Help! Do You Have a Favorite Book Light?
I am in need of a good book light. My last three have all been cheap, cheap, cheap and so they’ve broke. I saw the Booklight Lightwedge (in top photo) on Oprah once and looked at it at Barnes and Noble. Has anybody used this one? I think I’d like how much light it gives off but I’m not sure how I feel about it not being hands free. I’d love an opinion before I fork out forty bucks!
.

I had two of the book lights in this bottom photo and both only worked for about two books each. Terrible! I don’t know the brand as I have since thrown then out, but stay away.
What do you think? Do you have a book light that you really like? I want a good book light that won’t break on me. Help!
By the way, is book light one word or two?

ok, i have one from target…cheap one, but gets the job done.
on April 17th, 2008 at 9:08 pmI wouldn’t advise it. It’s like trying to read a book by light of your cellphone. Is a little lamp on the nightstand out of the question?
on April 18th, 2008 at 5:32 amThanks Stella. I’ve been curious about this one but didn’t want to buy it unless I thought it was worth it. Doesn’t sound like it. Sometimes we have the baby in our room with us, so I don’t use a lamp when he is. I enjoy using a book light, just need to find a new one.
on April 18th, 2008 at 7:55 amI have had really good luck with the Mighty Brite at Border’s. I did try the lite wedge and would DEFINITELY warn against it. One of the worst I’ve had simply because of the no-hands-free problem. Also, the wedge is good if you have the exact same size book, but otherwise you have to move it around the page to see all the words! Good luck finding one!
on April 18th, 2008 at 5:03 pmI love my bookwedge and think it gives off great light (it is also made with LEDs so they are efficient and will last a long time). They are more cumbersome than a hands-free light, but I’ve learned to adjust. I’d try and sample one in-store (with a book) first just to see if it is something you could get used to.
I disagree with Stella only because I HAVE read a book by the light of my cellphone (desperate times…), but it certainly does not replace the power of a nightstand lamp.
on April 19th, 2008 at 7:09 pmI’ve used the “Itty Bitty Book Light” - I found it quite good. I ended up giving it to my mother but only because I’m not so much of a book light person.
on April 21st, 2008 at 7:32 amShe really likes it and still uses it, and her eyesight is not all that good.
Let me know what you find that works, as I could use a good one as well
on April 27th, 2008 at 4:56 amI use the one linked below. I’ve used it mostly on late night car trips. It works fairly well once you get it situated in a good spot. I love the flexible neck, it’s bright enough, and it lasts FOREVER on one AAA battery.
