Christmas Recipes
It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve posted. It’s just that time of year and I’ve been busy getting ready for Christmas. Sound familiar? We have out of state family coming to town and in addition to getting the shopping done, I have yet to pick up the house or pick up any groceries. I have though, managed to make yummy, homemade butter toffee and a couple loaves of banana bread, which I thought I would share with you (the recipe, not the food, sorry).
Banana Bread
2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
6 bananas
4 eggs
3 T sour milk (milk with a little vinegar)
capful of lemon extract
3 tsp baking powder
4 cups flour
Mix sugar, shortening, salt, and baking soda. Smash bananas and add to sugar mixture. Add eggs, milk, lemon extract, and baking powder and mix well. Add flour and mix well. Put in greased loaf pans. Bake 1 hour for 350 degrees or longer until center is done with toothpick. Makes two large loaves (because why would you only make one?!) or several small loaves.
Butter Toffee
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
5 T water
8 oz. semi dark chocolate (or any chocolate you want)
1/2 cup chopped nuts ( I like almonds)
Both of these recipes have been in my family and enjoyed by many. We recently compiled a family cookbook and the banana bread was submitted four times. Yummy!!!
