Oprah Announces New Book Club Selection
Oprah announced her new book club selection today, Wednesday, January 30th. Drum roll . . . A New Earth: Awaking to Your Life’s Purpose by Eckhart Tolle, author of The Power of Now and Stillness Speaks. As I know nothing about this book, I went to Amazon for a book description and this is what I found:
.
Building on the astonishing success of The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle presents readers with an honest look at the current state of humanity: He implores us to see and accept that this state, which is based on an erroneous identification with the egoic mind, is one of dangerous insanity.
Tolle tells us there is good news, however. There is an alternative to this potentially dire situation. Humanity now, perhaps more than in any previous time, has an opportunity to create a new, saner, more loving world. This will involve a radical inner leap from the current egoic consciousness to an entirely new one.
In illuminating the nature of this shift in consciousness, Tolle describes in detail how our current ego-based state of consciousness operates. Then gently, and in very practical terms, he leads us into this new consciousness. We will come to experience who we truly are—which is something infinitely greater than anything we currently think we are—and learn to live and breathe freely.

This is a first for Oprah. She has never chosen a spiritual/self-help book before. This is going to be interesting.
But wait! There’s more. For the first time, Oprah is offering a 10 week online course taught by Oprah and Echkart every Monday night covering a chapter a week starting March 3rd. There’s even a workbook! I’m sure that this is going to wildly popular. I’m curious, so I already reserved my spot. I’ll keep you updated on how it goes. Visit Oprah’s website if you’d like to register.
I haven’t been able to keep up with Oprah’s picks since Night by Elie Weisel and I was hoping for a nice piece of fiction. She’s going in a different direction throwing in a new genre. I suspect that people will love it or hate it. I’m all for improving my life though, so I’ll definitely check this one out.
You may view all of Oprah’s Book Club selections on my website here.
Hey you! Yes. You! I've noticed that you've stopped by to visit a few times! But I don't know who you are. Why don't you take a moment and introduce yourself. Don't be scared. I try not to bite. I know you're a lurker but I'd love to hear your thoughts about what's been bringing you here. And if you haven't done so already, don't forget to never miss a post by subscribing to my feed or receiving updates by email. Thanks for visiting!

How did you like this one? I have heard great things about it. My husband actually wants to read it more than I do. His barber keeps talking about how great it is.
How was the online course? I am a participant on the B & N First Look program and it can be a bit overwhelming keeping up with all of the posts. I’m off to try to locate your review.
on April 26th, 2008 at 6:32 pmErin – I actually gave up on this one. After three weeks I still hadn’t made it past chapter one. I just couldn’t get into it and nothing really made sense to me. I guess I never had one of those ah-ha moments. Since I gave up the book (glad I borrowed it from the library and didn’t buy it), I also gave up on the class. To much other stuff to do.
