I read a review of this book one week and saw that she was to be at the Louisiana State Book Fair. I met Immaculee Ilibagiza. I was absolutely drawn to her in the middle of the book fair. She is one of those people that when you are around her, you know you are in the presence of someone very special. I obtained the book "Left to Tell" and had her sign it for me. I had never been drawn to this type of book before, but after meeting her, I had to read it. I couldn't put it down. It was the most beautiful expression of living a true Christian life in the face of unbelievable adversity that I had ever read. She is truly a special person and anyone who reads this book is blessed.

I came across the same comparison that you did when reading the book, as it also reminded me of the memoir Eat, Pray, Love. I wouldn't choose one over the other, though. They were two different women, leading 2 different lives. I learned from both of the books- and narrative/writing style wise I enjoyed EPL much better. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that I'm not reading Ilibagiza's memoir in her original language (she had someone help her write the English book) but I do wish the narrative was a bit more engaging. I still regarded her story highly, and am looking forward to meeting her in person next month in NYC!

I am a high school English teacher and never have time to read for ME (I also have a 2 year old and an 8 month old). Do you have any suggestions on some great books for ME that I could possibly teach as well?

Thanks so much!

[...] A New Book Had a family dinner celebrated my dear mother in law’s birthday last night and had a conversation with one of my niece’s about the latest books we’ve She highly recommended the following book saying that it was the book that probably affected her the most especially in the area of her faith. I am sure it will be a difficult read but I do look forward to it. The link is to a review from a fellow blogger. http://blog.mawbooks.com/2008/03/12/left-to-tell-discovering-god-amidst-the-rwandan-holocaust/ [...]

Erin - I would love to hear her speak as well!

Sindi Khumalo - I echo your words! Completely agree! It happened so fast but still the world stood by and did nothing. So sad.

Porter - Thank you so much for the information! I and my readers appreciate it.

Mr. Velo De. C. Nurse - I'm sure if Immaculee read your kind words, she would indeed be touched. Thanks.

I saw part of your speech to the church and those who were gathered in Nassau, I Thought you did a great job and may you be blessed as you continue to tell your story and may you help others to be strong, Continue spreading the news and may God richly bless you:
