish she came to my city.
    Thats would be amazing.

I haven’t read The Host yet though.

    on June 26th, 2008 at 10:28 am
  277. thanks for sharing this evening with us. Stephanie seems like a very nice person and i wish i could meet her. i love her books. it was very interesting to see what she thought of the covers for her books. you always get to here what other people think but rarely do you here what the author thinks of them. i also agree that the cover of new moon still has to meaning for me.

    on June 26th, 2008 at 11:28 am
  278. Thanks for sharing your experience. It would be great to meet her.

That would have been hard not to listen to the spoilers. I wouldn’t have wanted to ruin it, but I also wouldn’t want to miss what she had to say! It’s nice when it’s something written out that you can save to read when you are finished with the book.

That was thoughtful of you to get the library’s book signed, too. I hope no one takes it! It would be tempting to switch it out for an unsigned one, but hopefully everyone will be content to share.

Someone posted on here (I couldn’t find it when I went back to look) that they wished they were friends with her before the books. I’ve thought the very same thing. As well as wishing that we could somehow meet & be friends sometime in the future. Of course, I would probably ruin it by being so fascinated to meet her that I wouldn’t have anything intelligent to say.

re: post #45: I bet she’d be happy to see the worn pages of your books. It’s like an old teddy bear that you know is really loved because it’s all worn out.

#124: I like your comparison of Bella and the flower. I was agreeing with Stephenie that I didn’t see a connection with the story. I even checked to make sure it wasn’t a freesia, because I couldn’t remember for sure what kind of flowers those were. Does anyone know what kind of flower it is? It’s very pretty. Hmm, that makes me think of Bella, because it’s not a rose–the classic romantic flower–but it’s beautiful.

    on June 26th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
  279. Wow. That’s almost all I can say. I envy you so much for being able to meet and talk to her. I really wouldn’t have minded the wait, it would be worth it in the end, that’s for sure! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us, I especially loved the part where she told you to respond saying that Edward Dies. It made me laugh, Edward can’t die! Haha.

    on June 27th, 2008 at 7:35 am
  280. How awesome that you got to attend her signing and book discussion. It sounds like a really good one. Sometimes you see authors show up for signings, and they seem so lifeless and like the only reason they’re there is to sell the books they’re signing. Stpehanie sounds like a fabulous person to listen too. How cool!!

Crazy that she doesn’t have a say in her book covers though?!

Thanks for including me in your Stephanie Meyer giveaway draw. :)

    on June 27th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
  281. I wish I could have gone to that book signing! It must have been an amazing day for you. It really is nice what Stephenie did about the moms with children in the line.
Now I’m just waiting for her to come to Florida one day!

    on June 28th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
  282. How fun! It sounds so amazing. I would give anything to find the time to go to one of Stephenie’s book signings.

Thanks for your post! I enjoyed it a lot. And thanks for your awesome giveaway!!

    on June 28th, 2008 at 7:09 pm
  283. Thanks for the great description of the book signing. It is always nice to hear about what someone seems like in person!

    on June 28th, 2008 at 10:44 pm
  284. If she ever comes to San Jose, I’ll be there! Even if it means being in line for an hour, getting there, and embarassing myself by having nothing to say.

How unexpected, to not like the cover of one of your books…hmmm, interesting.

I’d be stunned if someone came up to me and said “EDWARD DIES!”.

    on June 29th, 2008 at 1:46 am
  285. Thanks for posting this. That was awesome.

Whew! At least she cleared up the “New Moon” cover. I had spent hours debating with my friends over what that stupid flower could possibly represent and depict.

    Aw =\
    I wish i could have gone! I wish i lived nearby. =\

    on June 29th, 2008 at 5:14 am
  286. She sounds funny in person, and i would love to meet her.
My head would probably fall off if i ever did, though.
I really wish i could have gone.

  287. Uck! I would have LOVED to have been there! I didn’t know much about Stephenie Meyer to begin with, but this review has helped me. ^_^ Thanks for posting it up for those of us that couldn’t have been there!

    on June 29th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
  288. oh my gosh! she sounds like one cool lady! And it was so nice that mothers with kids could go first.. so nice of her! I wish I could be there and I have to keep my eyes open for when she comes near me to sign books.. that would be SO cool! O_O

    on June 29th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
  289. I think that the book covers is really interesting, but I understand the cover of new moon.

The flower is representing the way Bella is blooming and opening in the middle of the night. Her love is really blossoming and she’s becoming totally independent in her new setting.. forks. And also, like a flower she bruises easily but still maintains her beauty and allure.

