Sounds like a great magazine, if you ever want to "sell" your old copies let me know as I would love to puruse them!

I'm here because I love book blogs. They are miniature windows of the literary world, virtual libraries :) I do like this biblio-blog very much. I just discovered it.
I read Never Let Me Go, and I think it was disappointing only because I just loved Remains of the Day and still think that nothing could ever match it.
As someone else said here I found the characters one dimensional and could never quite care about them, which was astonishing considering that Ishiguro wrote one of my favourite books of all time.

I totally agree with you about What is the What. I wrote a short bit about it <a href="http://readingrantsandraves.blogspot.com/2007/07/harry-potter-no-7-what-is-what.html" rel="nofollow">here</a>. Unfortunately it is in the same post with Harry Potter, No. 7, but you can ignore that. :-).

I really liked Cat's Eye--but I love all things Atwood. I haven't read Never Let Me Go, but I own it and recently read his Remains of the Day (I recommend!). I haven't read Purple Hibiscus, but I recently got Half of a Yellow Sun and have heard great things about both books. Happy reading!

I think Bookmarks will be the first thing I spoil myself with when my (undesired) break from freelance writing is over. I've had it in my Amazon wish list and drooled at it for years. Not that I need more books on my to-read list... (Which includes Never Let Me Go.)

Joy - What is the What is thus far my number one recommendation of the year. Read it!

SmallWorld - Disturbing? Hmm . . .

Jeanette - Mine came two or three days ago. He, he. I do enjoy it.

Charley - I hope you finish What is the What, excellent!

Never Let Me Go was thought-provoking, and I enjoyed Ishiguro's writing, but the characters were all flat to me. I started listening to What Is the What? on CD a while ago, but had to return it to the library, so I look forward to picking it up again and finishing it.

I read Cat's Eye years and years ago. I vividly remember one very disturbing scene, and I remember thinking it was a great book.

I read Never Let Me Go and rated it a 4/5. You can read my thoughts <a href="http://thoughtsofjoyblog.blogspot.com/2006/12/i-author-based-z-reads.html" rel="nofollow">here</a>.

I have What is the What on my TBR list, but if I remember correctly - it was a chunkster and that makes me shy away.