  290. It sounded like a fun and busy day. She did alot of “writing” and sounds like a happy person.I was surprised that she was reading 3-4 books a week. Being a Mom, writer and wife where does she find the time?

    on June 29th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
  291. She has a very snazzy signature. Sounds like you had an awesome day!

    on June 30th, 2008 at 11:26 am
  292. You are one LUCKY PERSON! I wish i could volunteer for an event like that, but whatever happens…..so you got to see her? nice! she’s a very dynamic person….she’s pretty too… :D

    on June 30th, 2008 at 11:42 am
  293. Thank you alot for shaing. I havent read The Host. But i have read the Twilight Series and they were Awesome. Umm…. Well, I also think that Stephanie Meyer is AMAZING. I haven’t got to met her but hopefully i can.

    on June 30th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
  294. Thanks for sharing. My co-worker, who is Twilight obsessed, would have loved to be there.

    on June 30th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
  295. You are one of the luckiest people who have met Stephenie Meyer in person. I would like to meet her someday. From what I’ve read and heard, she’s really a nice, cool, funny, and down to earth person. I didn’t know that she likes Robert Downy Jr and has the time to read that many books with her busy schedule. Thanks for sharing Natasha!

    on June 30th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
  296. i would have loved seeing she and just listening to her. she is a wonderful person.

  297. First and foremost I would love to know how you got your job! I would love to have that job! If I could ever meet Stephenie Meyer and get my books signed it would be a dream come true. I swear she is one of my most influential persons in my life. If ever I became a writer it be because she inspired me to do so. I love her writing and I would love to tell her so. I would have loved to hear her interview. I would never forget it. I also like the fact that she let mothers with children get their books signed because what she said is true. I mean I have trouble waiting in line at H-E-B and I’m 16 I can’t imagine what a toddler or a 8 year old would feel (most likely tired). It’s great to know there are people who care. Its amazing how many fans she has and the variety of ages there are. Who knew that a mother could become obsessed with Twilight and Stephenie Meyer, if my mother shared my obssession it be great because it be easier to convince her to take me to every signing of Stephenie Meyer’s, but unfortunately she isnt.

    on June 30th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
  298. That is so cool! Thanks for filling us in! :D Now if I ever go to a book signing or something I’ll be sure to bring Stephenie a Diet Pepsi. hehe.

    on June 30th, 2008 at 5:50 pm

  300. I have The Host, but haven’t read it yet. I am to hung up in Twilight world. I get to meet Stephanie in August in Chicago. I am so stoked. Reading your blog gives me some idea of what to say to her. Actually, I probably will become speechless and won’t say anything.

    on June 30th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
  301. ah! you’re so lucky!
and MAN, I seriously hope that she was totally kidding when she said that bit about Edward dying! ’cause like….what would happen after that?!? D:

    on June 30th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
  302. Man, reading your blog makes me think about twilight and fall in love all over again. (right here I’d put a smile but it seems a bit juvenile) I’m positive that she is wonderful human being, and I hope someday to meet her.

    on June 30th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
  303. That’s so sweet of her to help out all the moms and the kids! Haha, telling fans that Edward dies..that’s hysterical! I looove Jim and Pam, or “Jam”. That’s so cool!

    on June 30th, 2008 at 6:26 pm
  304. Good for you! You’re lucky to have gotten to see Stephenie Meyer :P I didn’t know that there was a reference to The Office in The Host! I’m going to have to go find it now :D And I didn’t know that Ian wasn’t supposed to be in The Host. I love Ian! :D Thanks for the info! :)

    on June 30th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
  305. I AM SO JEALOUS. She is such an amazing person and I admire her so much. And I LOVE THE OFFICE! That’s so funny about the Jim and Pam thing. I want to meet Stephenie Meyer!!

    on June 30th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
  306. I have read all of Stepenie Meyer’s books and love them. I think she is an amazing writing, very talented, and is a kind warm person. I have met her at one of her book singings where a friend of mine and I asked her a very personal question about Edward. Boxers or Briefs? She was very kind and sweet and I find it no wonder why many find her so influential. She is an amazing writer and person.

    on June 30th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
  307. I loved how she allowed the people with children to go first. :)
I didn’t know that Stephanie was listed as of the most influential people, although it sort of fits into all the hype going on about her books these days.

    on June 30th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
  308. You are sooo lucky! I love how she is such a nice and careing person. Her writing is amazing and, this site and all others like it are proof of that!

    on June 30th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
  309. LUCKY!!! I wish I could meet Stephanie! YES! SHE LIKES THE OFFICE!!! Amazazing! We are pretty much twins! LOL! I want to meet her someday before I die! Thanks for posting this!

    on June 30th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
  310. i wasn’t able to attend her signing, but i’m so glad that u were!! (even if i was able to attend, i didn’t have any books for her to sign :’( -) u r so lucky u got the oppurtunity to do this, & i am so grateful u’ve posted all of SM’s thoughts about all the mayhem going on (mayhem is good, mayhem means, more twilight for all us fans!!) thanks sooooo much for posting this!
    urs truly!!

p.s. please count this as on of my entries

    on June 30th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
  311. I wish i could go to one of her book signings!
she’s always so enthralling to listen to in all the interviews i’ve seen her in!
and I think it’s crazy that she doesn’t have any say in the book covers! I like them, but i think it would have been better if she had some influence on them. thanks for posting this!!!

    on June 30th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
  312. I am sooo jealous. I wish I could have gone.

    on June 30th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
  313. I had no idea that she’d only read 10 BOOKS this year! Poor Stephenie, must be hard. But seriously. I envy you–I’d kill to go to one of these. :P I also kind of liked the bit of information about the magazine party–it justs shows what sort of scale she’s on, doesn’t it? She’s very influential, very famous. But she doesn’t let it change who SHE is, which is awesome. :)

    Contest Entry=this post. :D

    on June 30th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
  314. She sound very very down to earth, from what you wrote..! That was pretty awesome that she let everyone with a kid pass first.

“Stephenie hates the cover of New Moon (she doesn’t have any say in book covers) ” ? That pretty weird that she didn’t had control on the cover.. Shouldn’t she has the last word/decision? Eclipse is my favorite cover also :)

It would be CRAZY if she ever come in Montreal (CANADA).. !

    on June 30th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
  315. I, too, share an affection for Robert Downey, Jr. I can understand why she’d miss seeing him. I’m really glad that Ian’s character developed. What I’d like to know more about is the pre-soul lives of the humans. We know Ian is supposed to have the brains and Kyle the looks. Does that mean I. was in nerdy classes and that K. was a jock? When did K. meet Jodi? Did I. have a lot of girlfriends? What kind of jobs did everyone have? I have sooo many questions.

    on June 30th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
  316. I was at a signing here too. Stephenie is incredible. She seems very personable. When we talked she told me to keep writing(I hope to be a novelist) and she joked about the cool new hand muscles that she’s gotten from signing hundreds of books a day. It was the highlight of my . . . if I said year I would sound pathetic. Plus, Breaking Dawn or the movie will most likely take that title.

    on June 30th, 2008 at 8:38 pm
  317. That was so sweet for Stephanie to invite people with small children to be first in line. She really looks out for her fans. She is a very real person and sounds down to earth. I liked how she honored and it felt surreal for her to be on eof the top 100 influential people. Way to go Stephanie we love you!

    on June 30th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
  318. I didn’t know anything about her before this interview so it’s all brand new info for me. Thanks for this. I really like author interviews a lot! And I’m shocked she doesn’t have right of refusal on her book covers. That seems so wrong.

    on June 30th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
  319. *sigh* You’re so lucky…I’d probably faint if I met her.

    on June 30th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
  320. That is so cool how she signed your book!! And about the covers of the book. I didn’t know that she didn’t have a say…

    on June 30th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
  321. I’m so glad that Stephenie decided to write in Ian. He is my favorite character. Like Edward, he such a complex and raw character. I went back and read pg. 200 of the Host and I still can’t pick out the Office reference. Anyway, stephenie sounds like a cool person. It would be awesome to meet her someday, but I wouldn’t know what to say or ask…I have to make a list just in case I guess

    on June 30th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
  322. I went to her Host signing in Lehi, Utah. She was really cool and laid back. I really liked her.

I asked her a question about the music Alice was listening to in the car when she kidnapped Bella in Eclipse. She said it was something like the rhinocero’s or an italian type of music.

when I got up there, I was SO happy I was shaking and in TEARS! and we waited for HOURS just to get books signed! I have them all. I don’t need them, but I got my friend hooked on them and she isn’t very rich, she lost a brother, and has all these bills her family has to pay. I want to win this for her, so she can read them. I feel sort of bad, but I got mine SIGNED, so they dont leave my house.

ANYWAYS… Stephenie was really kick butt! IT was REALLY nice to FINALLY meet my Idol! If I were to have died that day, I would have die’d HAPPY!… but I STILL don’t want to die yet lol!

    on June 30th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
  323. I really wanted to go to her book signing. I was really disappointed when my group decided not to go and I was really planning on it. It was very sad.

    on June 30th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
  324. aww that sucks ur lucky u went i would love to go to her book signings but stephenie nevr comes around here

    on June 30th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
  325. I was one of the women who wore a sash at this event. :) I did a search for Stephenie Meyer pictures and recognized her outfit from the signing that I attended. Wasn’t it great?! I absolutely loved that evening! It was so much fun!

    on August 13th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
  326. i didn’t know if she really had it played out in her mind about the way they looked either though i have seen the actors some jsut don’t fit the scene but she played it out well
